Baghdad Today - Baghdad

MP for the Coordination Framework Ahmed Taha announced on Friday that the Iraqi negotiation with the Federal Bank in the ongoing meetings in Turkey could lead to tightening procedures for selling dollars inside the currency auction to ensure that it is not smuggled abroad.

Taha told Baghdad Today, "The government wants to have a strictness in the currency auction in order to stop corruption in it on the one hand, in addition to ensuring the withdrawal of funds equivalent to the volume of goods and their real prices on the other hand."

He added that "militancy should not be a tool to influence the Iraqi street and should not contribute to the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar, because the government aspires to lower the exchange rate of the dollar in the Iraqi markets."

Taha pointed out that "Iraq is still new to the issue of electronic currency auction, and it is preferable not to go through the procedures in a complicated manner so as not to contribute to the instability of the market in terms of buying and selling the dollar."

Earlier, informed sources revealed information related to the mission of the Iraqi government delegation, which is preparing to head to Washington in the coming days, headed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf said in a press statement followed by (Baghdad Today), that "the delegation will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and the membership of financial and banking officials."

Al-Sahhaf added that "the talks will be based on the strategic framework agreement, and strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially with regard to the issue of the rise in the dollar exchange rate and the mechanisms of coordination and cooperation in this aspect, and in a way that reflects the response of the Iraqi government in supporting its economic and financial vision, in order to achieve a response that preserves public money and helps citizens," and added that "meetings and visits of diplomatic delegations between the two sides are continuing, because the relationship is strategic and requires joint and permanent cooperation."
