Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a government decision to grant entry visas to citizens of a number of countries at Iraqi border crossings.

A spokesman for the ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, said, "We will grant entry visas to all foreign arrivals to support the Iraqi economy."

He added, "The decision includes all arrivals from the European Union and other countries, during their arrival in the Iraqi sovereign ports, to encourage openness to the world."

Last March, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that citizens of 37 countries were exempted from entry visas to Iraq, while the decision was considered a push towards "stimulating investment."

Iraq seeks to attract investors and facilitate their entry to its lands by exempting citizens of some countries from entry visas, after the entry visa to Iraqi lands required approvals that take a long time, and may not be issued in many cases.
