ERBIL — Another high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will visit the Iraqi capital in the near future to follow up on recent talks on outstanding problems between the two, including budgetary issues and oil sales, according to KRG spokesperson.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and other federal officials in Baghdad in January to negotiate a durable solution to long-running disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.

The KRG subsequently characterized the talks as positive, and expressed optimism about reaching an appropriate solution. However, the Iraqi federal court in late January ruled KRG's oil sales unconstitutional, upsetting Erbil and threatening the constitutional rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region.

Erbil has consistently been expressing goodwill to reconcile differences, and resolve outstanding problems with Baghdad based on the constitution, and in a way that serves the interests of both sides. This KRG cabinet aims to establish a stable and predictable relationship with Baghdad, and deepen cooperation amid a nationwide inflation caused primarily by a rapidly falling currency.
