More than one billion and 200 million dollars in Central Bank auction sales in a week

The Central Bank of Iraq's sales of hard currency to the dollar during the month of April amounted to nearly 4 billion dollars.
A financial source stated that the Central Bank sold during the month of April last in the days when it opened its auction to buy and sell US dollars 3 billion and 980 million and 227 thousand dollars, at a rate of 199 million and 11 thousand and 350 dollars per day, higher than last March, in which the sales rate reached 3 Billions of 803 million and 565 thousand dollars. He added that the increase in the bank's total sales came as a result of its dollar sales exceeding $200 million per day for most days of the month.
Most of these sales went in the form of remittances abroad to finance foreign trade, while the selling price of the dollar transferred to bank accounts abroad, in addition to the cash sale, amounted to 1460 dinars per dollar.

The financial expert, Hilal Al-Tahan, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency; "The increase in central bank sales, especially with regard to foreign remittances, is due to the rise in food prices globally, especially the basic ones, which have more than doubled."

He added, "Traders started raising requests to purchase dollars through remittances to cover their imports with larger amounts than the previous amounts for importing these materials."

Shafak News Agency correspondent stated, "The Central Bank sold today, during its auction to buy and sell US dollars, 246 million and 383 thousand and 936 US dollars, which is the highest sales of the bank during the first quarter of this year, covered by the bank at a base exchange rate of 1460 dinars per dollar.

Our correspondent added that most of the sales went to enhance balances abroad in the form of remittances and credits, which amounted to 196 million and 733 thousand and 936 dollars, while the rest went in the form of cash sales, which amounted to 49 million and 650 thousand dollars.

Our correspondent indicated that 32 banks have fulfilled requests to enhance balances abroad, and 20 banks have responded to cash requests, in addition to 209 mediation companies.

According to the currency sale window, in the Central Bank of Iraq, foreign remittances amounted to about 202 million dollars, or 78% of the total sales During its auction of buying and selling US dollars, the Central Bank witnessed an increase in its dollar sales, reaching 259 million and 507 thousand and 263 dollars, an increase of about 7%, or approximately 17 million dollars, over sales last Sunday. Foreign remittances recorded a decrease to about $202 million, in the form of requests to enhance balances abroad, and amounted to about 78% of the total sales. And the Central Bank recorded a significant increase in its sales of currency in cash, to more than 57.5 million dollars, or 22% of total sales. And 32 banks fulfilled requests to enhance balances abroad, compared to 17 banks to meet cash requests, with the participation of 140 intermediary companies and 23 exchange companies.

Shafaq News/ The "Iraq Future" Foundation for economic affairs indicated on Friday, a decline in the benefits of banks realized from the differences in the selling price of the dollar between the window of the Central Bank of Iraq and the market price during the first seven months of 2022.

The head of the foundation, Manar Al-Obaidi, said in a report published today, that the sales of the Central Bank window during the same period amounted to 28.4 billion dollars, indicating that the differences between the window price and the market price amounted to 536 million dollars, or 1.88%.

According to the report, the sales of the Central Bank of Iraq in 2016 and during the first seven months amounted to 17.9 billion dollars, noting that the differences achieved for the banks participating in the currency sale auction amounted to 1.1 billion, or 6.24%.

The report also noted that the Central Bank's sales during the first seven months of 2013 amounted to $29.3 billion, and the difference achieved for the banks participating in the currency sale and purchase auction reached 1.78, by 6%.

The institution published a detailed table on the percentage of differences between the price of the dollar in the central bank window, and the market price for the first seven months of the years 2013, 2016 and 2022.
