Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayyan Abdul Ghani on Sunday stressed the ministry's keenness to support and support the work of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company and resume its activity in the maritime transport of crude oil and not to limit it to the transport of limited quantities of oil products, while indicating that Iraq will inaugurate a new oil tanker early next year.

Abdul Ghani said in a statement received by (Alawwal News), that "the ministry is keen to support and support the work of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company and resume its activity in the maritime transport of crude oil and not to limit it to the transport of limited quantities of oil products," stressing "work to restore the vital role of the national carrier in the global energy markets, and to strengthen its role and historical location that it enjoyed when it was patrolling the seas and transporting Iraqi oil in the seventies and eighties of the last century to Europe, Asia and Latin America in reality More than 2 million barrels, this came during his visit to the company's headquarters in Basra province and his meeting with the general manager and employees.

The minister pointed to "the need to resume work to transport Iraqi crude oil by strengthening the company with a fleet of modern tankers and large loads as it was previously in Iraq before it was destroyed by absurd wars," pointing out that "the ministry had attempts to restore the work of the company after 2003, but the size of the challenges and obstacles was large and was able to own some tankers for the transport of oil products."

He added that "the ministry provides its great support to the purchase of modern tankers to transport crude oil and seek to rebuild and rehabilitate old tankers, and that the company has a globally accredited tanker fleet, and the management of the company is a choice between going to buy alone or in cooperation with internationally accredited companies," noting that "what interests us is to accelerate the reconstruction of a new fleet to return its activity to the previous and better in transporting oil and its products and upgrading them to the ranks of international companies, in addition to the need to qualify specialized staff in the field of maritime transport working on the fleet."

The statement added that "the minister met with the leadership staff of the company and listened to the proposals that were put forward during the meeting to develop the work of the company, and on the sidelines of the meeting the minister honored 6 naval officers who graduated with distinction from the Arab Naval Academy in Egypt, stressing that the responsibility lies with them to develop their skills and lead the fleet to be built with their colleagues in the company."

He added that "the general manager of the company Ali Qais briefed on the activity of the company, which was founded in 1972, where the company was able to achieve advanced and important steps in the field of work, where it is keen after meeting the minister to develop a plan to increase the number of tankers with various capacities and sizes," noting that "the company had a fleet of more than 24 large tankers destroyed as a result of wars."

"A new oil tanker will be inaugurated early next year to be organized into the current naval fleet," Qais said.
