Air Defenses Gun Down Inbound Rockets Over US' Baghdad Embassy

C-RAM air defenses streak across the skies over Baghdad as they intercept rockets launched at the US embassy inside the Green Zone on January 13, 2022. - Sputnik International, 1920, 13.01.2022

Several inbound rockets were detected in the Green Zone on Thursday evening, where the US embassy in Baghdad is located.
At least two rockets were fired at the US embassy in central Baghdad, both of which were shot down without causing casualties or damage, according to Iraq military officials.
Footage posted online purported to capture the intercept. The video shows a C-RAM air defense system firing a blazing stream of bullets at the projectiles.

Another video shows an explosion on the ground which seems to be caused by the rocket plummeting to the ground, challenging official reports that the attack caused not damage.

According to a report by OSINT Twitter account Aurora Intel, the rocket landed on Al Elaf School.

The heavily fortified Green Zone dates to the US occupation of Iraq in the 2000s, when US forces responsible for overthrown Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein faced a powerful domestic insurgency. While the vast majority of US troops have left Iraq, those that remain are a reminder of the powerful influence Washington continues to exert over Iraqi politics, and the embassy remains a favorite target for Iraqi militias angry at the US presence.

Time for Al-Sadr to bring back his militia and run these Iranian terrorist back to their homeland. I’m hoping he’s smart enough to know the US troops are not his problem.
Iraq is in a very important time frame on which direction the new government will go.

I hope for our sake he chooses wise…

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, commented, on Thursday, on the targeting of the US embassy in Baghdad, noting that "to silence the voices of violence that endanger the people and the state and destabilize security."

Al-Sadr wrote in a tweet on "Twitter" today, (January 13, 2022), that "there are parties claiming resistance... and claiming to strike the US embassy in the Green Zone, and they have injured civilians, children and women and destroyed the edifices of science and education."

He added: "The people should not be deceived by such movements. They are doing this in order to delay the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq in order for them to have an excuse to use weapons, and the fate of the people remains in their hands. There is no existence for them without the presence of the occupier."

Al-Sadr continued: "In order to obstruct our path by removing him through the Security Council and the United Nations and by international means and under penalty of law."

He concluded: "Long live the people... and let the voices of violence that endanger the people and the state and destabilize security be silenced."

And earlier this evening, Thursday, the Security Media Cell announced that a girl and a woman were wounded in an attack by a number of missiles launched from the Dora area on the Green Zone.

UTV - Baghdad

The New York Times quoted Iraqi officials as saying that Washington had sent a warning to Tehran via Baghdad about the attacks on the US embassy in Iraq.

The officials said that the United States sent messages through Iraq to Iran warning that it would respond if there were further attacks, according to the newspaper.

For his part, US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said that a "relatively small number" of missiles hit the Green Zone, indicating that US officials were still assessing the damage.

Kirby added, "When we decide to respond, we will choose the appropriate time and place," noting that the US administration is aware that "these attacks continue, and they are taken seriously."

A group of missiles fell on the Green Zone on Thursday night, while the US embassy sounded sirens and activated the C-RAM anti-air attack system.

The Security Media Cell said in a statement that the missiles were launched from the Dora area, south of Baghdad, and one of them fell on a school inside the Green Zone, explaining that the attack resulted in the injury of a girl and a woman.

"Targeting diplomatic missions and endangering civilians is a criminal terrorist act and a blow to Iraq's interests and its international reputation," Barham Salih, the President of the Republic, said on Twitter.

Saleh added, "Such actions are condemned, and their timing aims to obstruct the constitutional national entitlements by forming a government we want capable of protecting sovereignty and the security of citizens... We must stand united firmly against these crimes."

For his part, Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement, said that "there are parties claiming resistance and striking the American embassy in the Green Zone, and they have injured civilians, children and women and destroyed the edifices of science and education."

Al-Sadr added, "The people should not be deceived by such movements. They are doing this in order to delay the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq in order for them to have an excuse to use weapons and the fate of the people remains in their hands, as there is no existence for them without the presence of the occupier."

Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Wisdom Movement, said that “bombing the Green Zone, endangering the lives and properties of civilians, and targeting diplomatic missions inside it, is a condemned and reprehensible act that would erode the prestige of the state and destabilize its image before world public opinion.”

For his part, Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Al-Fateh Alliance, said, "We strongly condemn the unjustified attacks on the Green Zone and the headquarters of political parties," calling on the security services to carry out their duties regarding the attacks.

Abu Ali al-Askari, the security official of the Hezbollah Brigades, said, "The reckless firing of rockets into populated areas under the pretext of targeting the US embassy is nothing but a deliberate targeting of innocent civilians."

Al-Askari added, "Gangs linked to the UAE and Britain are behind this crime, which came in response to the state ruling issued by the Federal Supreme Court."

I'm curious and apparently little slack what does that mean..and GM everyone

What did my comment mean? If that is the question, my comment was sarcastic. Attacks on our embassy were not done by "gangs" associated with Britain. The attacks are from Iran and their gangs, as they always have been.

Good morning!
