 Baghdad: Rola is confident

The Ministry of Oil revealed that its total annual losses due to subsidizing the selling prices of products amount to three trillion dinars, while confirming that the smuggling operations that were recently contained, were causing millions of liters of oil derivatives to be wasted.
The Associate Director General of the Petroleum Products Company, Director of Inspection at the Ministry of Oil, Ihsan Mousa Ghanem, told Al-Sabah: "Sales of petroleum products rose by about (5-6) million liters, after monitoring smuggling of oil by mafias and arresting those involved."

He added that "sales decreased last April from March by 1.5 million liters per day, and this explains the smuggled quantity, knowing that sales are supposed to rise when the summer season approaches," noting that "the proactive operations to reduce smuggling, led to an increase in the quantity of smuggling." Sales, which confirms that the increase is the same as the smuggled quantities. Ghanem explained that "the low prices of oil products, including gasoline, in the center compared to the provinces of the region and neighboring countries, is what encouraged these mafias to smuggle oil and achieve huge profits," noting that "the price of a liter of gasoline ranges between 450-650 dinars, at a time when a liter is sold. In the provinces of the region, it ranges between 1,400 and 1,500 dinars, according to the stock exchange, so the difference in prices stimulates oil smuggling.

The Ministry of Oil revealed, on Tuesday, that its total annual losses due to subsidizing the selling prices of products, indicating that it amounts to three trillion dinars, while indicating that 7 million liters go daily to smuggling.

The Associate Director General of the Petroleum Products Company, Director of Inspection at the Ministry of Oil, Ihsan Mousa Ghanem, said in a statement reported by Al-Sabah newspaper that "sales of petroleum products rose by about (5-6) million liters, after monitoring smuggling of oil by mafias and the arrest of those involved in it. ".

Ghanem added, "Sales decreased in April compared to March by 1.5 million liters per day, and this explains the smuggled quantity, knowing that sales are supposed to rise when the summer season approaches," noting that "the preemptive operations to reduce smuggling, led to an increase The amount of sales, which confirms that the increase is the same as the smuggled quantities.”

He explained, "The low prices of oil products, including gasoline, in the center compared to the provinces of the region and neighboring countries, is what encouraged these mafias to smuggle oil and achieve huge profits," noting that "the price of a liter of gasoline ranges between 450-650 dinars, while a liter is sold. In the provinces of the region, it ranges between 1,400 and 1,500 dinars, according to the stock exchange, so the difference in prices stimulates oil smuggling.

He stated that "the rise in crude due to the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war cast a shadow over the prices of oil and the rest of its products, which also encouraged an increase in smuggling operations, as the price of a barrel of gasoline was 12 dollars more than a barrel of crude oil, but now the difference is up to 40 dollars." Despite this, Iraq, except for Kurdistan, still sells a liter of gasoline for an amount not exceeding 30 cents as a service to the citizen.

The Assistant Director General of the Petroleum Products Company confirmed that "the ministry imports 16 million liters per day of petroleum products, while it can import between eight to nine million liters per day without smuggling (which means that 7 million liters goes to smuggling)," pointing out that " The Ministry of Oil, as a result of the continuous support for the sale of petroleum products, estimates its annual losses at three trillion dinars.

Alsumaria News - Baghdad

, a member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Intisar Al-Moussawi, revealed today, Friday, the intention of Parliament to form a special committee to follow up on oil smuggling operations and to hold those involved accountable, noting that the Oil Ministry is "complicit" in this file, as she put it.

Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "There are oil smuggling mafias, and unfortunately, these mafias exist even within the Ministry of Oil, which led to the lack of control over smuggling operations," noting that "there are committees that will be formed from the Oil and Gas Committee, the Presidency of Parliament, the Federal Government and the Governorate of Basra in order to identify the corrupt files and transfer those involved in them to the competent authorities.

Al-Moussawi added, "The government is required to take urgent measures to address the oil file, especially in Basra, and unfortunately, the current conditions in Iraq and the lack of a government with full powers made some of those in the executive authorities take advantage of those circumstances to achieve special gains, in addition to the penetration of some companies from the region." in Basra Governorate.

She pointed out that "there are efforts being made in order to hold the oil smugglers accountable, in addition to holding the Oil Ministry to account for being complicit in this file, given that there is no sovereign ministry neglected in its work, especially since Iraq's dependence on oil exports makes the Oil Ministry need a clear detour to address weaknesses." in her joints.

And she indicated that "if we assume that half of the oil is smuggled and the other half goes to the establishment of service projects, then it is better to find those projects that serve the citizen and for Iraq to be a developed country as it is in other countries, but we did not find anything on the ground, and the smuggling operations are still continuing without treatment." Member of Parliament, Muhammad Nuri Al-Abed Rabbo, confirmed today, Monday, the existence of great corruption in the oil products distribution company, while he expected a fuel crisis during the coming winter.

Al-Abd Rabbo said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "Some Iraqi provinces, including Nineveh, are now witnessing a fuel crisis, so how about when winter comes and consumption increases!", indicating that "this matter will lead to a greater fuel crisis."

He pointed out that "crises do not meet with serious solutions, but rather prosthetics, as there is no increase in refineries and there is no increase in production."

While stressing that "there are large smuggling operations of fuel," he pointed out that "the corruption in the petroleum products distribution company is very large."

Al-Abed Rabbo added, "The simple worker in most gas stations receives about 300-400 thousand additional Iraqi dinars, so how about the senior official," stressing by saying, "In the oil products police, corruption is very large."
