Today, Wednesday, the Parliament’s Labor Committee and Civil Society Organizations decided to proceed with the legislation of the “Retirement and Social Security Law for Workers”, after discussing the proposed law with the First Deputy Speaker of the Council, Hakim Al-Zamili.

This came during a meeting chaired by Al-Zamili, with the Labor Committee and parliamentary civil society organizations, during which they discussed the proposal for the retirement and social security law for workers, with the withdrawal of a statement received by "Al-Iqtisad News".

Al-Zamili directed, according to the statement, to "accelerate the preparation and maturity of this law in coordination with the Services Committee, stressing that" the law will contribute to creating more job opportunities and reviving non-functional sectors such as agriculture, industry, services and tourism, in addition to encouraging investment.

In another matter, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament discussed, during a meeting of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, "the overlap in the tasks and powers of some committees, especially those that were split during the current session or that were created to keep pace with the country's oversight and legislative need."

Al-Zamili confirmed that there are efforts to "amend the internal system of the council according to the new variables, end the state of overlap and determine the authority of each committee to ensure that the tasks of the committees are not violated."

He pointed out that "the Integrity Committee is one of the basic committees to monitor government performance, and it is the first wall in the current and upcoming war against the corrupt, to curb corruption that has exhausted the state and the people."

SULAIMANI — The Iraqi parliament passed the food security bill on Wednesday (June 8), allocating 25 trillion dinars ($17 million) to the project bill.

The bill is an emergency draft law for food security and development, which aims to keep a food rationing program amid the increasing price of food worldwide.

Rebwar Awrahman, an MP from the New Generation Movement (NGM) and a member of the finance committee in the Iraqi parliament, told NRT the law is important for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

He also stated the issues of food and medication supplies was important to the NGM and if the project is implemented, the food-rationing program and medicine will also be provided for the Kurdistan Region.

Sattar Irabi, a member of the parliamentary finance committee, said on May 31 the committee held meetings with the relevant parties and its members discussed the bill’s articles.

The food security bill was legalized under the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, despite an earlier ruling from the Federal Supreme Court on May 15 that the caretaker government did not have the authority to create legislation.

The court said the new Iraqi government, which is yet to be formed, has the authority to legislate new laws.

 Baghdad: Muhammad Al-Ansari

Yesterday, Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted on the “emergency support for food security and development” bill, which included allocating 25 trillion dinars to support the ration card, farmers’ dues, the payment of electricity debts, the development of the regions and other items and paragraphs contained in 17 articles in the proposed law, while The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, congratulated the Iraqi people and Parliament for this achievement.
A statement by the parliament's media department said that "the council voted, in its eleventh session, on the proposed law (emergency support for food security and development)."
The law aims, according to the statement, to achieve food security, reduce poverty, achieve financial stability in light of emergency global developments, continue to provide services to citizens, raise the standard of living for them after the budget law expires, create job opportunities, maximize Iraqis' benefit from state resources, advance development, and resume work on suspended projects. And lagging behind because of the lack of funding and the progress of new projects of importance.
The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hakim Al-Zamili, blessed the people for voting on the "Emergency support for Food Security" law, stressing that it is a great achievement and a victory for the rights of the poor and vulnerable segments, among others.
Al-Zamili pointed out that the biggest challenge faced by the House of Representatives during the last period was to provide the requirements and needs of the people, and the House was keen to pass the "Food Security" law with the aim of supporting the poor by providing ration card allocations, and increasing social welfare salaries to include the largest number of eligible people. In addition to the sums needed to meet the needs of the electricity sector, adjusting the status of lecturers, administrators, employees, metrology readers, holders of higher degrees, first graduates, electricity and oil contracts, and other ministries, and returning voided contracts from the security and military agencies.
In turn, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, suggested forming a parliamentary committee to prevent fraud and corruption in implementing the provisions of the "Emergency support for Food Security and Development" law.
Al-Sadr said, in a tweet on Twitter: "The parliament's adoption of the Food Security and Development Law is another victory for Fustat. It has proven to everyone the unprecedented strength of the Iraqi parliament in previous years."
He added, "But the concern is all about the corrupt domination of this law and its application, so it should not be overlooked that the presence of the Sadrist bloc currently does not go beyond Parliament and does not exist in the current cabinet formation."
He suggested "forming a parliamentary oversight committee and one of the specialized and relevant committees to prevent fraud and corruption in the implementation of the provisions of the Food Security Law, otherwise the people's summit will be lost again," vowing, "I will not be lenient in exposing everyone who begs himself to manipulate the people's power and summit."
