 Baghdad Today-Baghdad

The researcher in economic and financial affairs, Nabil Jabbar Al-Tamimi, revealed on Sunday the existence of a government trend aimed at ending the phenomenon of "dollarization", that is, reducing the circulation of the dollar in the hands of citizens.

Al-Tamimi told "Baghdad Today" that "the Iraqi government is currently working to end the phenomenon of dollarization in the local market, meaning it is working to end any dealing in dollars and abbreviation only to deal in Iraqi dinars, and this is part of the solution to the dollar crisis that the country has been witnessing for months."

He added that "this trend is very important in order to strengthen the Iraqi economy, and it prevents any financial collapse in Iraq as it depends on the local dinar," considering that "any country that depends on a currency other than its official currency is threatened with collapse, as happened with Lebanon currently, and this government trend towards ending the phenomenon of "dollarization", a very important step. "

According to citizens who spoke to "Baghdad Today", most transfer companies now refuse to hand over citizens who receive remittances in dollars, and deliver their remittances in Iraqi dinars and at the official exchange rate.

Removing the dollar from use in Iraq will drive demand for Dinar. Iraq could then justify letting the Dinar float in open international market and continue to increase in value against world currencies.
