yota691
The US Embassy tops the list of the most followed embassies on Twitter in Iraq Time: 02/07/2022 21:07:20 Reading: 1,079 times {Miscellaneous: Al Furat News} The Digital Media Center (DMC) announced a new list of the top 10 accounts belonging to foreign embassies operating in Iraq, which are more followed by users on the Twitter platform. The Center confirmed, in a statement issued by it regarding monitoring and analyzing digital phenomena in Iraq, that the account of the American Embassy topped the list with (159.6) thousand followers, followed by the account of the British Embassy with a number of followers that amounted to 128 thousand, while the Russian Embassy account ranked third with (19.7) ) thousand followers. The Monitoring Team referred to a number of information regarding this statistic and the facts it contains: First: The selection criterion relates to the accounts of foreign embassies operating in Iraq, not the personal accounts of ambassadors. Second: The accounts of the embassies that are certified with the "blue mark" have been approved only, because the Twitter platform holds an important place for countries, leaders, elite and influencers who derive their information from accounts bearing the authentication and proof mark. Third: The list included the top 10 major embassies away from the accounts of diplomatic consulates affiliated with some embassies in northern and southern Iraq. Fourth: The list was devoid of any Arab embassy account, and this is an indication of the Arab countries' lack of interest in digital diplomacy towards Iraq, and its work was limited to the traditional diplomacy represented by the embassy and the ambassador away from the virtual world. Fifth: The Turkish Embassy is the only Islamic country that has paid a clear interest in digital diplomacy in Iraq by publishing instructions and clarifications and promoting tourism and study in Turkey. Sixth: Some countries relied, in their digital diplomacy, on the person of the ambassador and his activity in the virtual world. An example of this is the former Japanese ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Fumio Iwai, when his tenure in Iraq ended, he left a clear void, and the diplomatic role of the Japanese people in Iraq declined significantly. Seventh: With the exception of the American embassy, most of the embassies did not show a clear interest in marketing, promoting and inviting to participate in the international programs and cultural exchange that they offer to the peoples of the host countries. Eighth: Some embassies relied in their tweets on their official language, such as the American, Spanish, Italian, Canadian and Russian, and this is a negative indication that the language of the host country, Iraq, is not used. Ninth: The monitoring and analysis team diagnosed a significant weakness in the interaction of the accounts of the embassies operating in Iraq with the official accounts of the Iraqi government, including the accounts of ministers, spokesmen and ministries, as some Iraqi government accounts continue to make a “mention” for the accounts of the documented embassies, despite the absence of any interaction from them. . Tenth: Some of the official accounts of the embassies publish tweets at different times and do not participate in Iraqi national events, as accounts of the same countries do in other countries.
