Political meetings and consultations continue in Iraq after the tumultuous session of the new parliament yesterday, in which the Speaker and his two deputies were elected after arguments and controversies.

With the head of the "Progress" coalition, Muhammad al-Halbousi, managed to maintain his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives for two consecutive terms, which is what is happening for the first time in the era after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime, attention is turning to the remaining two presidencies, namely the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Minister.

According to observers, the election of Al-Halbousi sent a positive signal to both the President of the Republic, Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, with the possibility of a “triple veto” circulating in the post-election periods, meaning that none of the three presidents was renewed. There are those who read in the recent developments after yesterday's session an opposite trend, which may lead to the retention of the three presidents in their positions, especially since the recent statements of the leader of the "Sadr movement" Muqtada al-Sadr confirm his continuation of the option of confrontation with the forces allied to Iran, which mainly reserve a second term. for Al-Kazemi.

And while the most prominent confrontation in the Shiite arena is between al-Sadr and his old rival, former Prime Minister and leader of the “State of Law Coalition” Nuri al-Maliki, the margins of maneuvering for both Al-Kazemi and Saleh must pass with Shiite forces allied to the owners, but it is possible to engage with them in ministerial bargains that persuade them to engage in Efforts to facilitate the election of the President of the Republic and then nominate a Prime Minister to form the new government.

In this context, Al-Kazemi’s visit comes today, Monday, to the leader of the “Al-Fateh” coalition, Hadi Al-Amiri, the most prominent loser in the elections, and the subsequent visits that include other figures from the “coordinating framework” and others, in the context of preparing the atmosphere to ensure a second term for the prime minister, in light of the assurances Al-Kazemi sends Regarding the Iraqi-American relations, and other files that anger the "state forces" about it.

As for the presidency, Al-Nahar Al-Arabi sources report that Barham Salih is so far the candidate of his National Union party. In the event that his rival, the "Kurdistan Democratic Party", decides to take the position in the context of the Kurdish rotation, his candidates are Hoshyar Zebari, Fouad Hussein, and Fadel Mirani.
