** Professor of International Relations at Qatar University, Ali Bakir, told Anadolu Agency:

Biden 's visit is not surprising, as it is due to the need to seek the assistance of all the important oil and gas exporters, led by the Kingdom
.

Professor of International Relations at Qatar University, Ali Bakir, said that oil is at the top of the agenda of US President Joe Biden in his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, and mobilize sources of oil and gas alternative to its Russian counterpart.

This came in an interview with Anatolia, commenting on Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia, expected later today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday), and the files expected to be discussed during the visit.

On June 14, the White House announced through its spokeswoman, Karen Jean-Pierre, that Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia "in response to King Salman's invitation" to attend a political summit in Jeddah on July 16, bringing together the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in addition to Egypt, Iraq and Jordan.

** Unsurprising visit

Academic Bakeer evaluated the visit by saying: "It was not surprising given that Biden, and despite saying that there would be no conversation with Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, when he reached the presidency, he practically approved a number of arms deals with Saudi Arabia."

He added, "This was an indication that pragmatism and interest govern American moves, not ideology, and therefore there is a possibility to resume the relationship with Saudi Arabia in the form it was previously and meet the Crown Prince."

He added, "Especially that the timing of the visit comes in light of the United States and Europeans searching for an alternative to Russian gas and oil exports to the European Union countries on the one hand, and also in light of the search for sources to increase the pumping of quantities of oil and gas into the market to limit the sharp rise in prices currently taking place."

He added, "Therefore, there is a need to seek the assistance of all the important oil and gas exporters, led by Saudi Arabia, in terms of oil, and Qatar in terms of gas."

** Oil master file

The spokesman also stressed that the US side seeks first to mobilize alternative oil and gas sources to their Russian counterparts to secure them to European countries, and to try to reduce oil prices.

And he added: "Because the sharp rise in oil prices has a significant and negative impact on the American economy, on President Biden's political situation and on the upcoming elections, and therefore he has an interest in lowering prices and pumping more quantities into the market."

On the United States' efforts to distance Saudi Arabia from Russia, he said, "Washington's interest is for Riyadh to distance itself from Moscow, but at the same time, such a policy will have costs. The United States is interested in securing oil and gas, and without a doubt, keeping Saudi Arabia or other countries away from Russia."

He stated, "This may require greater efforts to pressure the concerned country, and I do not think that I see any means of pressure currently on Saudi Arabia or on other countries that want to diversify their relations, or open up to Russia, or other countries."

He pointed out, "I think that this issue may come at a later stage, not now, or the American side may try to replace it with an increasing openness towards Iran, for example, to achieve a balance, or perhaps to convince Saudi Arabia if it wants to obtain American support in confronting Iran at the stage." coming.”

** The normalization project

With regard to the US-led normalization with Israel, Bakir said, "The normalization project continues in different forms, proportions, and policies on the American side, which has recently been keen on Israel being part of the Gulf defense efforts against external dangers, perhaps foremost of which is Iran."

He added, "Therefore, there is an interest for the United States to work on integrating Israel in the region through the process of normalization, and also in integrating it in the region in terms of the gas file, because Israel is a gas producing and exporting country."

He continued, "There are attempts to integrate it into the regional economy, through projects related to the marketing, production, and transportation of gas. Also, the United States wants to reduce pressure in the future through its support for Israel, and it sees it as encouraging cooperation between it and other countries in the region."

And he indicated that "this would help it achieve this goal, and there is no doubt that there were indirect steps between Saudi Arabia and Israel to normalize, but these steps were not public, unlike the steps taken by the UAE."

He continued, "Everyone knows how the former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sabotaged these efforts between Saudi Arabia and his country when he publicly revealed a visit he had made to Riyadh to obtain electoral gains, and therefore the Saudi side saw that such disclosure was not in his favor, so I stopped to to some extent normalization efforts.

** The position of Iran

On the position on Iran, he said: "The Biden administration is interested in reaching an agreement with Iran on the nuclear file, and there are negotiations taking place and efforts are being made, but they have reached a dead end recently, due to Iran's high ceiling and a new attempt to blackmail the American position."

He added: "Of course, there are regional fears that any agreement between Iran and the United States will lead to giving Tehran the upper hand in the region, motivating and encouraging it to continue its expansion project, especially in light of allowing it to export more oil and gas, and thus obtaining financial returns that are distributed on its regional project. and its militias deployed in the region.

And he added: "These fears extend to several countries, including, of course, some Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as well as Israel, so there is also an American interest in developing defense cooperation, but to what extent is this actually possible on the ground, this needs a special evaluation ".

He continued, "There are some reports that say that Israel has already deployed defense systems or radars in some Gulf countries as part of this project to confront Iran, but the matter needs more information and a more accurate assessment."

Information/Baghdad...

On Friday, the religious authority, Sheikh Jawad Al-Khalisi, criticized the US President’s visit to the Middle East, describing him as the godfather of global Zionism, especially as he admitted that he is a Zionist to the core and that he is the herald of all the injustices that “Israel” wants against our Arab and Islamic peoples.

Al-Khalisi said during the Friday prayer sermon in Al-Kadhimiya, which was followed by “The Information”, “We condemn the visit of the American president to occupied Palestine and his meeting in Jeddah and Riyadh, which aims to emphasize the implementation of the normalization project in implementation of Zionist orders by opening the air borders between the Arab countries of the Hijaz and the usurping occupation entity.” “.

He added: "The American president has declared frankly, clearly, rudely and rudely that his coming to the Middle East aims to protect American interests in the region, which are the same as the interests of the usurping entity."

He pointed out that “Iraq’s participation with any force allied with the Zionist entity is the clearest manifestation of public betrayal of this nation and its capabilities,” stressing that “no one represents the Iraqi people in this meeting or meeting, so the visit of Biden and his gang to the region is an unwelcome visit and is popularly and officially rejected.” . finished/25

He pointed out that "Iraq is the country most affected by climate change, and that is why we have taken a decision to open up to all our brothers and friends in the world by benefiting from their experiences in addressing this challenge with climate change and water issues." He continued: "Our motto from the first day of this government is: Iraq is first, and we will continue with this approach in order to serve our people, and our position is clear on the Palestinian issue, and there is nothing on the agenda of the conference to discuss the issue of normalization."

Al-Kazemi explained, "We will discuss with the Americans what we agreed on in the strategic agreement, and activate agreements in the field of education, culture, health, and other areas that are reflected in the economic role." In advance, "thanks to all the brothers who participated in the unified Friday prayer in Sadr City, east of Baghdad, which follows the path of the martyr Muhammad Muhammad Sadiq al-Sadr."

The Prime Minister also wished "the political parties to invest in the initiative put forward by Muqtada al-Sadr, which is a national initiative that deserves thanks, and for the political forces to benefit from this proposal in order to find solutions to our problems, and work to establish an Iraqi national government that serves all Iraqis."

"Today, we are in dire need of wisdom, patience, reconciliation with ourselves, and restoring confidence for the sake of Iraq and the Iraqis," he stressed.

Biden reveals the scenes of his meeting with Mohammed bin Salman: You bear the responsibility for the murder of Khashoggi

Baghdad - people

US President Joe Biden said on Friday he had told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman he held him responsible for the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as they held talks aimed at resetting relations with a key Arab ally.

Biden said, in statements after meetings with senior Saudi leaders, that the crown prince denied his involvement and confirmed that he held the officials accountable.

Biden shook hands with the Saudi crown prince, while King Salman shook hands with an outstretched palm after arriving in the kingdom.

"With regard to the Khashoggi murder, I raised (the issue) at the height of the meeting, and made my idea of it clear at that moment and my opinion of it now," Biden told reporters.

"I was frank and straightforward in discussing the matter. You made my point very clearly. I said very clearly, because the US President's silence on a human rights issue is against our nature and mine."

American intelligence says that the crown prince directly approved the killing of Khashoggi, who was associated with the circles of power before he became a critic of it, at the hands of Saudi agents. Biden said what happened to Khashoggi is disgraceful.

Biden spoke about the crown prince's response during their meeting and said, "He basically said that he was not personally responsible for that...I indicated that I thought he (was responsible for it)."

The president said they also discussed energy and he expects to see "more steps" from Saudi Arabia, the major oil producer, on energy in the coming weeks.

When he was running for president, Biden said the kingdom should become a global "pariah" because of Khashoggi's murder. On Friday, he said he had no regrets about the comment.

Energy and security interests prompted the US president and his aides to decide not to isolate the kingdom, the world's largest oil exporter and regional power that strengthens its ties with Russia and China.

French newspapers: Saudi Arabia does not raise oil production, and Biden tooth is an obstacle to re-election

Baghdad - people

Among the most prominent topics covered by French newspapers today: Sri Lanka, and what after the success of the street in dismissing the president, forest fires in Europe, the Biden-Bin Salman meeting and the age of the 79-year-old US president, which has become a subject of discussion even within the ranks of the Democratic Party in the United States.

The newspaper "Liberation" summarized US President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia with the image of his handshake with Covidia, if you will, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, "the man who swore the American president not to shake hands with him" and "Liberation" pointed out, "that he succumbed to the obligations of political realism and the prices of oil".

"Le Monde" devoted its front page to the subject, with the headline "The energy crisis brings back the pariah MBS, as it said, to the international arena." "Le Monde's correspondent, Benjamin Barth, pointed out that "the stone imposed on Mohammed bin Salman, after a CIA report accused him of orchestrating the assassination of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi in a shocking manner, this stone did not last more than four years." Le Monde quoted a researcher at the Carnegie Endowment, Yasmine Farouk, that Joe Biden's turn is a victory for the Saudi crown prince, who has not deviated from his "Vision 2030" plan for the past four years. Salman, who is a mixture of reforms and authoritarianism, are those related to aspects of liberalism, specifically the large number of Saudi women entering the labor market.

The Gulf states are not enthusiastic about increasing their oil production

Le Monde considers that Biden's demand to increase oil production may not fall on deaf ears in both Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. "Le Monde" quoted a diplomatic source as saying that "the Gulf states are not enthusiastic about increasing their oil production." As for the researcher at the Institute of International and Strategic Relations, Didier Bellion, he pointed out that "the United States has become almost unable to impose its political line," except that "Saudi Arabia may not be able to increase its production because it has not invested enough in its oil facilities in recent years." According to "Le Monde", she pointed out that "the United States is seeking to revive the Arab camp loyal to it, just as it succeeded in restoring spirit to the Atlantic Alliance."

When Biden continues his predecessor's policy in the Middle East

"Le Monde" also dealt with "Relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia: The Politics of Small Steps", as it titled its article on President Biden's station in Israel. "Le Monde" correspondent in Jerusalem, "Louis Amber", pointed out that "Joe Biden did not have much to say to Israel except that he loves it," but he "succeeded in contributing to a rapprochement between the Hebrew state and Riyadh when the Kingdom announced the opening of its airspace to Israeli civil aviation, and thus he has already He continued the policy of his predecessor, Donald Trump, without naming him.” Le Monde wrote, pointing out that “there is a fundamental difference between Tel Aviv and Washington over how to respond to the Iranian nuclear threat, because the United States did not despair of negotiating solutions, while Israel does not see a solution except through a strike.” military".

In Colombo, the street succeeded in removing the president, but there was no reconciliation

And now to "Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, where the street succeeded in removing the president, but reconciliation is still far from being achieved," as "Le Figaro" headlined its article. The newspaper's special envoy to Colombo, Emmanuel Derville, is of course referring to the conflict between the separatist Sinhalese and Tamils in northern Sri Lanka. This is while "Le Monde" published an investigation on the citizenship movements that succeeded, during a period not exceeding 100 days, in the peaceful overthrow of the government. Protests were carried out by ordinary citizens. "Le Monde" wrote, and quoted one of the participants in the demonstrations, that the occupation of the presidential palace was symbolic and aimed only to inform everyone that the power was no longer in the hands of the ousted president, "Gotabaya Rajapaksa."

The age of the American president raises controversy

Among the topics covered by today's newspapers is the "issue of the age of the American president", to which "Le Figaro" devoted an article. Adrian Golem, its Washington correspondent, indicated that only 26% of Democratic Party members approve of 79-year-old Joe Biden's re-run for the presidency in 2024. France The raging forest fires in the Gironde and the Bouches de Rhône in particular preoccupied the press, led by "Le Parisien". The widespread use that made "1800 French firefighters' struggle with fires" the cover subject.
