Shafaq News/ The Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries "OPEC" Muhammad Barkindo arrived today, Friday, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Oil, Barkindo's visit comes "to participate in the launch of the OPEC history book in a celebration to be held in the People's Hall in Baghdad next Sunday, with the participation of the Minister of Oil and a number of officials, guests and those interested in the oil and energy sector."

It is noteworthy that the book launch ceremony comes within the framework of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the organization's founding in Baghdad.

{Economy: Al-Furat News} Oil Minister Abdul-Jabbar Ismail stressed today, Sunday, the role of OPEC in stabilizing the oil market, while the Secretary-General of the organization, Muhammad Barkindo, praised Iraq's active role in OPEC as one of the founders.
 

This came during the celebration of the launch of the book "OPEC 60 Years", in the presence of Barkindo and the Ministers of Culture, Sports, Youth and Water Resources in Iraq. 
The Minister of Oil said, according to the ministry’s statement, which {Al-Furat News} received a copy of, that: “The celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People’s Day was held in the People’s Hall in which the organization was established in 1960 in the presence of the founding countries, and today we are witnessing the signing of a book that includes in its pages the history of the organization and how it contributed Over the past decades, it has contributed to maintaining the stability of global markets, protecting the cohesion of OPEC to reach its goals, and protecting the rights of producers and consumers.
He referred to "the history of the People's Hall, which witnessed historical events since the twenties of the last century," referring to "the project to rehabilitate it, which began in 2017, during the time of the Ministers of Oil, Jabbar Laibi and Thamer Al-Ghadban, to appear in a beautiful suit that reflects the civilized and cultural face of Iraq."
The minister stressed, "Iraq and the organization, with its Secretary-General Barkindo, are keen on the importance of holding a book signing ceremonial in the People's Hall to witness the date of the two signatures, the first for the establishment of OPEC and the second for the signing and launching of the book on the history of OPEC." 
For his part, the Secretary-General of OPEC praised "Iraq's active role in the organization as one of the founders, a country that witnessed the founding conference more than 60 years ago, so it was necessary that the celebration of the organization's founding be held in Iraq, but due to the Corona pandemic, the celebration was postponed."
Barkindo continued, "Today we meet at a ceremony to anticipate and launch the 60-year history of OPEC, which includes the most important historical stations and events that confirmed its distinguished presence in addressing challenges and crises in international markets, and working to achieve balance and protect the producing countries," praising "the efforts of the Ministry of Oil and those in charge of completing the celebration." ". 
The statement stated that, "During the ceremony, two copies of the book were signed by the Minister of Oil and the Secretary-General of OPEC, and a film was shown about the history of the organization's founding and the history of Iraqi oil production prepared by the media office in the Ministry of Oil, and a film about the history of the organization prepared by the public relations in OPEC, and artistic paintings for the Dar band. At the end of the celebration, the Minister of Oil presented Barkindo with a souvenir in appreciation of his distinguished services throughout his service in the organization.

Ismail said, at the book signing ceremony hosted by the People’s Hall that witnessed the founding of the organization in 1960: “The book includes in its pages the history of the organization and how it has contributed over the past decades to maintaining the stability of global markets and protecting the cohesion of OPEC to reach its goals and protect the rights of producers and consumers.”
