The governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, stated that multiple missiles fell in the area, saying it was unclear whether the target was the US consulate or the airport in the city. According to INA, five explosions were heard in the attack.
The health minister of Kurdistan stated that there were no injuries or deaths reported in the attack on Saturday night. A US official told Reuters on Saturday night that there were no US military casualties in the attack.
Independent open-source intelligence (OSINT) accounts shared videos reportedly shared by Iranian civilians showing missiles being fired from Iran at the time of the attack, with at least one of the videos being geolocated to a site in Khasabad in the East Azerbaijan province of Iran.

According to Kurdistan 24 reporter Barzan Sadiq, the Kurdistan 24 studio in the area was reportedly damaged in the attack as well.

Shiite cleric and Iraqi politician Muqtada al-Sadr responded with outrage to the missile attack, tweeting shortly after the attack "In the name of God, Irbil is under the fire of loss and betrayal, and under pain of starvation, as if the Kurds were not Iraqis. Rather, they are the lung of Iraq and its indivisible part."
"Erbil will not kneel except for moderation, independence and sovereignty.  Peace and love for you, Erbil, and you Kurds, and patience until the achievement of: #National_Majority_Government," tweeted al-Sadr.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi responded to the attack as well, tweeting: "The aggression which targeted the dear city of Erbil and spread fear amongst its inhabitants is an attack on the security of our people. I discussed these developments with the KRG PM. Our security forces will investigate and stand firm against any threats towards our people."
Prime minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, responded to the attack on Saturday night, writing "Erbil does not bow to cowards. I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on parts of Erbil and call on the brave and patient people of Erbil to be patient and to follow the instructions of the security agencies. I thank you for your patience."
The missile attack came as negotiations to return to the JCPOA nuclear deal with Iran stalled in Vienna.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell tweeted on Friday that the talks in Vienna needed a "pause," due to "external factors." Borrell added that a final text is "essentially ready and on the table."
Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stated on Saturday that there were at least one or two key issues that the US and Iran had not yet reached an agreement on. He added that the two states disagree on how sanctions should be lifted, with Iran wanting more sectors released from sanctions and the US wanting less.
Iranian officials stated that it is unclear when negotiations will resume.
No party has taken responsibility for the missile fire as of yet. Iran has threatened retaliation in recent days for the deaths of two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers in an alleged Israeli airstrike in Syria last week.
Iran-backed militias reportedly targeted the Al-Tanf base, where US forces are housed, in October in retaliation for an alleged Israeli airstrikes which targeted Iranian-backed forces in Syria last year.
This is a developing story.

Rockets fired toward US consulate in Erbil

Multiple rockets fired towards city of Erbil in northern Iraq. No injuries reported.

Multiple rockets were fired towards the city of Erbil in northern Iraq early Sunday morning, The National reported, citing the state news agency.

More than three explosions were heard but Erbil International Airport, where US military forces are stationed, was not believed to be the target, Deputy Minister Hiwa Afandi said.

Sky News Arabia reported that the rockets targeted the US consulate in Erbil.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The Saudi channel Al-Hadath reported that the missiles were launched from Iran and were in retaliation for the killing of two officers from the Revolutionary Guards in an air strike in Syria this week which was attributed to Israel.

There has been no confirmation of this report from Iran.

The rocket attack follows reports that Israel's defense establishment has raised the alert level in northern Israel, fearing Iranian retaliation for the air strike in Damascus widely believed to have been perpetrated by Israel.

Erbil, capital of the Kurdish region, has been a repeated target of attacks.

This past July, a drone attacked Erbil airportwith explosives, reportedly targeting the US base on the airport grounds. There were no reports of structural damage, injuries or casualties.

In a similar attack in April, Kurdish officials said that a drone targeted Erbil airport. While no casualties were reported in the attack, a building was damaged.

Rocket attacks have regularly targeted Iraqi bases as well as the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, where the US embassy is located, since the US elimination of top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in January of 2020.

Well when a terrorist country finds out the world’s supper power hasn’t any leadership or backbone this is what happens.
1) What’s Iraq gonna do about a foreign country shooting rockets at your supposedly sovereign country.
2) What’s the weak USA gonna do about a foreign terrorist country shooting rockets at one of your consultants.
3) What’s the next target for this terrorist country, a USA military base?

Iranian Revolutionary Guard claims responsibility for missile barrage in Irbil, says it responded to crimes from the 'Zionist regime'

NEWS March 13, 2022

The Iranian government has claimed responsibility for a recent missile barrage that targeted the expansive U.S. consulate complex in the Iraqi city of Irbil – also spelled Erbil.

There are no reported American fatalities, according to the Associated Press, but the attack marks a significant escalation between the U.S. and Iran.

The Iranian Revolutionary guard said that it launched the attack against an Israeli “strategic center of conspiracy” in Irbil.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that Israel recently acted offensively by planning a recent strike that killed two members of the Revolutionary Guard which prompted an Iranian response.

“Following the recent crimes of the fake Zionist regime and the previous announcement that the crimes and evils of this infamous regime will not go unanswered; Last night, the ‘Strategic Center of Conspiracy and Evil of the Zionists’ was targeted by powerful and point-to-point missiles of the IRGC,” the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement following the attack.

An American defense official and an Iraqi security official confirmed that the strike was launched from Iran.

An Iraqi official in Baghdad initially said that several missiles had struck the U.S. consulate in Ibril and that the consulate was the target of the attack.

However, Lawk Ghafari, the head of the Kurdish foreign media office, said that none of the missiles struck the U.S. facility but that areas around the sprawling complex had been hit.

The U.S. defense official said it was unclear how many missiles were fired and what the precise area of impact was. A second U.S. official said that there was no damage at any building belonging to the U.S. government and that there is no clear indication that the target was the consulate complex.

The barrage came several days after the Iranian government said that it would retaliate for an earlier Israeli attack outside of Damascus, Syria, that resulted in the deaths of two members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The attack also coincided with increasing regional tensions.

Negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials over the Iran nuclear deal have been paused in response to Russian complaints over Western sanctions stemming from the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian diplomats have been serving as meditators during the negotiations.

Iranian officials also suspended the ongoing secret Baghdad talks that were aimed at defusing longstanding tensions with its rivals in Saudi Arabia.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi responded to the attack by tweeting: “The aggression which targeted the dear city of Erbil and spread fear amongst its inhabitants is an attack on the security of our people. I discussed these developments with the KRG PM. Our security forces will investigate and stand firm against any threats toward our people.”

Let me guess. This is the price Joe, and the US citizenry have to pay in order for Iran to consider selling us the 650,000 bpd and replace the oil we use to get from Russia ? Plus we have to pay for it Iranian rial, I bet. President Joe, respectfully, do not under any circumstances ever buy oil again from Russia, Iran or Venezuela, ever, ever, ever again. Source said oil from Canada, and open up the XL pipelines to get it to all points necessary in the USA. Also return the US to being a net exporter of oil and gas, which ended in 2021 after you took office.

A statement of the council, a copy of which was received by "Nass", (March 13, 2022), stated that "the Ministerial Council for National Security held an extraordinary meeting, today, Sunday, headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to discuss the attack that targeted the city of Erbil at dawn today, It caused casualties, and terrified the city’s residents.”

The Revolutionary Guard tells other details about the bombing of Erbil and identifies the launch area of the missiles

Baghdad - people

On Sunday evening, Iranian media published other details of the missile attack launched by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on the city of Erbil.

The Iranian "Tasnim" news agency said, "The center that was targeted in the missile attack is the gathering site of a large number of (Zionists), and given the number of people present in this base, the possibility of human casualties and casualties is very high."

"The missiles were launched from the northwestern region of Iran, and all of these powerful missiles hit their targets," she added.

"The main target of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' missiles in this attack was the Israeli headquarters, which is far from American military sites," the agency continued, quoting what it said were its sources.

The governor of Erbil, Omid Khoshnaw, confirmed on Sunday that the recent missile attack did not achieve its goal of hitting the US consulate in the province, and that the missiles landed in residential areas.

The governor said in a press conference attended by a “Nass” correspondent (March 13, 2022), that “the damage to the k24 channel came due to the proximity of its headquarters to the site of the event, and it was not targeted in this attack,” adding that “the bombing resulted in the injury of two people, one of whom is a driver.” A taxi and the other works as a guard for one of the farms.

Khoshnaw stressed that "the missiles were launched from outside the borders and were ballistic," while he welcomed "the strong reactions against the attack."

He pointed out that "there is absolutely no truth to the presence of Israeli centers in the city," saying: "There are two explanations for not hitting the target, the first is the failure of the party that launched the missiles, or the effectiveness of the consulate's response system."

And the governor of Erbil added, "We are not a threat to any of the neighboring countries, and we will not and have not yet contacted the Iranian side to denounce, and there will certainly be communication in the coming periods regarding this."

On Sunday, the Erbil local government responded to reports that "secret Israeli headquarters" had been bombed during the latest attack on the province, while considering the matter as "attempts to distort the facts."

The mayor of Erbil, Nabiz Abdul Hamid, said in a statement to "Nass" (March 13, 2022), that "the governorate is the same as other cities and capitals in the world, with headquarters and diplomatic missions, and talking about secret headquarters, there is no presence in Erbil in any way."

Abdul Hamid stressed that "the presence of missions and consulates comes within the decisions of the constitution and the approval of the federal government," noting that "the news reported by some Iranian media that the attack targeted Israeli headquarters is nothing but an excuse and untrue talk."

He pointed out that "the attack targeted the new building of the new US Consulate, but material losses were sustained by the media and houses near the site," revealing that "two minor civilian casualties occurred, but no fatalities were recorded."

And Iranian state television announced, on Sunday, that the missile attack, which took place in Erbil at dawn today, targeted "secret Israeli bases."

In addition, the Iranian Mehr Agency, (March 13, 2022), said that "the attack targeted two centers belonging to the Israeli Mossad."

And Reuters news agency quoted Iranian state television as saying: "The missile attack, which took place in Erbil, targeted an Israeli base."

The spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament, Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Mishkini, said that "Iran has nothing to do with the bombing of Erbil with missiles," at dawn today, Sunday.

Meshkini said: "The Zionist entity is committing continuous crimes in the region, especially in Syria...The last crime also comes as a continuation of this criminal approach, but the Iranian republic's revenge against Israel will be very serious and difficult, as it will not be hidden and make them regret."

He added, "The data that we have seen so far does not enable us to confirm any role of Iran in the recent missile strikes."

And the spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee continued: “The peoples of the region are hostile to the Zionist entity and are only satisfied with uprooting its roots. The Zionist entity must know that mutual visits with some countries do not enable it to achieve its goals.. Israel must search for the reasons for the strikes it receives. Within it, and the steps it is taking in the region, and not accusing Iran of everything that is happening in the region,” according to “RT.”

On Sunday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, called on the federal government and the international community to stand diligently at the repeated attacks on Erbil, and to prevent their recurrence.

Barzani said in a statement received by "Nass", a copy of it, (March 13, 2022): "We strongly condemn the missile attack, which targeted late last night, in a cowardly, brutal and unjustified manner, the people, security and stability of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region."

He added, "Praise be to God, the attack did not cause any human damage. We express our sympathy to the beloved citizens of Erbil, who spent a difficult time in light of anxiety and anticipation. Facing challenges, threats and dangers requires from all parties of Kurdistan and its components cohesion, unity and reunification."

And Barzani indicated that "targeting Erbil in this way and repeating it is a dangerous precedent and a flagrant violation of the security, stability and sovereignty of Iraq, and it will have no results other than complicating the situation and harming the present and future of all of Iraq."

He also called on the Iraqi federal government and the international community to "stand diligently on these attacks and make every effort so that the sovereignty and stability of the country and the security and safety of its citizens are not allowed to be violated again."

The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, commented, earlier, on the recent attack on Erbil Governorate, describing its timing as "suspicious."

Saleh said in a post followed by "Nass" (March 13, 2022), that "the targeting of Erbil is a condemned terrorist crime, and its suspicious timing with signs of political détente, aims to obstruct the constitutional process by forming a capable government."

Saleh stressed "the need to stand firmly against attempts to plunge the country into chaos, and we must unite to support our security forces, consolidate the state's reference and combat outlaw terrorists."

Earlier, Representative Ahmed al-Jubouri called for an emergency parliamentary session to be held regarding the recent Erbil attack.

Al-Jubouri stated in his blog, followed by "Nass" (March 13, 2022), that " the missile attack from Iranian territory against civilian facilities in Erbil cannot be tolerated, and it requires holding an emergency session of Parliament to discuss the sinful attack and take the necessary decisions regarding it."

He added, "May there be cold and peace for our people in Erbil and everywhere in Iraq."

me_ga.php?id=34104

The Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Region had said today, Sunday, that the missile attack, which targeted several areas of Erbil, was launched from the eastern side outside the Iraqi borders towards the new building of the US Consulate in Erbil and the surrounding areas.

The Ministry of the Interior stated in a statement seen by "Nass" that "on the night of 12/13-3-2022 at one o'clock in the morning, 12 long-range ballistic missiles were launched from the east outside the Iraqi borders towards the new building of the US Consulate in Erbil and the residential civilian areas near the building. Kurdistan 24 Channel and its environs.

She added, "The attack caused material damage to buildings and homes in the area, and resulted in no casualties, except for one civilian who was slightly injured." We wish him safety and a speedy recovery.

The Interior Ministry indicated that the police and Asayish institutions have begun investigations into the attack, and the results will be announced to the public later.
