Political analyst: There is no armed escalation in the street, and the protests will continue until the formation of the government

{Politics: Al Furat News} The political analyst, Bassam Al-Qazwini, suggested that there would be no armed escalation in the Iraqi street, which rejects the election results and that the protests will continue until the formation of the new government.

Al-Qazwini said; For the "State Dialogue" program broadcast by Al-Furat satellite channel on Tuesday evening, "The theme of peaceful protests in its beautiful form calls for manual counting or holding new elections and will continue until the formation of the reinforced bloc and it is pressing towards forming the government in isolation from the largest bloc."
He added, "The existing intersections are part of the problem of the electoral results," referring to "three paths to form the next government. The first is to announce the largest bloc between the coordination framework and the Sadrist bloc, and the second is to strengthen the larger bloc by joining some forces with the Sadrist bloc."
Al-Qazwini continued, "The third path is to withdraw the red line from some personalities, and the next prime minister may be one of the former, or personalities from the judicial bodies, or he comes from outside Iraq."
And he indicated that "everyone is fleeing now from the issue of negotiating to form a government, and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, is satisfied with the changes and the coordinating framework is still objecting to the election results."
Al-Qazwini added, "It is not legal to re-count and hand-count all polling stations, and there is no armed escalation in the street, and the coordinating framework will suffice with legal objection."
In the opinion of the political analyst, "Some political forces in the coordinating framework are the weight-bearing egg to announce the largest bloc."

Shafaq News/ The candidate for the National Contract Alliance in the first constituency in Basra Governorate, Majid Al-Abadi, filed a lawsuit before the Karkh Court of First Instance against the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in addition to his job because of the violations that accompanied the voting process.

Al-Abadi demanded that the election results be annulled for the reasons stated in the lawsuit; The court has set the 23rd of this month as the date for the pleading.

It is noteworthy that the complainant works as a former judge in the Basra Court of Appeal.

The so-called Preparatory Committee for Demonstrations and Sit-ins Rejecting the results of the elections in Iraq threatened, earlier today, Thursday, to escalate its protest led by several Shiite forces other than the Sadrist movement.

Since the Independent High Commission announced the results of the legislative elections that took place last October, Shiite parties that own armed factions expressed their rejection of these results, and began to escalate and mobilize their audience to take to the street, which is what actually happened with the launch of demonstrations in regions and cities in Iraq.

Political leaders warned of fears that the rejectionist attitudes would take another path, given that the parties objecting to the election results had money and weapons and could worsen the situation and ignite a civil war in Iraq.

The results of the parliamentary elections resulted in the Sadrist bloc, led by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, winning more than 70 seats, which qualifies him to form the federal government in alliance with winning political forces from the Kurds and Sunnis, and this aroused the resentment of the Shiite parties opposed to Sadr.

Below is the lawsuit filed by the candidate, Majid Al-Abadi, for the "National Contract" coalition led by the head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh Al-Fayyad:

The preacher of the Sadrist movement, Hadi al-Dinawi, called on the political blocs that reject the election results to desist from involving young people in the demonstrations, for fear of what might happen with unimaginable consequences.

Al-Dinnawi said in his political sermon at the Kufa Mosque, “I recommend the political blocs that are involved in the demonstrations in denial of the election results to desist from doing so lest an unfortunate event occur in terms of killing, God forbid, from them or the security forces. All are our sons, and they must contribute to activating civil peace If they are lovers of Iraq."

He asked, "Why this fear of the Sadrist bloc? They understand that if they are good, they will get you well, and if they are not, the equation is the same. There is no need to be afraid, and we promise you that they are good because they will work under the supervision of their leader, al-Sadr, who has dedicated himself to reform and fighting corruption."

He continued, "By God, I swear by God for every tweet addressing neighboring countries. It is a speech of a complete and prudent state that we have not heard from a government or politician for 18 years in order to prevail over Iraq's security, peace and the sanctity of blood. And others, and the innocent youth of the demonstrations, so is there an ear that is conscious of what we say, is there a benefactor who will hear us?”

Al-Dinnawi criticized "the duplicity that occurs in society, especially in some clan societies, for those who claim their love for Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon him), on the one hand, and then work to disturb the community with clan fighting, tribal conflicts, shooting and killing without legal or societal deterrence."

The preacher of the Kufa mosque of the Sadrist movement, Hadi al-Dinawi, warned, on Friday, the political forces rejecting the results of the elections for what he called "unfortunate consequences" if they insist on moving on with their position, calling on them to stop pushing their supporters to the street to demonstrate.

Al-Dinawi said in his Friday prayer sermon at the Kufa Mosque, which was followed by NRT Arabia, (November 5, 2021), "I recommend that some of our sons who are involved in demonstrations, in denial of the election results, desist from doing so, lest an unimaginable consequence of killing happen."

Al-Khatib al-Sadr called on these blocs to "contribute to activating civil peace," asking: Why this fear of the Sadrist bloc?, reassuring that this bloc will work under the supervision of the movement's leader Muqtada al-Sadr.

Iraq on high alert as militias prepare to protest election results

Iraqi security forces have deployed heavily around Baghdad’s Green Zone as militias prepare to protest election results which gave them a low number of seats in the new Iraqi parliament.

Iraqi security forces deployed heavily around Baghdad’s Green Zone in the early hours of Friday morning as pro-Iran militias prepared to protest the results of recent parliamentary elections.

The Green Zone, a fortified area in central Baghdad, contains Iraqi government offices and Western diplomatic missions.

Iraq held parliamentary elections on October 10 and the Sairoon Alliance, led by Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, emerged as the largest party winning 73 seats in the 329 seat parliament.

Al-Sadr has previously had an ambivalent relationship with Iran.

By contrast the Fatah Alliance, which is linked to pro-Iran militias, performed relatively poorly, winning only 17 seats.

The militias, most of whom are part of the state-sponsored Popular Mobilization Forces coalition, have accused the Iraqi government of falsifying results and “stealing” the election.

They have called on their supporters to take to the streets on Friday, calling the planned protests “The Friday of the Last Chance”.

Dozens of military vehicles carrying security personnel were seen entering the Green Zone late on Thursday night and early on Friday morning.

Eyewitnesses told The New Arab’s Arabic-language service that the security forces had entered via the Green Zone’s Qadissiyah Gate and then positioned themselves there and at the other gates leading to the area.

An officer in the Baghdad Joint Operations Command also told The New Arab’s Arabic language service that “hundreds of security forces are taking part” in a plan to protect the Green Zone.

He added that they had set up barriers in the Karrada and Jadiriya areas near the zone, as well as in Tahrir Square.

“Orders have emphasised avoiding clashes with the protesters while preventing them from reaching the gates of the Green Zone,” the officer said.

Earlier, Qais Al-Khazali, the leader of the Asa’ib Ahl Al-Haq militia said, “The results of the elections are rejected by those who took part in them and this is based on evidence.”

“Demonstrations will continue until people get their rights and falsifying results is unacceptable,” he added.

Following previous threats from militias the Iraqi High Election Commission revised previously declared results although it later denied that the revisions had been made in response to threats.

On Friday the Election Commission announced that it had finished recounting votes in several Iraqi provinces in response to challenges from candidates and would begin recounting votes in Baghdad in response to similar challenges.

More than 100 injured as police clash with pro-Iran groups in Baghdad

Protesters throng Iraqi capital to vent anger over election controversy

Iraqi security forces clashed with protesters in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.

The National  Nov 5, 2021

Hundreds of supporters of pro-Iran groups clashed with security forces in Baghdad on Friday, leaving more than 100 people injured as they vented their fury over last month's Iraq election result, medical and security sources said.

“There were 125 people injured, 27 of them civilians and the rest from the security forces,” Iraq's health ministry said.

The political arm of the pro-Iran Hashed Al Shaabi paramilitary network saw its share of parliamentary seats decline substantially in the election, which the group's supporters have denounced as “fraud".

Demonstrators from groups loyal to Hashed Al Shaabi threw projectiles and “blocked … access to the Green Zone” on three sides before they were pushed back by police, who fired weapons in the air, a security source said, requesting anonymity.

The health ministry said nobody was killed in the clashes but some pro-Iran channels on messaging app Telegram claimed police fired live rounds at protesters.

“Two demonstrators were killed,” a leader of the Hezbollah Brigades, one of Hashed Al Shaabi's most powerful factions, told AFP, requesting anonymity.

Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi “ordered a full inquiry into Friday's events”, his office said, while President Barham Salih called for restraint.

After a brief lull, clashes resumed in the evening near the Green Zone, a source from the Hezbollah Brigades said.

The source also accused security forces of torching protest tents pitched by Hashed Al Shaabi supporters in the area.

Discontent over elections festers

Iraq's final election results have yet to be confirmed, almost four weeks since the October 10 ballot.

 HDLFWEIQTG36PNRZCBJDQICA4Y.jpg

Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission is expected to announce the results of Sunday's election within two days

Early indications showed populist cleric Moqtada Al Sadr's bloc was likely to win 73 seats in the 329-member house. Mr Al Sadr has criticised foreign intervention in Iraq, including that of Iran.

The Conquest (Fatah) Alliance, the political arm of the multiparty Hashed Al Shaabi, won about 15, preliminary results showed.

In the last Parliament, it held 48 seats, making it the second-largest bloc.

The Taqadum party, led by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammed Al Halbousi, took 37 seats, while former prime minister Nouri Al Maliki’s State of Law bloc won 35 seats.

As final results draw nearer, wrangling over government formation appears to have already begun. Mr Al Sadr was in Baghdad this week, holding meetings with Mr Al Halbousi, former prime minister Haider Al Abadi and cleric Ammar Al Hakim.

Mr Al Maliki said on Twitter that protesters, who were “claiming their legitimate rights”, should not escalate the violence and avoid provoking security forces.

“We strongly condemn the assault and the use of violence and excessive force by any party and we warn against the interference of malicious hands and suspicious parties in order to ignite sedition,” he said.

So far, unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud are casting a shadow over an election that was praised by the US, the UN Security Council and others for being the smoothest in years and without major technical glitches.

Last week, manual recounting was called at more than 2,000 polling stations after appeals over the results poured in.

Once the appeals are dealt with by the Judicial Commission, the results will be sent to the High Federal Court for ratification, and then Mr Salih will have 15 days to call for the new Parliament to convene.

It remains unclear when the final election results will be announced.

This week, the same area of Baghdad was hit by three rockets, which struck an area near a Red Crescent hospital, a bank and the district's water management department. No casualties were reported.

The so far unclaimed attack was the first to hit the Green Zone since two rockets were fired into the area on July 29.

CLASHES OUTSIDE BAGHDAD’S GREEN ZONE OVER ELECTION OUTCOME

 51120211352upload_1636119087_183756842.jpg

SULAIMANI — Supporters of Iran-backed groups clashed with security forces outside of Baghdad’s Green Zone on Friday (November 5).

The crowd had gathered to dispute the outcome of last month’s parliamentary election, which showed a steep drop in the number of seats held by the Fatah Alliance.

Hospital sources told Reuters that twenty-one protesters were hurt, as were nine police.

In a statement, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said that protesters should exercise their rights peacefully and avoid violence.

He also called on the security forces to respect the rights of protesters and for political parties to lower the temperature and engage in dialogue.

Baghdad deaths, injuries to be investigated amid election dispute

Supporters of Iraqi Shiite armed groups run from security forces after clashes during a protest against the election results in Baghdad, Iraq, November 5, 2021.

BAGHDAD, Nov 5 (Reuters) - An investigation has begun into the deaths and injuries of demonstrators and security forces after clashes in Baghdad on Friday, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported, citing Iraq's Joint Operations Command.

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi ordered the formation of a committee to investigate following clashes between Iraqi security forces and supporters of parties that are disputing the results of a general election in October.

A Joint Operations Command statement did not mention the number of deaths and injuries.

The statement added that "the negligent will be brought to legal accountability for their negligence and violation of the explicit orders of the commander in chief, which stressed that live bullets should not be fired under any circumstances," INA reported.

Al-Kadhimi also ordered compensation for victims of the clashes and decided to personally supervise the progress of the investigation, INA said.

It was the first significant violent clash between government forces and supporters of the political parties, most of which have armed wings and are aligned with Iran, since those groups lost dozens of parliament seats after the Oct. 10 vote.

Police fired tear gas and live ammunition into the air as scores of the protesters threw stones and tried to advance towards Baghdad's fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies, the security sources said.

Hospital sources said that more than 21 protesters were hurt mostly from smoke inhalation and nine policeman injured from being pelted by stones.

The parties that made the biggest gains in Iraq's October election include that of populist Shi'ite Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, who publicly opposes Iranian interference in Iraqi politics and has called for all remaining Western troops to withdraw from the country.

The Iran-backed groups disputing the election result are also Shi'ite but follow an Iranian model of theocratic governance which the nationalist Sadr and many ordinary Iraqi Shi'ites reject.

As per al-Kadhimi's orders, the investigation committee will include the security of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), a state-sanctioned umbrella organisation of mostly Shi'ite militias backed by Iran, INA said.

Iraq's majority Shi'ites have dominated government since the U.S.-led overthrow of Sunni dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003. Sunnis and Iraqi Kurds, the next biggest religious and ethnic groups in Iraq, lead significant alliances in parliament.

The election result was seen as a rejection by voters of foreign influence, especially that of Iran.

The parties disputing the result say there were irregularities in the voting process and vote counting, but have not provided compelling evidence for their claims.

1 killed, scores injured in rally over Iraq election results

The protesters reject the results of last month's parliamentary elections that saw the pro-Iran militias as the biggest losers.

Supporters of Iraqi Shiite armed groups run from security forces after clashes during a protest against the election results in Baghdad, Iraq on November 5, 2021

One protester was killed and scores of people, mostly members of Iraqi security forces, were injured on Friday when scuffles between supporters of pro-Iran Shiite militias who had camped outside Baghdad’s Green Zone and anti-riot police turned deadly, officials said.

The protesters reject the results of last month’s parliamentary elections that saw the pro-Iran militias as the biggest losers.

The health ministry said the injuries in early Friday’s scuffles were mostly from smoke inhalation and rock throwing. Most of the injured were members of the riot police.

It was not clear what sparked the clashes later on Friday.

There were reports of an exchange of fire after dark on Friday following a day of tense rallies and scuffles between the Iraqi forces and the protesters who have been camped out outside the Green Zone for over three weeks.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi ordered an investigation into Friday’s violence to determine what sparked the clashes and who violated orders not to open fire, a statement from the joint security operations room said.

About 300 protesters marched, apparently trying to storm the heavily protected Green Zone, and used rocks to pelt the security forces. The anti-riot police responded with batons, tear gas and water cannons to push them back.

At least 27 civilians and 98 members of the security were injured, the health ministry said. Then clashes erupted, killing at least one protester, two security officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to reporters.

Following the vote, militia supporters had pitched tents near the Green Zone in an ongoing sit-in, rejecting the election results and threatening violence unless their demands were met.

The United States, the UN Security Council and others have praised the October 10 election, which was mostly violence-free and without major technical glitches.

But unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud have cast a shadow over the vote. The standoff with the militia supporters is also increasing tensions among rival Shiite factions that could reflect on the street and threaten Iraq’s newfound relative stability.

The election was held months ahead of schedule in response to mass protests in late 2019, which saw tens of thousands in Baghdad and predominantly Shiite southern provinces rally against endemic corruption, poor services and unemployment. They also protested against the heavy-handed interference of neighbouring Iran in Iraq’s affairs through Iran-backed militias.

The militias lost popularity since the 2018 vote, when they made big election gains. Many hold them responsible for suppressing the 2019 protests, and for challenging the state’s authority.

The biggest gains were made by influential Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who won the largest number of parliament seats, 73 out of 329. While he maintains good relations with Iran, al-Sadr publicly opposes external interference in Iraq’s affairs.

The protests appear to be aimed at pressuring al-Sadr to ensure that Iran-aligned factions are part of the next Cabinet. As the winner, al-Sadr’s bloc will seek coalition partners and name the prime minister.

A statement issued by the Joint Operations Command

After the unfortunate events that occurred yesterday, Friday, near the sit-in squares in Baghdad.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, directed the Baghdad Operations Command to form an advanced headquarters headed by a high-ranking officer and representatives of the security services, including the Popular Mobilization Authority, for the purpose of working on managing and securing the sit-in area near the suspension bridge to prevent friction between the security forces and the demonstrators.

Accordingly, we recommend and remind the demonstrators to abide by the rules of freedom of expression guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution, and we also call on the Iraqi security forces to exercise restraint and adhere to the best professional practices to protect freedom of expression and human rights.

At the same time, our leadership continues to work through proactive operations in various sectors to enhance security and stability and confront the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs in all regions of the country.

May God protect Iraq and its people
