: The adviser to the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Kamal Kharazi, said that the UAE and Jordan do not have the military capabilities to participate in an alliance against Iran or to fight a regional war.

Kharazi considered that "the idea of forming a Middle Eastern "NATO" alliance is inappropriate and deals a strong blow to the security of the region," stressing that "we will not allow NATO to operate near our borders and consider it a threat to our security."

He stressed, "We prefer to deal with the principle of good neighborliness and we recommend the countries of the region not to bow to Washington," adding that "the UAE and Jordan do not have the military capabilities to participate in an alliance against Iran or fight a regional war."

Kharazi expressed his hope for "positive results in the dialogue with Saudi Arabia," noting that "Washington has failed in its policies and we rule out any real results for US President Joe Biden's visit to the region."

And Jordan's King Abdullah II announced last month that he supports the establishment of a Middle Eastern "NATO" alliance, provided that its missions are very clear.

A report talks about an American-Israeli effort to establish a “security alliance” with Arab countries against Iran

Baghdad - people

The United States and Israel are seeking to persuade Arab countries to link air defense systems with Tel Aviv in order to ensure a better confrontation of Iranian attacks, but hesitation is still hanging over the Arab side. Will Biden's visit to the region resolve this matter?

Reuters quoted "four informed sources" as saying that the United States and Israel are seeking to prepare the atmosphere and pave the way for a security alliance with Arab countries linking air defense systems between them in the face of Iranian attacks with drones and missiles in the Middle East.

Two sources familiar with the plan said that the idea, which will rely on the use of Israeli technology, may gain new impetus during US President Joe Biden's trip to Israel, the Palestinian territories and Saudi Arabia from July 13 to 16.

And regional tension escalated over Tehran's nuclear program, while Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and parts of Iraq were subjected to air strikes using drones and missiles, for which Iranian-backed militias claimed responsibility.

An Israeli official told Reuters, asking not to be named, that the participating countries make their air defense systems work simultaneously through remote electronic communications, without using the same systems.

A well-informed source in Washington said that while Biden will discuss broader regional security coordination, which includes Washington's close ally Israel, at a Gulf summit chaired by Saudi Arabia next week, no formal agreement is expected to be announced.

According to three of the sources, the plan includes establishing a network of radars and monitoring and interception systems between Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Iraq, Jordan and Egypt, with the help of Israeli technology and US military bases.

One of the sources said that Israeli officials floated the idea of a regional defense system at a US Central Command meeting attended by military officials from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh in March.

One of the sources, who asked not to be named, added that "the proposal relates to a joint monitoring system, in which each country will notify the other (countries) in the event of an attack being detected."

Iran, which has one of the largest missile systems in the region, says that the joint military activities between Israel and Arab countries in the Gulf are motivated by "motives of desperation."

Arabic frequency

Despite the American pressure towards cooperation in confronting Iran, there is resistance in Arab countries such as Iraq, Qatar and Kuwait to such an approach. Reuters sources said discussions are still at an early stage and that the idea is already facing opposition in several Arab capitals that refuse to deal with Israel.

But Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said last month that the fledgling US-sponsored air defense alliance was "up and running" and Biden's visit could get blood flowing through his veins. He added that the regime had already thwarted Iranian attack attempts.

"There are divergent views in different capitals," said a senior Biden administration official, who asked not to be identified. He added, "We are not trying to create a hierarchical system run by a higher leadership... We are trying to build on existing relationships, some of which are apparent, and some are hidden."

Iraq is a prime example of how difficult it is for Arab countries to join the coalition. Tehran has extensive influence through Shiite armed groups as well as Shiite political forces, which makes it almost certain that it will prevent any attempt to participate in a security agreement.

The UAE government said it is not a party to any regional military alliance against any particular country and has no information about any official talks. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan did not respond to requests for comment.
