Shafaq News/ The Central Bank of Iraq's sales rose on Monday to more than 250 million dollars for the first time this year, while a financial expert attributed this rise to the process of selling dollars for the Hajj season and the rise in food prices globally.

Shafak News Agency correspondent stated that the Central Bank sold today, during its auction to buy and sell US dollars, 259 million and 506 thousand and 263 US dollars, which it covered at a base exchange rate of 1460 dinars per dollar.

He added that most of the sales went to enhance balances abroad in the form of remittances and credits, which amounted to 201 million and 956 thousand and 263 dollars, while the rest went in the form of cash sales amounting to 57 million and 550 thousand dollars.

Our correspondent indicated that 32 banks have fulfilled requests to enhance balances abroad, and 17 banks have responded to cash requests, in addition to 140 mediation companies.

In turn, the financial expert, Hilal Al-Tahan, told Shafaq News Agency, "The increase in central bank sales is due to the bank meeting the requests of pilgrims to buy dollars up to 3000 dollars for each pilgrim at the official price."

And he indicated that "this period witnessed a rise in cash sales, reaching an average of 50 million dollars per day, compared to before this date, when the cash sales rate reached 20 million dollars."

He added that "the rise in food prices globally also contributed to the rise in dollar sales transferred abroad for the purpose of importing foodstuffs, and thus prompted merchants to request remittances greater than the previous amounts."

With all the rampant corruption going on with the auctions, this could be controlled by the CBI governor but he lets the corruption continue. As I have previously said he is just as corruption as the rest of the crooks in Iraq or he would control this with the auctions.
