A leader in the National Union: The presidential election session will fail and we will not allow the Democratic candidate to pass

{Politics: Al-Furat News} The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Sorji, suggested the failure of the election of the President of the Republic next Saturday.

Surji told Al-Furat News: "The complexity around the presidential seat has become in the Shiite political house and the insistence of the Sadrist movement and its alliance to pass the Kurdistan Democratic Party candidate."
He added, "Next Saturday's session will not succeed in electing the president," adding, "We will fall into a constitutional vacuum. According to the constitution, we will resort to early elections and an emergency government.
Sorji indicated, "Working with the forces of the coordination framework to disrupt the session, and we will not allow the passing of the Democratic candidate and the position is the right of the union."
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, set Saturday, March 26, as the date for the House of Representatives session to elect the President of the Republic.
In the midst of this decision, the two ruling parties in the Kurdistan region did not announce an agreement on one candidate to take over the presidential seat, and the two parties are still sticking to their candidates {Barham Salih and Reber Ahmed}.
While the political deadlock continues between the two sides of the political process (the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement) to unitely enter the House of Representatives, announce the Shiite bloc, the largest in number, and form the next government.

Iraq.. Al-Sadr competes with Al-Kazemi for the Prime Minister's seat

Experts: Al-Kazemi may occupy the position of Prime Minister for a second term
Experts: Al-Kazemi may occupy the position of Prime Minister for a second term

The current Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, is feeling the ongoing political dialogues and the indicator of his chances of obtaining a second term as prime minister, amid rapid changes taking place in the country's policy rooms.

The most prominent of these variables is the rapprochement of the leader of the Sadrist movement , Muqtada al-Sadr, with his archenemy, the head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki , and the nomination of Jaafar al-Sadr , Muqtada al-Sadr's cousin, to head the government, which is widely accepted in political circles.

Despite this rapprochement, the road is not paved. Jaafar al-Sadr is relatively far from the political spotlight in the country, as he takes over the duties of the Baghdad embassy in London, and the differences that began to emerge after the recent rapprochement may spoil his choice as prime minister.

In terms of the coordination framework forces and the State of Law coalition led by al-Maliki, Jaafar al-Sadr is the son of the founder of the Dawa Party, and he agrees with their vision in many respects, and they cannot refuse him. As for the Sadrist movement, even if Jaafar does not actually belong to the movement or carry out tasks as is the case with others, but because of his closeness to the family, he would be a suitable candidate.

Quick variables

The issue of al-Sadr's candidacy has become almost inevitable in the political circles, which have begun to be positioned according to this path, and their situation is dependent on the dimensions of the new prime minister.

However, a politician close to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said, "The nomination of Mr. Jaafar Al-Sadr is a political choice in which we cannot interfere, and Al-Kazemi announced a few days ago that he performed his duties with sufficient responsibility, and brought the country to safety, by holding legislative elections, in front of The issue of the second mandate, it is an assignment - if it happens - the man has the sufficient ability to manage the next stage.

The politician, who declined to be named, added to "Sky News Arabia", that "the changes in the Iraqi arena are very fast, and Al-Kazemi is acceptable to everyone as well, and the chance for a second term is good, especially since the consensus will govern the next stage," noting that "local and international acceptability as well as Regionalism has become a realistic condition for whoever assumes this sensitive position, as Iraq has turned into an arena for settling accounts, and it is necessary that someone who is good at taming these parties and keeping our country away from the imminent danger should come to this place.

Al-Kazemi met Al-Sadr last month, at his residence in the Al-Hanana area in Najaf governorate, where journalists were prevented from covering the meeting of the two parties, which lasted for more than an hour, and raised speculation about agreeing on a second term for Al-Kazemi, especially since Mashreq Abbas, political advisor to the Prime Minister, was present in Meeting.

The chest is no longer an option

Al-Kazemi has a clear rapprochement with the Sadrist movement, and he headed to this meeting, which raised questions about a "green light" to assign him once again to form the government.

Al-Kazemi's arrival to the highest position in the state stimulated his political repositioning and penetration into the political process, prompted by a number of factors that contributed to strengthening his position, during the past months, and showed his ability to manage matters in a country experiencing great political turmoil.

But political analyst Ali Al-Baydar believes that "Al-Kazemi is no longer the option of the Sadrist movement, as it was before, especially since there are variables that weakened his fortunes, such as reconciliation between the Sadrist movement, and the coordination framework, which refuses to grant Al-Kazemi a second term, in addition to some failures." The government, which weakened his popular fortunes, such as the issue of exchanging the dollar against the dinar.

Al-Baydar added, in a statement to "Sky News Arabia", that "Al-Kazemi's arrival was for a clear necessity, which is to prevent the Iraqi state from collapsing, and to direct the state towards civilian paths, and this issue also counts for him, in addition to holding early elections, and he was successful in These measures, which prompted some parties to impose a (veto) on it, as a political address, to run the country.”

According to articles I’ve read this guy Jaafar Sadr is an ex Maliki crony, yeah he didn’t go along with him on some things but that was years ago.
So Maliki and Iran have chosen not only the president but the PM as well.
I don’t know what they have promised or threatened al Sadr with but it must be pretty bad for him to allow Maliki all this air time…

Coordination framework: Dialogues with the Sadrist movement have reached good stages

Baghdad - people

On Saturday, the representative of the "Sadiquon" bloc affiliated with the Al-Fateh Alliance, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, revealed serious and positive dialogues between the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement.

Al-Baldawi said in a statement followed by "Nass" (March 19, 2022), that "the dialogues between the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement are continuing at various levels," noting that "the dialogues have reached good stages."

He added that "the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement agreed that the results of the dialogues should be far from the media and not be disclosed until the final agreement is reached."

The Al-Fateh parliamentary bloc revealed, earlier, the plans of the coordination framework regarding the upcoming benefits, while confirming that the latter is counting on the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to solve the current crisis.

The head of the bloc, MP Abbas Al-Zamili, said, in an interview conducted by our colleague Ahmed Al-Tayeb, followed by "Nass" (March 16, 2022), that "the coordinating framework will not enter the presidential election session if an agreement is not reached with the tripartite alliance."

Al-Zamili added, "The Kurdish blocs stress the importance of the agreement between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework, because they are aware of the danger of continuing these differences," noting that "the coordination framework is counting on Muqtada al-Sadr to solve this crisis."

And he continued, "If the tripartite alliance was the guarantor of achieving a quorum of 220 deputies, it would hold a session to elect the president of the republic very soon," noting that "the coordinating framework cannot neglect its alliance with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the independents, and we have constants that we are working on."

Regarding the missile attack on the city of Erbil last Sunday, Al-Zamili explained, "The coordinating framework does not view the bombing of Erbil as an opportunity for the Kurds to return to dialogue with him, and he is not satisfied with this process," noting that "the decision to strike Erbil has nothing to do with Al-Sadr's tweet."

The coordination framework and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, earlier, stressed the need to cooperate with all partners to reach an agreement that ends the current crisis.

The Coordination Framework said in a press statement that "Nass" received a copy of it, (March 14, 2022), that "the leaders of the Coordination Framework received today in the office of the President of the State of Law Coalition a delegation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headed by Pavel Talabani."

He added, "During the meeting, the overall political and security situation and the challenges facing the country were discussed, and the latest developments regarding the dialogues between the political forces to form the government were reviewed."

The participants affirmed - according to the statement - their keenness to cooperate with all partners to reach an agreement that ends the current crisis and contributes to accelerating the formation of a government of services capable of meeting the demands of the Iraqi people and maintaining security and stability in the country.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan announced, earlier, its readiness to attend the presidential election session scheduled for March 26, while indicating that boycotting the session is not a solution.

Representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Aso Faridoun, said in a statement to the official channel, followed by "Nass", (March 15, 2022), "We in the Patriotic Union believe that the current political blockage cannot be removed, and we cannot find a solution, unless there is a Kurdish agreement." - Kurdish, and Shiite - Shiite, in order to develop a future map for the administration of Iraq.

He added, "The period following the elections, the picture became clear that without a comprehensive political agreement, it is not possible to pass to the next stage, especially with regard to the presidency, and that none of the political parties was able to achieve a quorum."

He continued, "It is not possible to have an agreement within the Kurdish House regarding the position of the Presidency of the Republic, and this is a reality, because the three positions are the property of the Iraqi people, and as for the prevailing custom in this regard, it needs the support of other political parties."

Fereydoun answered the question, "Are you going to boycott the session to disrupt the quorum?", saying: "Blocking is not a solution, and I hope that we do not go to disrupt the session, we will attend the session to elect the president of the republic, because if the political blockage continues in the current form, there will be a necessity for re-elections."

He pointed out that "October produced new results for the elections, and I repeat the disruption is not a solution to the political blockage, and we will be embarrassed, and we hope that there will be a political agreement."

Earlier, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi announced the date for holding the presidential election session.

The media office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated in a statement, of which "Nass" received a copy, on March 15, 2022, that "the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, has set the date for the session to elect the president of the republic next week."

The statement added, "It was decided to set Saturday, March 26, as the date for the parliament session to elect the president of the republic."

Shafaq News/ The coordination framework, which brings together Shiite political forces, revealed today, Saturday, support for resolving his decision to participate in the parliament session devoted to voting on the new president of the republic.

The leader in the framework, MP Ahmed Al-Moussawi, told Shafak News Agency; "The forces of the coordinating framework have not made up their minds until this moment in participating in the parliament session devoted to voting on the new president of the republic, and this matter depends on negotiations and dialogues with the Sadrist movement."

Al-Moussawi indicated that "in the event that there is a final agreement with the Sadrist movement on the process of forming the new government, the forces of the coordination framework will participate in the session.

The Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, announced on March 15 that "it was decided to set Saturday, corresponding to March 26, as the date for the parliament session to elect the president of the republic."

Earlier, the Iraqi Council of Representatives announced the names of 40 candidates for the presidency.

The council noted the exclusion of five candidates, one of whom is covered by the accountability and justice procedures, and the other four for reasons related to their university degrees.

Shafaq News / The Sovereignty Alliance, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, confirmed on Saturday that the "Triple" Alliance to Save the Nation owns the candidates for the position of President of the Republic and Prime Minister, while noting that the number of deputies of the coalition exceeds 180.

The leader of the coalition, MP Raad Al-Dahlaki, told Shafak News Agency, "The Alliance to Save a Nation, which includes (the Sadrist bloc, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and the Sovereignty), will be announced in an official conference, before the presidential election session."

Al-Dahlaki added, "The coalition is, in principle, on the ground, integrated, and has a platform, program and a clear vision for forming the next government."

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, seeks, through the tripartite alliance, to form a national majority government, while stressing the exclusion of the "State of Law" coalition led by al-Maliki, but the rest of the Shiite forces within the "coordinating framework" reject this and demand a consensual government in which all political forces in Parliament participate. Similar to previous courses.

Shafaq News/ An informed political source revealed, on Saturday, that the reasons for stopping the negotiations between the coordination framework and the Sadrist bloc lie in the intersection between the two parties on five points of contention between them, while another source indicated that there is a "surprise" that will be announced before the presidential nomination session.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, "The faltering or halting of negotiations between the coordination framework and the Sadrist bloc represented by its leader Muqtada al-Sadr is due to the difference of the two parties on five points, as the Sadrist bloc submitted to the framework 12 paragraphs as a condition for the alliance, and most of them were approved by the framework."

He pointed out that "the framework, in turn, presented a paper containing 17 paragraphs, the two sides intersected on five of them, including not prejudice to the popular mobilization or its restructuring, and splitting the coordination framework in the sense of polarizing part of the framework and not as a whole, and also dividing the ministerial appointment between the two sides equally, meaning that the Shiite house has 12 A ministry besides the prime minister, while the Sadrist bloc aspires to seven ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior, and the latter is the main point of contention, as well as the position of the prime minister, fighting corruption away from personal targeting and assigning the matter to the judiciary to decide on that.

And the source indicated that "some mediators from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Alliance of Sovereignty took it upon themselves to dissolve the dispute between the two Shiite poles and re-negotiations between them directly prior to the naming session of the President of the Republic scheduled to be held next Saturday."

He continued, "According to the information, both parties are conservative and secretive about their internal movement, and this may be a dangerous indication that all Shiite components have popular bases awaiting the announcement of the alliance between the framework and al-Sadr and otherwise, that is, if we reach the point of zero or no return, the street may be moved, which means going to chaos." We hope that does not happen."

On the other hand, a source familiar with the movement in Al-Hanana, Al-Sadr's residence in Najaf governorate, told Shafaq News Agency, "The leader of the Sadrist movement insists on his candidate for prime minister (Jaafar Al-Sadr) with the guarantee of his passing by the majority (the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Massoud Barzani, the Sovereignty Alliance led by Khamis al-Khanjar, part of the framework, and independent representatives).

He pointed out that "there is a surprise that will be announced before the parliament session to name the president of the republic."

Earlier today, the leader in the coordination framework, MP Ahmed Al-Moussawi, revealed to Shafak News Agency; "The forces of the coordinating framework have not made up their minds until this moment regarding participation in the parliament session devoted to voting on the new president of the republic, and this matter depends on negotiations and dialogues with the Sadrist movement."

And he indicated that "in the event that there is a final agreement with the Sadrist movement on the process of forming the new government, the forces of the coordination framework will participate in the session.

The fate of the prospective government is still subject to an agreement that sometimes looms in the horizon of bilateral meetings between the coordination framework and the Sadrist bloc, and sometimes it seems out of reach because of the many differences between the two parties.

Shafaq News/ The coordinating framework, which includes Shiite political forces, set today, Sunday, a prerequisite before submitting the candidacy of Jaafar al-Sadr, formally, for prime minister during the next stage.

The leader in the framework, Aid al-Hilali, told Shafaq News Agency, "The nomination of Jaafar al-Sadr will not take place before it is agreed to announce the largest bloc between the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement, and after this matter, the name of the prime ministerial candidate will be agreed upon."

Al-Hilali indicated that "Jaafar al-Sadr is among the names strongly proposed to take over the prime ministership during the next stage, but it is not the only name, as there are other candidates competing for this position, and this matter must be decided by the largest bloc, and for this there is no decision to choose any name without deciding a name." Officially the biggest block.

Shafaq News/ A source in the Shiite coordination framework revealed, on Monday, the intention of a delegation from the framework to visit Najaf and meet with the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr within 72 hours.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, "A delegation from the coordination framework headed by the head of the Al-Fateh Alliance Hadi Al-Amiri will go within the next 72 hours to Najaf to meet Muqtada Al-Sadr."

He pointed out that "the delegation will discuss with al-Sadr the reality of next Saturday's session to elect the president of the republic and assign an agreed upon figure within the Shiite house to form the next government."

An informed political source told Shafaq News Agency on Sunday that "the prominent political alliances that control the flow of the political scene and define their spheres of influence will hold separate deliberative meetings tomorrow to reach realistic solutions that draw a map that determines the paths out of the current crisis and in a manner that preserves each component's political weight and electoral entitlement." .

The source added, "The Sovereignty Alliance held a deliberative meeting this evening on the developments of the political scene, in addition to discussing some proposals for possible solutions to bring the parties together."

According to the source, it is likely that the coordination framework will hold its consultative meeting tomorrow, in the presence of all its leaders, to reach compromise solutions that satisfy the other party (the Sadrist movement), that is, to choose a consensual formula for the five points of contention and to resolve the knot of fragmentation in the Shiite house.

Shafak News/ The political circles are awaiting the resumption of the deliberative meetings of alliances and forces, in order to find realistic solutions to get out of the political blockage and complete the rest of the constitutional entitlements.

The active political forces had held separate meetings during the past, which were dominated by the nature of secrecy, but the agenda of the meeting was almost clear, and it was to discuss the possibility of resolving the file of choosing a president of the republic, assigning a prime minister, and moving forward to form the new government.

This comes after the lapse of about six months since the holding of the legislative elections, which caused a state of political impasse, especially after the desire of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to form a government of a "national majority", which has not been familiar with the political scene since 2005.

An informed political source told Shafak News Agency, "The prominent political alliances that control the flow of the political scene and determine their areas of influence will hold separate deliberative meetings tomorrow to reach realistic solutions that draw a map that determines the paths out of the current crisis and in a manner that preserves each component's political weight and electoral entitlement."

The points on Thursday are “not to prejudice or restructure the Popular Mobilization, and to divide the coordination framework, meaning polarizing part of the framework, not the whole, and dividing the ministerial appointment between the two sides equally, meaning that the Shiite house has 12 ministries besides the prime minister, while the Sadrist bloc aspires to seven ministries, including The Ministry of the Interior and the latter is the main point of contention, as well as the position of the Prime Minister, fighting corruption away from personal targeting, and assigning the matter to the judiciary to decide on this.

According to the source, the available information confirms that "the Sadrist bloc, in turn, continues to hold its consultative meetings amid a severe blackout, and this indicates their quest to reach realistic solutions as well."
