Shafaq News/ The United Nations envoy to Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, confirmed on Friday that her meeting with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, was positive.

"The meeting that brought her together with Al-Sadr witnessed the importance of finding a solution to the current political crisis," Plasschaert said, during a press conference, which was followed by Shafak News Agency.

In her response to whether there was an important message from al-Sadr, or signs of a political initiative, Plasschaert emphasized, "Al-Sadr will say what he has later."

On Friday morning, Plasschaert arrived in Najaf on an "unannounced" visit, during which she met al-Sadr at his residence in Hananah.

It is noteworthy that the last visit of Plasschaert to Najaf was in December 2021, after tension as a result of the announcement of the results of the October elections.

The political scene is living in a crisis situation and a dead end unprecedented in the history of Iraq, as more than 300 days have passed since the early elections without being able to form a new government in the country, and the survival of the caretaker government headed by Mustafa Al-Kazemi.

On the tenth of last October, Iraq held early legislative elections to get out of a political crisis that swept the country after large demonstrations in the central and southern regions in 2019 in protest against the widespread unemployment in society, the spread of financial and administrative corruption in government departments and institutions, and the deteriorating reality The service and the livelihood, which prompted the former prime minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, to resign under popular pressure.

As soon as the preliminary results of the elections were announced, the voices of forces and political actors rose in their rejection of losing many seats, accusing them of major fraud in the ballot, which was denied by the executive and judicial authorities, at a time when the United Nations and international organizations praised the integrity of the electoral process.

UN special envoy for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert met prominent Shia cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr in Najaf today to discuss the country's political crisis, state media reported.

According to the official Iraqi News Agency, Plasschaert said her meeting with the leader of the Sadrist movement "went well".

Plasschaert is meeting Iraqi political figures to promote dialogue and end the deadlock over the formation of a national government.

Yesterday she met Hadi Al-Amiri, leader of the Fateh Alliance, and "discussed the political situation in the country, including the need for all actors to prioritize the national interest and find solutions to the ongoing crisis," according to a statement by the UN mission in Iraq.

Al-Sadr has called for the dissolution of parliament, and holding of early elections as political crisis has prevented the formation of a government since the 10 October 2021 elections, in which he won the largest number of seats.

His supporters stormed Baghdad's government zone and broke into parliament twice last week, rejecting Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, a nominee of the Coordination Framework coalition, a collection of Iran-backed groups, for the post of prime minister.

Baghdad: The head of the United Nations mission in Iraq, Jenin Plaschaert, confirmed on Friday that her meeting with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, was good. She said in a press conference in Al-Hanana that she "discussed with the leader of the Sadrist movement the importance of finding a solution to the political crisis."

Meanwhile, supporters of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, from 4 provinces, are holding Friday prayers in the Green Zone in the center of the celebrations square.

The Sadrist movement seeks, through this gathering, to emphasize al-Sadr's demands, as well as to show strength, while prayer will be secured by the security forces and the Special Committee for Demonstrations of the Sadrist movement.

It is noteworthy that Muqtada al-Sadr had asked in a speech, Wednesday, to dissolve the Iraqi parliament and hold early elections, saying at the same time that “there is no benefit from dialogue” from his opponents, while the country is experiencing a political crisis that is getting more and more complicated by the day.

In his first speech since the start of his supporters' sit-in in Parliament on Saturday, he said: "I am sure that most of the people are tired of the entire ruling class, including some belonging to the current."

In addition, the pro-Iranian coordinating framework defined, in a statement, Thursday, its position on the early elections called by al-Sadr, according to the official Iraqi News Agency, “Aware.”

The coordination framework affirmed its “support for any constitutional path to address political crises and achieve the interests of the people, including early elections after achieving national consensus on them,” as he put it.

It is noteworthy that the political crisis in Iraq seems to be getting more complicated. Ten months after the early legislative elections in October 2021, the country is witnessing complete political paralysis in light of the inability to elect a new President of the Republic and form a new government.

Iraq also seems unable to get out of the political crisis, as it did not lead to the result of attempts and negotiations for consensus and the nomination of a prime minister. The political path is often complex and long in Iraq, due to severe divisions, multiple crises and the influence of armed groups.

Blackshart discusses with Sadr the political crisis in Iraq

Blackshart discusses with Sadr the political crisis in Iraq

Baghdad/ Anatolia

On Friday, the head of the United Nations mission in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, arrived at the office of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, in Najaf, in the south of the country.

And the official Iraqi News Agency reported, in a brief news, that Blackshart arrived at al-Sadr's office in the Hanana area of Najaf to meet with the leader of the Sadrist movement, without further details.

For his part, the local "Baghdad Today" news website reported that Plasschaert's meeting with al-Sadr is among several tours conducted by the head of the UN mission to the political poles in Baghdad and Erbil to discuss the political crisis in the country and stress the need for dialogue.

And on Wednesday, Al-Sadr called for the dissolution of parliament and the holding of early elections as part of a nine-month-old political crisis that has prevented the formation of a government since the October 10, 2021 elections.

The reactions of the political class in Iraq to Sadr's call were divided between supporters and opponents, in light of calls for a national dialogue with the aim of getting out of the crisis in the country.

And last June, the 73 Sadrist movement’s representatives (out of 329) submitted their resignations, after they were unable to form a “national majority” government, as the “coordinating framework” stuck to a “national consensus” government as usual, and now has a parliamentary majority that enables it to form a government. .

And on Saturday, Sadr's supporters stormed for the second time in less than a week, the parliament headquarters in the capital, Baghdad, to reject the nomination of the "coordinating framework" Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani for the position of prime minister.

Al-Sudani is close to Iran and has previously held government positions, while the Sadrist movement and other forces are calling for the selection of a figure who has not held any positions.
