Shafaq News/ Legal expert Jamal Al-Asadi presented today, Sunday, a new opinion regarding the fate of the coordination framework lawsuit regarding the recent parliamentary elections before the Federal Court, referring to recommendations that the latter might issue.

Al-Asadi told Shafaq News Agency, "The case of the coordination framework regarding the elections before the Federal Court will logically be rejected, because the Federation does not have the authority to engage in technical matters related to the elections for which the Independent High Electoral Commission itself is responsible."

And he stated, "The Federal Court is constitutionally only obligated to ratify the election results, and when it checks these results, it has the right to refuse to certify some of the names for not fulfilling their conditions, so it sends them back to the commission for the purpose of completing them, as happened in the 2014 and 2018 elections."

And about canceling the results of some stations or recounting the others, Al-Asadi said, “It is not within the powers of the Federal Court to cancel the results of some stations or demand their recount, but it can ask or inquire from the Independent High Electoral Commission about some of the things that marred the electoral process.”

He continued, "If the federal government considers that there is a need for a recommendation, it directs the commission to review what it deems necessary to review and correct it before approving the election results."

And earlier today, Sunday, the Coordinating Framework's lawyer, Muhammad Al-Saadi, said that the Federal Supreme Court will consider the case submitted by the framework to annul the results of the last elections tomorrow, Monday.

Al-Saadi told Shafaq News Agency, "Tomorrow the court will issue its final decision, and that its decision is unknown, the court's decision may be to cancel the results or respond to the submitted invitation."

The expert in Iraqi law, Tariq Harb, expects the Federal Supreme Court to issue a decision dismissing the case to cancel the results of the early parliamentary elections, which was filed by the leader of the Al-Fateh Alliance Hadi Al-Amiri.

The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq set today, Sunday, January 26, as a date for issuing the decision, but the date was postponed to tomorrow, Monday, due to the presence of an official holiday.

It is expected that the Coordination Framework Forces will hold a meeting later on Sunday evening to discuss its options regarding the upcoming decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the lawsuit to cancel the results of the parliamentary elections that took place last October.
