Baghdad summit

Monday 30 August 2021 81Baghdad summit

Hussein Thaghab

The Baghdad summit came to move Iraq’s chronic economic stagnation with its regional and international surroundings. After the hibernation of the vital industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors in the country, we sensed from the presence a serious desire to support Iraq in its various sectors, and international support for its return to its true place among the countries globe.

An important summit that opens political and economic horizons, as the delegations came to Baghdad, the kiss of all, and present in the hearts of the world, and they realize that the most important courses of action in this country rich in its history and heritage is that it is a virgin land for work and accommodates international efforts.
major.
Iraq, which is important with its capabilities and location, can be an important hub and an eighth economic corridor on the surface of the globe, and this is supported by the assurances of economists and specialists.
 about it.
We have an opportunity to invest this international and regional presence and plan for a new stage of work that will move the country to better levels.
And logistically.
Iraq can be an international commercial industrial center and we have a global economic city whose center can be in the south of Iraq and in the city of Al-Faw in particular. The transport of goods shall be within short periods, dependent on the dry channel established for this purpose and which generates revenue
Always.
Through the portal of this summit, we can open a door to communicate with the most important international companies to come to Iraq and work together to achieve mutual benefit, as we can significantly advance our economy and serve our country, and the countries of the region together, as the economic advancement in Iraq brings benefit to all countries of the world without
exception.
Thus, it becomes clear to us the importance of the Baghdad Summit and its economic dimension, which must be before our eyes and invest in it in the right way optimum.

Positive echoes left by the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, can be employed to serve the national economy and move it to a new, more developed stage commensurate with Iraq’s capabilities. renewable.
The international interest that the Baghdad conference received stemmed from the most important economies of the world, and this is evidence that the next stage was not the same as the previous one. Rather, there will be a movement, coinciding with the desire to reform the country’s economic reality, and move the joints of work in cooperation with the competent international effort.

The economic activity
He pointed out that {most countries of the world realize that reviving economic activity in Iraq achieves three benefits at the same time, as it brings benefit to those who work and invest in the country and Iraq, as well as a benefit that is achieved for the global economy, due to Iraq's geographical location and the possibility of linking between different countries of the world and ease of communication. and shortening the time and effort between East and West}.

At the start of this Iraq war, I recall Jean Chretien was Canadian Prime Minister.  Jean was opposed to the war. One of his children was married to a guy who owned a lot of Total, the French oil company, that had 25% of all the oil leases under Saddam. I thought at the time, that Jean was opposed to the war because it would interfere with the oil leases that were financially benefitting his children. I wonder if France is looking to revive those oil leases? :bananacamel:

Baghdad summit and the expected stability

Sunday 05 September 2021 90Baghdad summit and the expected stability

Yasser Al-Metwally

In an analytical reading of the future of the Iraqi economy from the perspective of the Baghdad Summit and its results. All the goals, ambitions and aspirations that were drawn in the light of the summit are legitimate and real, and all the analyzes, expectations and concerns are realistic and important, and the reason is definitely the historical moment, in which the conference was held in light of the difficult circumstances the world, the region and our regional surroundings are going through.

The question that now arises is what is the possibility of building a new economic system for Iraq in light of expectations? Whatever the results of the conference, it is a success par excellence achieved by Iraq in reformulating the orientations of economic interests, which were at war between the countries of the region and a serious attempt to create a new economic partnership between Iraq and its regional surroundings and reduce tension in the region through the gateway to the economy.
How do we invest this success in the post? The convening of this important historic summit came at the critical point of the remaining period of time for the current government, which is set at one month and five days. Observers will remain awaiting the outcome of the upcoming elections and the formation of a new government. Here, the important question arises. Will the next government continue to implement the important economic results of the current government, represented by bilateral and regional agreements and the outcomes of the Baghdad summit?
The answer to this legitimate question will be found in the government program of the next government.
If emphasis is placed on continuing the approach planned by the current government, optimism in this important forum will, of course, be achieved through action.
But if the next government goes to the zero-sum equation and starts over as usual in previous governments and blows up all the achieved successes, God forgive, all efforts will be in vain.
Achieving security and economic stability for Iraq and its regional surroundings is based on the commitment of all parties to their commitments, and most importantly, Iraq's commitment to the principles from which it was launched to call for the Baghdad summit.
A bright future awaits Iraq if it is able to preserve the results and outcomes of the Baghdad Summit and its developmental and participatory goals, and to exchange common interests with all countries surrounding the region and to deal with the same distance, according to the common interests with all the countries of the region.
So, the new economic system that Iraq is waiting for depends first on the next government program. Will it include the achievements as well as the extent of the commitment of the countries of the region to their commitments? Optimism and hope remain our obsession for Iraq's return to the forefront of the economic scene in the region and at the global level, in line with its human and natural resources and capabilities.
So what is required is a serious quest to achieve the expected economic stability, by preserving the outcomes and results of the Baghdad Summit, which aims to achieve a just and equitable partnership and the exchange of interests between neighboring countries.
