6ly410
Parliamentary Oil: Oil and Gas Law Faces Political Difficulties Time : 2023/01/08 19:31:52 Parliamentary Oil: Oil and Gas Law Faces Political Difficulties - Al-Furat News (alforatnews.iq) {Politics:Euphrates News} The oil and gas bill law is facing serious difficulties to legislate in the House of Representatives because it contains a political aspect. According to specialists A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Dergham al-Maliki told Al-Furat News that: "The oil and gas law is facing difficulties because it contains a political side," stressing "seeking to create the appropriate climate to solve some of the accumulated problems to proceed with the legislation of the law." He added, "What hinders the legislation is not limited to the political side, but also to the financial side, and some of the accumulated amounts and the Sitsi side are deduced from this political side." Al-Maliki stressed "the continuation of work to resolve these problems and put them on the table of parliament for the purpose of discussion." For his part, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Surji, announced that there are no positive results in resolving the oil and gas law file. A senior parliamentary source also ruled out the adoption of the oil and gas law, indicating that the Iraqi state since its establishment has not worked according to such a law. The dispute between Baghdad and Erbil over the oil file remains unresolved for more than two decades. Iraq's oil and gas law, which has been awaiting legislation in parliament since 2005, stipulates that responsibility for the management of the country's oil fields should be vested in a national oil company, overseen by a specialized federal council. The Kurdistan Petroleum Law, which was repealed by a decision of the Federal Supreme Court, indicates that the KRG's Ministry of Oil or its authorized authority is responsible for "regulating and supervising oil operations, as well as all activities related to them, including oil marketing, as well as negotiating and concluding agreements and implementing all licenses, including oil contracts concluded by the KRG.
