Shafaq News/ Head of the Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al Ishaq said on the Iranian side that the inter-trade volume has recorded a growth of 17 percent since the beginning of the Iranian fiscal year on March 21, 2021 until now.

The official Iranian news agency Fars quoted Al Ishaq as saying that "Iran has a $20 billion commercial contract with Iraq, which is not unlikely to be achieved," without going into the details of this contract.

He also said that today officially we have touched 13 to 14 billion dollars in trade exchange, and this year it has grown by 17 percent.

He stressed that Iraq, after China, ranks second in terms of the volume of economic relations with Iran.

This came during a meeting held by the Iranian official with a delegation from Kirkuk province, according to the agency.

Al Ishaq noted the pivotal role of Kirkuk, which he considered "the heart of Iraq" and that it can contribute to communication with inside Iraq and Syria, and enjoys an excellent position in terms of industry, oil, energy, agriculture and transit.

An Iranian commercial and industrial delegation is visiting Iraq today, Sunday, at the invitation of the Iraqi side, to discuss strengthening cooperation in a number of fields, according to a statement by the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The statement said that a 40-member commercial delegation from the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture is scheduled to visit Iraq, headed by Gholam Hussein Shafei, President of the Chamber, and at the official invitation of Abdul Razzaq Al-Zuhairi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce.

During its three-day stay in Iraq, the Iranian delegation will discuss the foundations for strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Iranian private sector leaders are scheduled to visit three Iraqi cities: Baghdad, Karbala and Najaf.

 

The head of the Iranian delegation will hold meetings with some Iraqi ministers, including the ministers of trade and transport, as well as activists from the private sector.

In conjunction with the attendance of the Iranian delegation to Baghdad, the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce is scheduled to host the Iraqi-Iranian Business Forum. Businessmen from the two countries are also scheduled to hold a number of meetings.

Two other trade forums are also scheduled to be held in Karbala and Najaf, where economic operators from Iran and Iraq will explore ways to enhance cooperation, the statement says.

During a visit by an Iraqi trade delegation to the Iranian Chamber of Commerce in early December, both sides stressed that pursuing $20 billion in bilateral trade between the two countries is not a far-fetched goal.

And the Iranian Fars news agency quoted Purabrahimi as saying today, Monday, about the upcoming visit of the Iranian parliamentary delegation: This 3-day visit includes meetings with the Ministers of Trade, Transport and Communications, the President of the Association of Chambers of Commerce and the Chairman of the Iraqi National Investments Committee.

He added, "The aim of the visit is to raise the level of economic cooperation between the two countries. It was also decided to sign a document of understanding to establish a special committee to resolve commercial disputes between the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, as well as to participate in the Forum of the Association of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce in Baghdad and to participate in the trade forums in Holy Karbala and Najaf." Ashraf".

It is noteworthy that Iranian private sector companies announced their readiness to cooperate with the Iraqi public and private sectors to exchange experiences in the field of energy and build renewable energy plants, including wind and solar energy to generate electricity.

It is also possible for Iran and Iraq to cooperate in joint projects in the fields of medicines and medical equipment.

{Local: Al Furat News} The Border Ports Authority stressed, on Tuesday, during a joint meeting with the delegation of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the necessity of closing the ports and unofficial crossings because they are a safe passage for prohibited materials and target Iraqi economic security.

And the authority's media said in a statement that {Euphrates News} received a copy of it, that "the latter welcomed the Iranian delegation, and the meeting's agenda was reviewed, which included important topics and proposed solutions to all obstacles facing the progress of the trade exchange process at the common border crossings between the two countries." 

The statement added, "The most prominent paragraphs discussed are the activation of the Diwani Order Committee 194 of 2019, which dealt with most issues related to the commercial process between the two countries, and the activation of international transport (transit) and the coordination of working hours between neighboring ports."

He continued, "The meeting focused on combating drug smuggling and preventing the entry of prohibited items from import in order to protect the Iraqi local product, as it was agreed to coordinate, exchange information, and intensify audits and inspections to prevent the passage of these materials harmful to the health and security of citizens." 

He pointed out that "the agenda included a proposal to transfer the trade exchange arenas to the Iraqi side in order to employ Iraqi manpower and create job opportunities for the unemployed, and in principle it was agreed to hold the meeting of the aforementioned committee on 3/1/2022 due to its importance in correcting the reality of many obstacles." facing workflow. 

At the conclusion of the meeting, the head of the commission renewed the welcome of the guests, wishing to maintain communication through official channels to avoid any interruption or disruption of work.

Iraq and Iran sign MoU on Arbitration

Tehran and Baghdad have reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint arbitration center.

The head of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, Abdul Razzaq al-Zuhairi, is quoted as saying that the MoU can remove the obstacles that hinder cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was finalised at a Joint Economic and Trade Conference for the Iranian and Iraqi chambers of commerce, which was attended by senior officials from both sides.
