The Pentagon confirmed, on Wednesday, that the American forces will remain in Iraq after the end of combat operations on December 31, despite the warnings of the Iraqi resistance factions.

In its report, Newsweek magazine quoted a Pentagon spokeswoman and Commander in the US Navy, Jessica McNulty, as saying that "the position of the United States has not changed, and that there is no fully organized exit."

And she added, "The United States will fulfill the commitments it made during the strategic dialogue between the United States and Iraq in July 2021, including the absence of American forces with a combat role by the end of the year," noting that "American forces will remain in Iraq, at the invitation of the Government of Iraq." , to provide advice, assistance and exchange of intelligence information to support the Iraqi security forces in the campaign against ISIS,” according to her claim.

And the report indicated that "Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressed similar sentiments over the weekend during a meeting in the Bahraini capital, Manama, with Iraqi Defense Minister Juma'a Inad Saadoun al-Jubouri, where the Pentagon commander confirmed that "there will be no American forces with a combat role before the end of the year." According to the Ministry of Defense.

The report stated that, “With less than a month and a half remaining in the year, a group of Iraqi factions known as the Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee published a letter expressing its disappointment at the lack of the American military withdrawal. The letter expressed doubts about the original commitment, noting that after four Almost months, “The Coordination has not yet witnessed any manifestations of withdrawal, although only 42 days separate us from 12/31/2021.”

information / special

The Al-Fateh Alliance considered, on Saturday, that the agreement that Al-Kazemi signed with Biden regarding the presence of the occupation forces in Iraq is a play that was played by the people.

A member of the coalition, Hamid al-Moussawi, said in a statement to the "Information" agency, that "the bases inhabited by the American forces put the government in front of a great challenge, which is either implementing the people's decision and removing the American forces from it, or disregarding those demands and parliament's decisions."

He pointed out that “what the New York Times described as a play, and it is really so, as the agreement signed between Al-Kazemi and Biden is nothing but a representation of the Iraqi people, absorbing anger, and then prolonging the life of the occupation in the country.”

He pointed out that "the government is required to prove its credibility with the American withdrawals, to show the forces present in those bases, whether they are Iraqi or American, and not to defraud the people."

It is noteworthy that the resistance factions threatened to target the occupation forces at the end of this year if they did not comply with the parliament's decision and the will of the Iraqi people to leave the country.

I would think it would be safer for Iraq if they had kind of rate change while US troops were there, prevent any invasion from Iran or ISIS

Wasn’t it the last time the UN was in Iraq their building was bombed and they pulled out so fast all you saw was skid marks and dust.

The UN in Iraq ??? Don’t make me laugh....ISIS will be back in Iraq in force faster that crap through a goose.

Not to mention their track record in some African nations of rape, murder, sex trafficking of children, money laundering & rape. That’s right I mentioned rape twice....one of their favorite things to do.

No doubt there are many honorable troops. I salute your hard work & sacrifice.

Ridiculously poor leadership ( & corrupt ) in many of their Units is the tip of the iceberg. They need to clean house.... and do something about all those Tactical Vehicles painted WHITE !!!

When we invaded the wrong country back in 2003 , the sovereignty held by Iraq was destroyed . In 2004 a transfer of sovereignty was given back to Iraq , ending US occupation . But not really, because most responsibilities  are still handled by multinational forces in Iraq . Iraq cannot be a fully sovereign nation while still occupied . We have a few troops over there , but the US is mostly there for technical  and defense support system">support . But we are still there  ,also still in Germany and Vietnam . I would imagine that Iraq has a love/hate  feeling over  this support system">support , as does Germany and Vietnam . How does a country become fully sovereign while still having foreign troops and support system">support in country? Through negotiations like this !

I guess, per your criteria, Germany and South Korea (or any other nation that holds US troops like Japan and the Philippines or even in the ME like the KSA et cetera) cannot be fully sovereign nations either. Quite honestly, the United States having bases on foreign soil serves in the best interest of the US due to strategic deployments and boots on the ground initiatives. Boot on the ground initiatives would be like gathering needed intelligence which requires in-person relationships and contacts. Thanks to Biden we have an intelligence blackout in Afghanistan and rely only on what is being reported to us. Whether that info is true or false or even credible we cannot ascertain that unless we have boots on the ground. Both World Wars, especially WWII, taught the United States a valuable lesson. That lesson was we cannot be isolationists in an ever contracting world. And yes the world was contracting before WWII with the advent of faster communications and faster transportation, the world was shrinking, albeit not as it is today. Even still the world is a much smaller place than it was before WWII and that means the United States cannot operate in a vacuum of isolationism. The United States does not "occupy" Germany. The United States does not "occupy" the Philippines. Both considered "sovereign nations". The United States does not "occupy" any foreign soil. Occupation means without consent. At this time, the United States has consent for every single base that is in foreign lands.

The word "occupy" was derived from the unsuccessful attempt to lay at the the foot of the United States as a colonizing nation.  The United States has never colonized any country, nor will it ever. In this context the meaning of the word "occupy" does not mean to reside in a space. It has a negative connotation just like colonization has a negative connotation. The history of the word "occupy" in its modern meaning actually descends from the Israeli conflict when the Arab nations tried to destroy Israel and Israel basically kicked their butts and conquered the land. Since then the PLA and others have maintained it was palestinkian land and Israel was the "occupiers" of their land.  That is the modern use of the word. But the Arabs, mostly Bedouins, have claimed Israel as their own as far back as the 7th century because some dude, who was obsessed with a little girl he married at the age of 14, ascended, from a place he had never been to, except he claims he went their in a dream, to the land of milk and honey belonging to his magical sky fairy.

The United States does not "occupy" Iraq.  However, Iraq is still under sanctions from their occupation of Kuwait. The troops in Iraq serve a purpose, both strategic and humanitarian. Like they served a purpose in Japan and Germany after WWII. It took Germany 50 years for reconstruction. It took the United States many many years after the Civil War to reconstruct the South (some say the South has never fully recovered). The United States cannot live in a bubble of isolationism.

The Joint Operations Command confirmed, earlier, the end of the presence of the military combat forces of the international coalition at the end of this year, while it talked about the continuous work in four areas with the international coalition after the end of its presence in Iraq.

The spokesman for the leadership, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, said in a statement to the official agency that was followed by "Nass" (November 6, 2021), that "the presence of foreign combat forces will end at the end of this year, of which only a few remain."

He added, "Cooperation with the international coalition continues in the field of advice, intelligence information, training and armament."

He pointed out that "the presence of the international coalition in Iraq is for the purpose of consulting, training, and intelligence and security information that contributes to the pursuit and pursuit of terrorist gangs."

He explained that "the security forces are doing their best in following up and prosecuting organized crime gangs," stressing that "there is great work being done by the Ministry of Interior and Intelligence, the National Security Apparatus, and Military and Security Intelligence, to follow up and prosecute ISIS terrorist gangs."

He continued, "The citizen's cooperation in this field is very important, by providing the security authorities with the presence of ISIS terrorist gangs, which contribute and help in eliminating organized crime."

He pointed out that "there is a great deal of work to set up cameras in all regions, to follow up on wanted persons and arrest them, in addition to activating the security intelligence effort and intensifying sources, and this is what all security services are working on."

For his part, Hussein Allawi, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Security Affairs, spoke earlier about the latest developments in the US withdrawal from Iraq, after withdrawing more than 2,100 shipments of US military equipment.

Allawi said in a statement to the official channel, followed by "Nass", (November 4, 2021): "This move is considered a great success for the Al-Kazemi government, which is that we reach these important historical moments."

He added that "the evacuation came in implementation of an agreement promised by US President Joe Biden, which is that combat forces will not remain in Iraq."

He continued, "The American role will turn into a non-combat role, and the role of the international coalition mission will be to empower and train Iraqi forces."

And he stated, "There were no American combat tanks on the ground in the battles against ISIS, but the international coalition had a role in training and targeting terrorist sites from the air."

He added, "The US leadership has reduced the US military representation in Iraq from the rank of team to a brigade, and the next task for the international coalition is to advise and train the Iraqi armed forces, not a combat role."

The Joint Operations Command announced, earlier, the evacuation of more than 2,100 shipments of American military equipment from Iraq, while it indicated that the international coalition had delivered more than 1,800 armed armored vehicles, cranes and water tankers to the Iraqi forces.

A statement of the leadership, a copy of which was received by “NAS” (November 4, 2021), stated that “National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji hosted today in Baghdad a meeting between the Iraqi Military Technical Committee headed by the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, First Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shamri and its counterpart in the coalition forces. Headed by the Commander of Inherent Resolve Operations Forces in Iraq, Major General John Brennan, and in the presence of his deputy, Brigadier General Richard Bell (UK) and Director of the Inter-Agency and Civil Environment Department, Brigadier General Vincent Coste (France), noting that "the meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army and weapons commanders ( Land - Air - Air Defense - Army Aviation - Naval Force), the Director of Military Intelligence and the representative of the Ministry of Peshmerga, who gave a summary of their operations and plans to work with the coalition forces after moving to the role of advice, assistance and empowerment.

The statement added that, "Within the framework of the technical security talks, discussions continued on plans that would reach the stage where there are no international coalition forces operating in Iraq with a combat role."

The parties indicated, according to the statement, "the process of evacuating more than 2,100 shipments of military equipment from Iraq, within the framework of the continuous transition of the security relationship with the coalition forces to an advisory and non-combat role," stressing their "commitment to the ongoing partnership between the Iraqi security forces and the coalition."

The parties identified how the coalition will continue to support the Iraqi security forces through its role in advice, assistance and empowerment, and agreed to re-evaluate the progress made in their relationship on a quarterly basis, noting "the successful transfer of ownership of equipment to the Iraqi side during the past months, which included more than 1,800 between Armed armored wheels, cranes, water tanks and other vehicles, which contributed to increasing the mobility of the Iraqi security forces and enabling them to protect Iraqi citizens from ISIS.”

The Iraqi government affirmed, according to the statement, "its commitment once again to protect the members of the international coalition who provide advice, assistance and empowerment to the Iraqi security forces," explaining that "the members of the coalition are present at the invitation of Iraq in accordance with Iraqi sovereignty and international laws and norms."

The statement pointed out that "the parties agreed to continue holding their regular sessions through future meetings with the Iraqi Security Coordination Group for the purpose of completing the discussion of the remaining steps to complete the transition of the coalition forces to the non-combat role by the time specified for it at the end of this year."

An American report suggests increasing US forces to spare Iraq and the world an “Iranian catastrophe”

1

The US “International Policy Digest” website concluded that Iraq is facing a situation similar to what it faced in Afghanistan recently, as it is not ready for the withdrawal of US forces from it, and if this withdrawal occurs, the world is threatened with facing a new “disaster.”

And the beginning of the report of the American website; Afghanistan was not ready for a US military withdrawal, and now minorities face grave dangers, terrorism is growing, and many Afghans are now facing displacement and extreme poverty.

Similarly, the report considered that Iraq will face growing pressures and threats from Iran and extremist groups, as soon as America withdraws its remaining 2,500 forces by the end of 2021.

Therefore, the report considers that, instead of withdrawing from Iraq, the United States should increase the number of personnel of the American force stationed in Iraq to 3,500 until the end of 2022, explaining that “the increase in the size of the forces will reduce the potential for security threats, and promote the rebuilding of the Iraqi military forces, It increases the security of Iraqi citizens.”

The report stated; "The US-Iraqi relations are important for the stability of the Middle East," referring to Washington that helped Iraq fight ISIS, and provided diplomatic, economic and political support to help Iraq achieve stability. Therefore, the withdrawal of the United States will make Iraq more vulnerable to extremist attacks by militants of the Popular Mobilization Forces Funded by Iran, which will encourage to undermine the government. "Iran will enhance its influence and military presence throughout Iraq," he added.

The report pointed out that increasing the size of the US force in Iraq to 3,500 by the end of 2022 will reduce security threats, as there are internal threats due to the targeting of the Iraqi government officials and citizens by the Popular Mobilization Groups, and there are existing external threats from the increasing Iranian pressure, and its bets on expanding influence Shiites in Iraq.

He added that the US military presence can help the Iraqi forces maintain stability throughout the country, and the increase in the number of US forces can contribute to rebuilding and stabilizing the Iraqi army, which has been weakened since it began its battle with ISIS, and is currently unable to confront internal and external threats. alone.

However, the report considered that Iraq cannot, and should not, continue to depend on the United States, adding that by helping to rebuild and cohesive Iraqi forces now, the United States would be able to withdraw early with full confidence that the Iraqi army would be able to defend the country.

However, according to the report, if the United States withdraws completely by the end of 2021, "the Iraqi army will collapse."

He added that the increase in the number of the American force will provide additional protection for Iraqi citizens who are at risk of ground and air attacks, and that the American forces have a greater ability to use modern technology to monitor and deter attacks targeting various locations throughout Iraq, and therefore the possibility of losing civilian lives will likely be reduced.

In addition, the report pointed out that the increase in the number of US forces stationed in Iraq, will make internal and external groups interpret this as an “indicator of aggression,” and that the extremist groups will most likely view this presence as “a willingness to confront them directly.”

He also noted that militant groups and Iran may increasingly attack US and Iraqi forces in response.

However, the report considered that with the increase in the number of US forces, the Iraqi army will have greater access to advanced technology to monitor and deter potential attacks, and greater protection for civilian lives.

The report concluded by calling for an increase in the size of the US force in Iraq to 3,500, explaining that the world should not witness a new disaster like Afghanistan, and that this increase would allow Washington to make a complete and early withdrawal in the future with its full confidence that the Iraqi army can defend itself.

Until then, the report said, the US military will maintain a vital presence in a stable Middle East, and will also protect the lives of many Iraqi citizens. "The time is now for the United States to act, ensuring a prosperous and stable future for Iraq, the Middle East and the world," he added.

US reaffirms suppor t for Peshmerga to continue fighting ISIS

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The United States said it will continue to support the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in their fight against terror in a letter received by the Kurdish prime minister on Tuesday as America’s mission in the country formally shifts away from combat into an advisory role.

Sent by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the letter comes at a time where Islamic State (ISIS) attacks on the Peshmerga forces are on the rise, especially in areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad with 22 Kurdish soldiers killed since November 27.

America will continue to assist the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in confronting ISIS, particularly in the fields of “consulting, information exchange and intelligence,” read a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that was sent to Rudaw.

Austin also emphasized the importance of maintaining the strong relation the Kurdistan Region and America share, as well as America’s cooperation in confronting ISIS, it added.

Washington has maintained a strong relationship with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The US has provided the Kurdish Peshmerga with several rounds of military aid over the years, namely in the fight against ISIS beginning in 2014. The coalition gave over 200 vehicles, including Humvees, water tankers and transport trucks to the Kurdish fighters in July and September.

The terror group was territorially defeated in 2017, but it remains a serious security threat, especially in areas where there is a security vacuum between Erbil and Baghdad. It has recently increased its attacks on the Kurdish forces.

ISIS attacked Peshmerga in Kirkuk late on Sunday, killing four of them. The militant group also claimed responsibility for a Thursday attack on two villages in southwest Erbil near the disputed territory of Makhmour that left 10 Peshmerga fighters and three civilians dead.

Austin and Barzani previously discussed the security of areas of Iraq and the Region that remain a hotspot for ISIS activities in November.

The deadly ISIS offensives come as the US prepares to withdraw its combat troops by the end of the year, as the coalition formally shifts its mission focus to advising and assisting Iraqi forces. There are currently about 2,500 US troops in Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region. It is not immediately clear whether the shift in roles will change the number of American soldiers in the country.

The US is under pressure to withdraw from Iraq. However, several Iraqi and Kurdish officials have said Iraq still needs the assistance of the US-led coalition against ISIS.

In turn, the Iraqi government affirmed "its commitment once again to protect the members of the international coalition and the NATO mission in Iraq.
The gathered parties also reconfirmed their plan to re-evaluate progress in this relationship on a quarterly basis, within the framework of the Iraqi Security Coordination Group."

Shafaq News/ US President Joe Biden said that there will be no US forces carrying out combat missions in Iraq after December 31, 2021.

Biden said, in a letter he sent to the US Congress, that the United States continues to work with partners in the fight against terrorism, alluding to the deployment of military forces in the Middle East to support allies in the fight against terrorism.

He added that a small number of American soldiers have been deployed to Yemen to carry out operations against al-Qaeda and ISIS.

And he added in his message, "We have forces in Saudi Arabia to protect our interests in the region from any hostile acts by Iran."

He continued, "America is working closely with the Yemeni government and its regional partners to undermine the influence of terrorist groups.

Remember we will still have a significant cadre of military troops in our Iraqi Embassy to protect our interests there. Just no official "Combat Missions"...! :salute:RON

I agree, just don't leave it all behind for  the enemy like Jo blow did. Then, as Donald Trump would say, Next time you want our help you will need to pay for it with oil and cash/ No checks.

There are so many other things that have happened lately that give "an RV" more of a reality like, Iraq giving back recovered bodies of dead Kuwait citizens, finishing paying them off for war reparation, out of chapter 7...... Anyone else want to add something?
