The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) revealed on Tuesday a movement to activate the Article 140 Committee, while indicating a will to go towards legislating the oil and gas law.  

  

  

Majid Shankali, a member of the party in the Iraqi parliament, said in an interview with his colleague Adnan Al-Taie, who was followed by "NAS", (January 24, 2023), that "everyone is serious about solving the problems between Baghdad and Erbil, and there is a serious will and a real intention to go towards legislating the oil and gas law, and the Article 140 Committee will be activated in some areas, but the issue needs more than that, as it needs a census and then go to a referendum."  

  

"All political leaders in the State Administration Alliance are under public pressure to move Iraq forward," he said.  

  

Regarding the region's share of the budget, Shankali pointed out that "there are estimates at the Ministry of Planning and Trade that say that the Kurdistan region's percentage of the budget is 14%, and we demand 17%, and we may reach a middle state by negotiation because it is not a sacred text."  

  

"The party and the Yekti are destined for each other, and they must reach solutions; if they cannot resolve their differences now, they must go to Baghdad together," he said.
