Hochstein was born on January 4, 1973. He is an "Israeli" of Jewish-American immigrant parents. He served in the army of the "Israeli" occupation entity, played roles for the entity, and was an advisor to the former occupation prime minister, Shimon Peres.

He was appointed Acting Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State (2014-2016), and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Affairs (2011-2014). He served in the US Congress and testified before congressional committees. He worked in the administration of Barack Obama, under the administration of Secretary of State Clinton and John Kerry.

He was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of State 2011 and Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs. In 2015, Obama nominated him to be Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, but the Senate did not take any action on this nomination.

While at the State Department, Hochstein served as a close advisor to Vice President Joe Biden and served in the administration from 2011 to 2017. He is a former member of the oil and gas company's oversight board, from which he resigned in 2020. On August 10, 2021, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken announced That he appointed Hochstein as a senior adviser on energy security, to supervise and monitor the implementation of the Nordstream 2 project to supply Russian gas to Germany.

As an aide to Representative Sam Guddinson during his time on Capitol Hill, Hawkstein traveled to Iraq and participated in US diplomatic discussions of a possible lifting of US economic sanctions in exchange for the possible settlement of several thousand Palestinian refugees in central Iraq. Hochstein argued that economic sanctions should be maintained while recognizing the need to "humanize" them.

Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs

Hochstein's energy diplomacy efforts in the Middle East have been crucial. Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pointed to Hochstein's work as helping provide a catalyst for a renewed relationship between Israel and Turkey. [This came after his work to revive efforts to settle the dispute between Lebanon and the occupying entity regarding the maritime borders.

At the end of his visit, Hochstein made statements confirming that his visit was to discuss postponing gas exploration in Lebanon. In 2014, Hochstein helped "pave the way" for a $500 million natural gas agreement between Israel and Jordan [he visited Jordan 14 times, was accompanied by former Israeli President Shimon Peres, and was a 'key broker' for the gas export deal. This agreement concluded an effort that Secretary of State Clinton began in 2011.

In response to the accusation by Russian officials that the Turkish government was buying oil illegally from the terrorist organization ISIS, Hochstein rejected these accusations, saying: “I do not think that there is significant smuggling between the areas controlled by the organization and Turkey for oil in large volumes.

In 2022, three current and former US officials said two of President Biden's top advisers are secretly visiting Saudi Arabia for talks about a possible arrangement between Saudi Arabia, Israel and Egypt, an agreement to increase oil production and bilateral relations between Washington and Riyadh.

Al-Sudani's government faces a difficult equation: keeping the Americans or responding to the will of the resistance fighters by expelling them

January 17, 2023

Baghdad / Obelisk: After the French News Agency reported that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, showed keenness to please the friendliness towards the United States, which continues to intensify its tone against Iran, during an interview published by the Wall Street Journal, last Sunday, the Iraqi political community interacted with the statement. , which raised criticism of the political forces and factions that want to remove the US and foreign forces from Iraq completely, and there were many opinions between those who support the Sudanese pragmatism in dealing with the American presence as a fait accompli and an Iraqi need, and those who see the Sudanese position as submission to the American will.

Al-Sudani told the newspaper that he wants to send a high-level delegation to Washington soon, perhaps as a prelude to a meeting between him and President Joe Biden.

Al-Sudani considered that his country is still at the present time “in need of foreign forces” present in it, most of which are American, according to what came in an interview published Sunday by the Wall Street Journal.

Al-Sudani's statement comes at a time when calls are being renewed to activate Parliament's decision to expel US forces from the country.

Munqith Dagher, a member of the Gallup International Board of Directors, asked: If the framework strengthened approval of the American military presence, why did you accuse others of being agents, threaten armed struggle, and strike missiles?

Writer Salim al-Hassani was surprised by the decision of the government and political leaders to keep the forces of the American friends.

The leader of the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades, Abbas al-Zaidi, revealed the resistance's dissatisfaction with the actions of the government of Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani had stressed the importance of continuing joint work, especially in the field of advising and training the Iraqi forces, which are fighting the confrontation against terrorism effectively and professionally.

Al-Zaidi told Al-Masalla: We reject the intervention of the US embassy in the Iraqi issue, warning against complete submission to the occupation, as there is no specific ceiling for the goals and projects of the aggressive occupation in Iraq or the region across Iraq.

Iyad al-Amara, a researcher on Iraqi political and security affairs, believes that the practices of the US forces are provocative, and that all Iraqis welcome any action targeting the occupation and strongly support it.

A member of the House of Representatives, Jassim Al-Moussawi, directed a request to Parliament regarding the presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil, and while he confirmed that the US forces had caused major violations to the country, he considered Washington's allegations of providing aid to Iraq as "false."

Sources close to the coordination framework believe that the current government is aware of the impact of the escalation on the internal political and economic situation, and that it does not want the relationship with Washington to deteriorate.

And the leader in the framework, Mahmoud Al-Hayani, considered the talk about the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq unreal, and just a media talk.

Writer Ahmed Abdel-Sada says on Twitter: We can see a contradiction between the slogan raised and the practical application, although this contradiction falls within the political hypocrisy, but not to the extent that you base your political project and your popular legitimacy on the slogan of removing the American forces from Iraq and avenging the blood of the leaders of victory, then suddenly abandoning it. This slogan when you come to power.

Ali al-Ghanmi, a member of the political bureau in the Euphrates Movement, which is led by Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani, said that some political parties - he did not name them - have reservations about the relationship with Washington because of the airport incident.

The political affairs expert, Karrar al-Musawi, monitors an Iraqi consensus on the American military presence, while the researcher on Iraqi affairs,
Mujahid al-Taei, believes that al-Sudani is trying to break the impression that his government is subject to the influence of factions close to Iran, through his calm approach to issues that those forces consider a priority, such as the presence file. US military in Iraq. Al-Sudani benefited here from the fact that these forces are still unwilling to thwart his government.

Energy is present between Al-Sudani and McGurk.. Will GE and Siemens share the 11-giga contract?

Economy / Special Files |Yesterday, 23:29 |

Baghdad today-Baghdad

The meeting of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani with the Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, the US envoy Brett McGurk, who was accompanied by a delegation of energy specialists, led to questions about whether the meeting and what will follow from the visit of an Iraqi delegation to Washington soon, is related to the conclusion of new energy contracts with The American General Electric Company, especially after signing a memorandum of understanding with Germany's Siemens.

The statement of Al-Sudani's office, as well as the US embassy, made it clear that the meeting between Al-Sudani and McGurk was attended by Amos Hochstein, the US Special Coordinator for Infrastructure and Energy Security Affairs, in addition to the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romanovsky.

The presence of the American coordinator for energy security, in the meeting, as well as the preparations for the visit of an Iraqi delegation to Washington may be led by the Sudanese, and the coming of all these data days after the visit of the Sudanese to the German capital and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the German Siemens, leads to questions about whether the Iraqi government It will sign a contract with the American General Electric Company, to complete the "balance" series that Iraq has been in force for years, by distributing the energy sector between the American and German companies alike.

The American General Electric Company has controlled a large part of the Iraqi energy sector and its contracts since 2011, according to its official website, which I viewed (Baghdad Today), which indicated that the last contracts it obtained in 2016 were worth $1.4 billion, and it aims to improve the energy sector in Iraq, which is still in great decline.

Al-Sudani had signed last week, during his visit to the German capital, Berlin, a memorandum of understanding with the German company Siemens to improve and develop the energy sector in Iraq.

Perhaps strangely enough, the memorandum of understanding between Siemens and Iraq dates back to 2018, and it was signed in 2019, adding 11 gigawatts of energy. However, the Ministry of Electricity revealed a few days ago that the memorandum of understanding with Siemens will add 6 gigawatts, and thus it is likely that the 5 gigawatts The other watts may be granted to the American General Electric, as a continuation of the "balance" work that Iraq has been doing for years.

Behind the scenes of McGurk's visit to Iraq: a warning to Baghdad and concern from the region

Baghdad - people

Brett McGurk, White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, was keen during his meetings in Iraq to confirm his country's commitment to supporting the federal government and preserving the strategic framework agreement. He also showed keenness to help the Kurdistan region, expressing American concern about the political differences in the region , which affects a number of projects sponsored by Washington, including efforts to unify the Peshmerga, according to the London-based Al-Arab.

The newspaper stated in a report, followed by “NAS” (January 18, 2023): “The visit of Brett McGurk, White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, to Iraq carried messages of reassurance to the federal government, and the visit also reflected an American preoccupation with the ongoing conflict in the region.” Kurdistan, which threatens to return to the two-administration system, and the ongoing differences between the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union may affect efforts to unify the Peshmerga, which represents one of the American concerns that McGurk expressed during his meeting with Barzani.

Following is the text of the report:

Observers mentioned to the report that McGurk's visit aims to renew US support for Baghdad, in light of Iraqi concern about this issue, especially after a series of measures imposed by the US Federal Bank on Iraq with regard to money transfers in dollars, which caused the value of the Iraqi dinar to decline against the dollar to the lowest level. its levels.

The American move was considered a message of pressure on the Iraqi government, warning it against taking any steps pushed by some pro-Iranian forces, especially in relation to the expulsion of the American forces, according to the London newspaper.

The White House coordinator for Middle East and North Africa affairs, during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, affirmed his country's support for the success of the federal government and providing advice to the army.

A statement by the media office of the Iraqi prime minister said, "Al-Sudani received the White House coordinator for Middle East and North Africa affairs, an envoy from US President Joe Biden," without specifying the date of his arrival and the duration of his visit.

The statement said that the meeting discussed "the overall relations between Iraq and the United States, and ways to strengthen and develop them at various levels and fields, in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi and American peoples."

According to the statement, McGurk affirmed his country's support for the success of the Iraqi government and "the United States continues to provide advice to Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS."

McGurk said that the US administration "renews its commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement, supporting the Iraqi government's reforms in the field of energy and infrastructure, and confronting climate change."

The relations of Baghdad and Washington are governed by the provisions of the strategic framework agreement signed in 2008, which regulated the nature of relations between the two countries, and the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq by the end of 2011, while maintaining a number of them within advisory functions.

The American forces returned to Iraq in 2014 as part of the international coalition against ISIS, which in 2013 invaded large parts of the country.

After announcing the end of the war on ISIS, the pro-Tehran forces returned to pressure towards the departure of the American forces, and the scope of pressure in this direction expanded following the assassination of the Iranian Quds Force commander, General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in an American air strike in January of the year 2020.

After the assassination, a decision was issued by the Iraqi parliament demanding the withdrawal of all foreign forces, so that the implementation of the decision would proceed in the last custody of former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, where the combat forces were withdrawn while maintaining a number of elements within advisory missions.

The pro-Iranian forces rejected the matter, calling for a complete end to the US military presence. And with the assumption of power by the Sudanese government in Iraq last October, the demands in this file were renewed.

In a situation that surprised observers, Al-Sudani stated, during a visit he made last week to Germany, that his country needs American forces to fight terrorism, describing them as friendly.

The opinions of observers were divided, according to the London newspaper, between those who believe that this position of the Prime Minister is a departure and rebellion from the coordination framework that constitutes the political umbrella of the government, and those who consider that there is a prior agreement between the two parties regarding the matter, in light of the awareness of both of what could lead to any escalation with Washington. Especially after the dollar crisis.

They point out that the coordination framework is in need of US support, even if it refuses to acknowledge that, especially since its control over political power remains fragile in light of a difficult economic and social situation, and the presence of opponents lurking around it at home, led by the Sadrist movement.

During his meeting with McGurk, Al-Sudani affirmed, "The government's tendency to open horizons of cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries, in a way that secures the interests of the Iraqi people," referring to the ability of the security forces in Iraq "to confront terrorism and establish the stability achieved thanks to the sacrifices."

According to the statement of Al-Sudani's office, McGurk "conveyed his country's welcome to the outcomes of the Baghdad Conference 2, and efforts to develop joint infrastructure projects between Iraq and its surroundings."

McGurk also announced that the US administration welcomed the upcoming visit of Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to Washington "to hold meetings of the Supreme Coordinating Committee of the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two countries."

Al-Sudani and McGurk's meeting was attended by the Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security, Amos Hochstein, and the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski.

The US official's ongoing tour of Iraq was not limited to visiting Baghdad, but also included Erbil, where on Tuesday he held meetings with Kurdish officials and leaders, led by the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani.

McGurk's visit to Erbil showed a deep American concern about the ongoing differences between the two main Kurdish parties and their repercussions on the stability of the autonomous region in northern Iraq.

The relationship between the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union led by Pavel Talabani is witnessing escalating tension, which foreign interventions have so far failed to contain, which raises concern about the possibility of the return of the two-administration system.

The differences between the two parties revolve around governance in the region and how to manage financial revenues, which come mainly from oil and gas, and border crossings. During his meeting with the US envoy, Barzani stressed the need to proceed with holding legislative elections in the Kurdistan region during this year.

Barzani's position reflects his strictness towards the Patriotic Union, which rejects any legislative elections in the region without making amendments to the electoral system and the electoral body.

A statement issued by Barzani's headquarters stated that the meeting with McGurk discussed the political situation in Iraq and the relations between the region and Baghdad, and the need to resolve differences and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad was emphasized, and the importance of the role of Iraq and the Kurdistan region in overcoming obstacles that threaten global energy security.

With regard to the situation inside the Kurdistan region, Barzani stressed, according to the statement, that fair and transparent elections must be held in the region during this year, and that no excuse for postponing them will be accepted, expressing his hope that the meeting and coordination between the political parties will continue in order to overcome the challenges and support the government. Territory. Regarding the reforms of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party reiterated his support for the continuation of these reforms.

In November 2018, the United States, Britain and Germany presented a project to comprehensively reform the Peshmerga. The project aims to unify and institutionalize the forces, in addition to restructuring the ministry and making it a unified command. The Peshmerga have been receiving training from advisers from the international coalition led by Washington since 2014.

Observers believe that the ongoing differences between the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union would affect efforts to unify the Peshmerga, which represents one of the American concerns that McGurk expressed during his meeting with Barzani.

Brett McGurk, the US National Security Council's co-ordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, arrived in Baghdad on Monday on an official visit to strengthen relations with Iraq.

Mr McGurk, who was joined by Special Presidential Co-ordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security Amos Hochstein, met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani.

“The meeting focused on discussing the overall relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to strengthen and develop them at various levels and fields to serve the interests of the Iraqi and American peoples,” said a statement issued by Mr Al Sudani's office.

Mr Al Sudani “highlighted the ability of our security forces to encounter terrorism and sustain the stability achieved thanks to the great sacrifices made in the land of Iraq,” it added.

For its part, the US delegation confirmed President Joe Biden’s “commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement with special emphasis on co-ordination and programmes to support the government of Iraq’s reforms in the areas of energy, infrastructure, and climate to benefit the Iraqi people,” the US embassy in Baghdad said.

Mr McGurk affirmed the “ongoing US commitment to advise, enable, and assist Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS, and to ensuring that ISIS can never again regenerate in Iraq and Syria”.

This week, Mr Al Sudani said his country still needs US troops to maintain security.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said the “elimination of ISIS needs some more time”, when asked about the US troop presence, which has been authorised by the Iraqi government to train the Iraqi army since 2014.

There are about 2,500 US soldiers now in Iraq, down from more than 5,000 during the war against ISIS between 2014 and 2018.

The small contingent was deployed to Iraq following a withdrawal of US forces in 2011 after eight years of occupation upon request from the Iraqi government.

At its peak, the force numbered 170,000 in 2007, when Iraq was beset with sectarian violence and fighting between international coalition forces and insurgents.

In mid-2014, ISIS overran large parts of Iraq and Syria, declaring a “caliphate” in occupied territory.

Backed by a US-led international coalition, Iraq announced victory against ISIS in late 2017 after three years of gruelling fighting that left many of the occupied cities in ruins.

However, the terrorist group's cells continue to mount hit-and-run attacks, particularly in vast desert regions of northern and western Iraq near the border with Syria.

The White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, expressed support for the Iraqi government to make needed reforms in energy, infrastructure, and climate and urged Kurdish ruling parties in the Iraqi Kurdistan region to defuse their differences.

McGurk, who arrived in Iraq late on Monday, has met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, the president of the Kurdistan region Nechirvan Barzani, as well as senior officials from the two main Kurdish ruling parties in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

According to a statement by the Iraqi government, Sudani and McGurk discussed Iraq-US relations and ways to develop them, as well as the thorny issue of the ongoing existence of the United States and other coalition forces in Iraq.

McGurk's visit to Baghdad coincided with a similar visit by Esmail Qaani, the commander of Quds Force - a division within Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) primarily responsible for extraterritorial military operations.

"The Prime Minister affirmed the government's determination to enhance cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries that ensure the interests of the Iraqi people. His Excellency also highlighted the ability of our security forces to encounter terrorism and sustain the stability achieved thanks to the great sacrifices made in the land of Iraq," reads the statement by the Iraqi government.

"Mr McGurk affirmed his country's support to ensure the success of the Iraqi government and continue to provide advisory assistance to the Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS, reiterating the US administration's commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement and supporting the Iraqi government's reforms in the energy sector, infrastructure development, and combating climate change," it added.

The US embassy in Baghdad, in a statement, wrote, "In the meeting, the US delegation confirmed President Biden's commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement with special emphasis on coordination and programs to support the Government of Iraq's reforms in the areas of energy, infrastructure, and climate to benefit the Iraqi people. Mr McGurk affirmed the ongoing US commitment to advise, enable, and assist Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS and to ensure that ISIS can never again regenerate in Iraq and Syria."

Sudani's words are seen as different from his previous statements when he defended the open-ended presence of US and other foreign troops in his country in an interview published Sunday.

"We think that we need the foreign forces," Sudani told The Wall Street Journal in his first US interview since taking office.

Sudani was elected Iraq's prime minister in October and was backed by the "Coalition for the Administration of the State," which includes the Coordination Framework, an alliance of powerful pro-Iran Shia factions with 138 out of 329 seats in parliament. The Coalition includes the main Sunni and Kurdish parties.

Heads of the Coordination Framework (CF), mainly former Iraqi PM and head of State of Law Coalition Nouri al-Maliki, recently had different views with Sudani on the issue of the existence of US forces in Iraq. Sudani vowed to continue to hold dialogue with the coalition forces to ensure their presence does not negatively impact Iraq's sovereignty and integrity.

A senior member in the CF, speaking on condition of anonymity, told al-Araby al-JadeedThe New Arab's Arabic-language sister publication, that Qaani met with the heads of the CF and Shia armed factions. Another member in the CF, also speaking on the condition of remaining unnamed, also raised concerns that following Qaani's visit pro-Iran Shia armed groups might resume attacks on US and coalition bases across the country.

Karim Shukur, an Iraqi lawmaker and member of the security and defence committee in the Iraqi parliament, told TNA during a brief phone interview that the existence of the US and coalition forces in Iraq was necessary because the Iraqi security forces still face challenges from the Islamic State militants.

"According to Iraq's constitution, only the Iraqi parliament can decide whether foreign forces should remain or leave the country," Shukur stressed.

McGurk, on Tuesday in Erbil gas also met with the president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani, the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, and the deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Qubad Talabani.

The KDP and the PUK mainly run the KRG but now are at odds with how to administrate crucial sectors in the region, particularly the oil and gas sector, on how to share ravenous from the border gates and holding fresh parliamentary elections.

Kurdish political observers, as well as media outlets, reported that McGurk tried to mediate between the two Kurdish parties to defuse their tensions and deal with their issues peacefully.

"The political conditions in Iraq and relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan region were discussed, where the need for resolving the issues between the Kurdistan region and Baghdad, and the key role of Iraq as well as the Kurdistan region in overcoming the obstacles in front of energy at the international level were emphasized during the meeting," Barzani headquarters said in a statement following the meeting with McGurk.

"Another topic of the meeting was the conditions in the Kurdistan region, where president Barzani reiterated that fair and pure parliamentary elections should be held in the Kurdistan region this year and no excuses are acceptable to postpone the elections," it added.

"The latest political developments were discussed. Unification of efforts to better serve the people of KRI was emphasized during a productive meeting," Bafel Talabani tweeted after he met with McGurk.

On Sunday, Masrour Barzani, KRG's prime minister, accused the PUK of trying to obstruct upcoming parliamentary elections, stealing income from the border gates, and being behind the assassination of Hawkar Abdullah Rasoul, known as Hawkar Jaff, a former colonel in the ranks of PUK's Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG), who was killed in the capital city of Erbil on 7 October after a sticky bomb, attached to his vehicle, detonated.

Jaff was supervising the CTG operations in Nineveh and was fired in the summer of 2021 due to an internal issue between cousins Bafel Talabani and Lahur Talabani - then co-leaders of PUK, as Jaff was a close ally to Lahur.

“We said from the beginning that we should have a joint committee, including the participation of third parties, to conduct a thorough investigation, but unfortunately, these demands have not been answered yet. They [PUK] want us to remain silent about the Hawkar assassination. These demands are unacceptable and do not serve our citizens," PM Barzani was quoted as saying by K24.

On Monday, Qubad Talabani and PUK ministers boycotted a weekly session of the KRG council of ministers in Erbil. Furthermore, the party refuted all allegations against it and accused the KDP of depriving Sulaimaniyah and other provinces under the control of PUK of KRG revenues obtained from selling oil in the international markets.

General Ismail Ghaani (Asharq Al-Awsat)

While Brett McGurk, the White House coordinator for Middle East and North Africa affairs, held talks yesterday evening with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, it was reported that the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Qaani, had arrived in the Iraqi capital. While it does not seem strange in terms of the secret visits that Qaani makes to Baghdad from time to time, what is new this time is that Baghdad is taking positions that appear to be at variance with Iranian tendencies.
In terms of the position on the "Gulf 25" championship in Basra, official Iraq did not pay any attention to Iran's objections to naming Gulf Iraqi officials and leaders as "Arab" instead of "Persian" as Iran insists. As for the position on the American presence in Iraq, what the Iraqi Prime Minister spoke about the need for the "friends" to remain represented a provocation to Tehran at a time when McGurk began his public talks with the Iraqi leaders.
The secret diplomacy pursued by Tehran with Iraq, according to an independent Iraqi politician, is no longer "very useful in light of the ongoing transformations in the region and their effects on Iraq or vice versa." The Iraqi politician confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that “Iraqi officials no longer accept the policy of dictates that Iran wants to continue with, including the forces of the coordination framework that bear the responsibility of the current government,” noting that “Iran, during the Shiite-Shiite crisis that led to Shiite fighting – A Shiite inside the Green Zone, its position was not satisfactory to him from many Shiite leaders, as it seemed that they wanted to weaken the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, even if that was at the expense of the blood of the Shiites. form the government.”
During his meeting with McGurk, the Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that the Iraqi security forces are capable of confronting terrorism and establishing the achieved stability. Al-Sudani's media office said in a statement, "The meeting witnessed discussion of the overall relations between Iraq and the United States, and ways to strengthen and develop them at various levels and fields, in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi and American peoples." The Prime Minister affirmed, according to the statement, "the government's intention to open horizons of cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries, in a way that secures the interests of the Iraqi people."
For his part, according to the statement, McGurk affirmed "his country's support for the success of the current government, and the continuation of the United States to provide advice to the Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS," reiterating "the US administration's commitment to the strategic framework agreement, and support for the Iraqi government's reforms in the field of energy and infrastructure and confronting climate change." ». The statement added, "McGurk conveyed his country's welcome to the outcomes of the (Baghdad 2) conference and efforts to develop joint infrastructure projects between Iraq and its surroundings, and its welcome to the upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to Washington to hold meetings of the Supreme Coordinating Committee of the strategic framework agreement between the two countries."
In conjunction with the announced visit by the US envoy to Iraq, local Iraqi media quoted sources it described as informed, the arrival of the Iranian general Qaani to Baghdad without disclosing the purpose of the visit or the meetings that he conducted or will be conducted by the Iranian official.
Returning to the independent Iraqi politician, “at a time when the United States of America wants to confirm its support for Iraq within the framework of the strategic framework agreement signed between the two countries in 2009, which is among what is included in the American support in the fields of energy, which are the same areas that the Sudanese discussed with the German side and were crowned.” By signing the memorandum of understanding with (Siemens), which is one of the companies that Iraq had previously signed memorandums of understanding with, just as it signed memorandums of understanding with the American (General Electric), the political differences prevented those memorandums from being converted into applicable agreements.
While the Iraqi politician warned of the consequences of preventing this time the memoranda of understanding with Siemens from being converted into binding agreements, the general atmosphere now prevailing in Iraq “rises to the level of conspiracy theory in terms of the fact that the Americans are the ones who will prevent this because they want (General Electric) to It handles the file of electricity reform in Iraq, while there are Iraqi parties that do not want any prime minister to succeed in deciphering the electricity puzzle and want to keep Iraq as a market for selling cheap goods, in addition to keeping it in need of Iranian gas.
Regarding the coincidence between McGurk's and Qaani's visit, the Iraqi politician says, "Tehran has internal problems that are no longer hidden from anyone, in addition to the halting of talks on the nuclear file, and now it has an added problem with Iraq through what the (Basra Gulf) heroism spurred of Iraqi feelings of great importance." An Arab breath, Tehran and some of its friends were the first to be surprised by it, which means that everything Iran has tried to establish from isolation and even hatred between Iraq and its Arab surroundings has completely failed.
