A total of One Third of the year is days off for these yokels.... this and combined with massive corruption make sand bagging & foot dragging a real art form.

They also keep at their side, Delay & Postponement rabbits in the hats like Marshall Mat Dillion wears his six gun. Always at the ready, and ready to use.

It’s astonishing to me sometimes that anything ever gets done

Germany, Japan ( well Italy helped a little bit ) plunged the entire world in war, chaos and Butchery the likes of which the world will long remember. We know Iraq’s history. It didn’t take the aforementioned countries 18 gosh damn years to get their currency’s out there on the global playing field. Iraq’s journey has been nothing short of pathetic.
Successive corrupt governments in Iraq these past 18 years have created an embarrassing reminder that GREED can corrupt absolutely. We’ve seen what the results of that can be.
A real time history lesson for us all.

At one time, not too long ago, they had said they were going to "consolidate" some of their holidays into just one. Guess that was a failure,  just like everything else they do. 🙄

Iraqis celebrate their National Day

Sunday 03 October 2021 349Iraqis celebrate their National Day

 Baghdad: Omar Abdul Latif

Today, Sunday, Iraq celebrates for the first time the "National Day", which coincides with the 89th anniversary of the country's independence, sovereignty, and liberation from the British Mandate in 1932, and political analysts confirmed that choosing the third of October as a national day for Iraq was very appropriate, indicating that it is a day in which there is no difference. Two countrymen.
Political analyst Dr. Ahmed Rahim stated that "the national holiday of any country in the world is the day on which that country is liberated from occupation, and there is no doubt that the modern Iraqi state, which was founded in 1921 and liberated from British occupation in 1932, deserves to make this history a national holiday for it." .
He added, "The successive republics have taken from the day they came to power a national holiday, and this does not represent all the state because the Iraqi society was not unanimous in accepting it, whether the republican regime that emerged after the events of 1958 or the coup of 1968 or the 2003 regime," and he considered that "the national holiday" The real Iraq is the day of liberation from British occupation."
As for the professor of public international law, Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Jumaili; He attributed the main reason behind the lack of agreement on the National Day to "the circumstances of the emergence of the Iraqi state, and the irrational pluralism in the demographic structure of Iraqi society, which led to the dominance of subsidiary affiliations at the expense of national identity."
He added that "the failure of the Iraqi state to crystallize a comprehensive concept of the principle of citizenship and a common national identity, reflected negatively on the idea and sense of the state and its identity, which varied from viewpoints to these aspects, each according to his perception and the doctrinal, social and cultural background through which he sees the identity of the state," noting that "the feast Is it the day of the establishment of the state, its entry into the League of Nations, the July 14 revolution, or the day of occupation? And other occasions and manifestations that reflect the state of instability of the Iraqi state as an entity and society, and the absence of a comprehensive national project.
Al-Jumaili ruled out the possibility of “unity in the matter of Iraq’s national holiday, given the singularity of the authorities in the qualitative choices of the facts of modern and contemporary Iraqi history, without precedent by a national and societal dialogue for the Iraqi people, the true owner of power, sovereignty, and the only legitimate popular reference for the significance of the symbols and dates that It shaped and formed the collective mind and the historical narrative of Iraqi society,” he concluded by saying: “Therefore, the national holiday is the property of the people and not of the changing authorities from time to time.”
