Iraq witnessed frequent bombings, and the authorities say that the security forces are "alert" Iraq witnessed frequent bombings, and the authorities say that the security forces are "alert"

Since last Friday, Iraq has witnessed successive security events, most of which are represented by bombings that targeted economic centers and political headquarters, but the deadliest event was the killing of a number of fishermen at the hands of ISIS militants, after they were kidnapped from Samarra, in the Iraqi Salah al-Din Governorate.

The five fishermen were kidnapped while they were fishing in the Tigris River in the city of Samarra on Sunday, according to one of them, who is the only survivor.

The survivor told Al-Hurra reporter that the fishermen were all from one family, and that he managed to escape, while the rest were killed, without giving further details.

ISIS constantly targets fishermen in relatively remote areas. A lieutenant-colonel in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and fishermen who were with him at the end of last December were killed in Hamrin, Diyala Governorate, and fishermen in Amerli, Salah al-Din Governorate, last July.

The Samarra incident comes one day after targeting the Iraqi Balad Air Base, also in Salah al-Din Governorate, with three drones that "escaped" after the base's protection elements opened fire on it.

It is not yet known who is behind the "enemy planes", as described by the statement of the Iraqi Security Media Cell, but drone attacks have become a frequent thing in the country.

A week of explosive devices

Since Friday, multiple explosions rocked party headquarters in Baghdad, and extended to include shops and a bank as well, killing a number of wounded.

An explosion, "the nature of which is unknown," took place in the Adhamiya area of Baghdad, on Friday, according to the correspondent of Al-Hurra channel.

The explosion targeted the headquarters of the "Progress" party headed by the newly elected Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi.

Local media revealed a second explosion targeting the headquarters of the "Azm" coalition led by Khamis al-Khanjar, in the Yarmouk area.

The information indicates that the headquarters was targeted by a "remote drone", and the two incidents occurred a day after a girl and a woman were injured, after a number of missiles fell on the Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad.

The house of the representative of the Progress Alliance, Abdul Karim Al-Abtan, in the Al-Sidiya area, south of Baghdad, was also targeted with a hand grenade.

These bombings come while Iraq is still experiencing the repercussions of the early elections on the tenth of October, and witnessed chapters of violence following the announcement of its results.

A woman and a child were injured when an explosive device exploded targeting a convoy of "logistical support" without causing damage to the convoy, according to the local Iraqi " Nas News " agency , which published pictures of the accident.

On Sunday evening, two bombs targeted the headquarters of Cihan Bank in the Karrada district of the Iraqi capital, and a shop selling alcoholic beverages in the same area, according to the Iraqi security authorities.

The Security Media Cell said that it would "be very close" to the perpetrators, and vowed to arrest them "sooner rather than later."

One of the bank's protection elements, one of the companies of the "Cihan" group, which owns universities and insurance companies in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, was wounded.

Political-security tension

The Iraqi expert in security affairs, Muhammad al-Maamouri, told Al-Hurra that "it is difficult to differentiate between the incidents of targeting the political headquarters of Sunni blocs, the incidents of targeting representatives of those blocs, and the targeting of Kurdish economic interests."

Al-Maamouri adds that "the successive bombings came after the armed groups' threats of difficult days for Iraq," stressing that "these may be the difficult days."

Nevertheless, Al-Mamouri says that "political competition has always been linked to security crises in the country."

He explains that "the balance of power has changed, and whoever carries out the bombings will not risk becoming a criminal force openly, which threatens his chances of remaining in decision-making positions."

A circulating picture of the effects of one of the two attacks A circulating picture of the effects of one of the two attacks

The Iraqi security authorities said, on Sunday, that they are "very close" to the perpetrators of two explosions in the Karrada area, in the center of the capital, Baghdad.

A statement by the Iraqi Security Media Cell said that the authorities "carried out a preliminary analysis of the two incidents and an intersection of the available information," adding that "the just punishment of the perpetrators will be sooner rather than later."

Two explosive devices, which the Security Media Cell said were "sound," exploded in the Karrada area of Baghdad, and a previous security statement said that one of them exploded in front of the National Bank of Cihan, and the second in front of a "liquor store."

The media cell's statement described the two acts as "cowardly acts that aim to destabilize security and stability and confuse the cards."

The recent two explosions come days after similar incidents were repeated targeting the headquarters and homes of Iraqi politicians in the capital, Baghdad, but it is not yet known whether these events are linked.
