Economy News - Baghdad

The Central Bank expected on Wednesday that the difference between the official and parallel exchange rates will decrease during the coming period, while indicating that a decision on the possibility of printing a 20,<> dinar denomination is imminent.

The Assistant Director General of the Investment Department in the bank, Muhammad Munir, said that "the packages and procedures of the Central Bank of Iraq contributed to limiting the continuous rise in the dollar exchange rate," expecting "a decrease in the difference between the official and parallel exchange rates in the coming period through the packages: the first, second and third of the Central Bank, as well as the government's continuous support."

"The central bank is in continuous updating of all procedures, and every step that is launched is reviewed and measured the extent of its response and impact on the market and what are its pros and cons, if any," Mounir said, according to the official news agency.

Regarding the printing of new currency denominations, Mounir said that "the Central Bank is amending and updating currency notes in response to market demands and developments and reducing counterfeiting," noting that "the Department of Issuance and Treasury is working to study the possibility of printing a 20,<> dinar banknote, and in the coming days will take the decision to print it or not to print it."

Why would they print 20K dinar if they're planning to release new lower denoms and RV the iqd ( unless they have other back up plans? )? It's wasting money and printing a new currency costs a fortune.

Well why print it when you have a 25 Dinar coin ? 50 and 100

I wouldn't lose sleep or time dwelling on the 20k note. What's unique about this investment is that Iraq's currency in regards to adding value is what's going to aid them in getting back to the powerhouse they use to be. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe there isnt any plans to revalue and leave it right where it is. Maybe they need to print more because everyone is holding into the bills already printed and they need more bills to sell for the American dollar.

Yep. That is the job of the pumpers and dinar salesmen to spread rumors, like a wild fire to increase their profit from selling and buying iraq dinar.
