Iran participates in the Baghdad summit of regional neighbors

923061-6ec82a48-ddb6-4d12-9e84-78dbc9206
Baghdad / NINA / - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh described Iraq's regional role as remarkable, declaring that Iran will participate in the Baghdad summit of regional neighbors.

Khatibzadeh said in his weekly press conference today, Monday, about Tehran's response to the invitation extended to it by Baghdad to participate in the security meeting of the regional neighbors: The meeting of the neighboring countries in Baghdad is not a new initiative, but our brothers in Baghdad have been following it for some time. The details of the meeting have not been announced so far, but we will certainly participate in it at an appropriate level.”

He referred to Iraq's position in the region, adding that we consider Iraq's regional role to be remarkable, and we have always sought to make this role prominent.

Regarding the Iranian Foreign Ministry's procedures regarding the Arbaeen ceremony of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), he said: During our visit to Iraq, they had talks, and our ambassador also held separate talks with Iraqi officials. Of course, the conditions of Corona have imposed restrictions on us. We should see if we can send even a limited number of people to participate in the forty marches or not? ./End 2

Iraq articles

Our region has been living in turbulent conditions for decades as a result of conflicts and wars, whether between Arab countries and Israel, or between the Arab countries themselves, or between Iran and Iraq, the Lebanese civil war, and the Israeli wars on Lebanon that targeted the Palestinian military presence there, in addition to the war Kuwait, and the military campaigns against the Kurds in Iraq, Iran and Turkey at different stages as a result of demanding rights. And Israeli campaigns on the West Bank and Gaza from time to time, in response to Palestinian demands for legitimate rights.
In the last two decades, the pace of unrest has increased, and Iraq, with its huge natural and human resources, has become a broken country, its people dreaming of water, electricity, the minimum acceptable level of care, and the simplest necessities of a decent life. Lebanon, which was known in the fifties and sixties as the Pearl of the Orient, or the Switzerland of the East, became a country begging its residents for bread, medicine and fuel. As a result of displacement, killing and destruction, after the war declared by the government, with the support of its allies against the Syrians opposed to its tyranny and corruption, Syria turned into a wreckage over which regional and international armies are wrestling, and foreign militias introduced by Bashar al-Assad from all sides, militias raising sectarian slogans, and working for transient agendas. National borders have nothing to do with the interests of Syrians and their future. The same is true in Yemen, whose people are in real distress, as a result of the internal war that has been linked to regional agendas and conflicts.
The cost of all of this is exorbitant, both financially and humanly. Fantastic sums are spent to buy weapons and debts and to provide aid that often does not reach those who deserve it. This is while the ghoul of corruption is the fiercest, usually flourishing in an atmosphere of turmoil, polarization, fragility of states and the dominance of militias, plundering wealth without mercy.

Regional disputes and conflicts will not end with a winner and a loser, as long as the potential for bullying with this or that international body exists

Continuing in this situation will lead to more destruction, disintegration, displacement and putrefaction, and waste material wealth and human energies, especially in light of the hateful sectarian polarization that was imposed on the societies of the region for open opportunistic political calculations. It is clear that regional disputes and conflicts will not end with a winner and a loser, as long as the potential for bullying this or that international party exists, which leads to more complexity, more attrition, and more suffering for our societies.
Our region is in dire need of a regional initiative, bringing together its countries, to discuss all issues, differences, concerns and aspirations; It also needs joint work in order to rotate the angles, determine the consensus, and transfer the disputed over to future meetings, which take place on an ongoing basis, after agreeing on the mechanisms and determinants.
What enhances the chances of such an initiative is the number of conciliatory steps and the meetings that took place, in secret and in public, between the various countries in the region. Reference is made here in particular to the Gulf reconciliation, the Turkish-Egyptian understandings, the contacts between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Jordan and Iran, the Saudi initiative for peace in Yemen, the Turkish-Emirati meetings, and the ongoing Iraqi endeavors to secure Arab openness to Iraq.
This is in addition to the Iraqi efforts made to maintain good neighborly relations with everyone, especially with Iran and Turkey, as they are the two most influential regional powers in the internal Iraqi reality. Iran is present in Iraq through its forces and allied factions, as well as Turkey through the presence of its army in many From the regions of the Kurdistan region of Iraq. In line with this trend, the Iraqi government constantly affirms its refusal to turn its country into an arena for settling scores among others, or a fulcrum for threatening or harming neighboring countries.

The region’s problems as a whole are not intractable to solution, if national interests are given priority over personal and factional interests.

Within the framework of these endeavors, the Iraqi initiative came to hold a regional-international meeting in late August, which includes the largest number of countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Britain and France, in addition to representatives of international organizations, such as the United Nations. United States and European Union. There are unremitting efforts being made to secure the holding of this meeting and to build on it.
What is certain is that this meeting will not be the magic wand that will enable us to address all the complex problems of the region, but it will represent, in any case, if the pivotal actors at the regional level participate in it with strong representation, a positive breakthrough that can be developed and continued, if there is a desire In overcoming the absurd conflicts that exhausted the peoples of the region, blocked the horizons for their youth, and heralded what would be worse for future generations. But this desire will not be productive unless it is supported by a strong will, ready to face challenges, and wisely address a number of controversial issues.
The region’s problems in general are not intractable to solution, if national interests are given priority over personal and factional interests. We have many examples in the experiences of other societies, and perhaps the closest and most beneficial of these experiences to our region is the European experience after the Second World War 1939-1945. Who would have believed that France and Germany would become one of the closest allies after long and bloody wars between them?

There are many problems and issues that cannot be addressed by denial, distortion and mutual accusations. But with conscious and patient efforts

Our countries and societies are in need of frank dialogues that diagnose problems, concerns, and what is required in depth. We also need minds capable of coming up with innovative creative solutions outside the box, if you will. Stereotypes, and mobilizing populist slogans, will only lead to more ruin in all its meanings. These dialogues will not be useful if they are limited to political meetings between countries. Rather, there is a necessary need for calm and serious dialogues between representatives of the various religions and sects in the region, between its various societal components. among thinkers, academics and media professionals; among economists; and between the various active societal forces.
There are many problems and issues that cannot be dealt with by denial, distortion, and mutual accusations. Rather, it is with conscious and patient efforts that are made through cooperation between everyone at various levels... The peoples of our region suffer from tyranny, extremism and corruption, and there are issues related to religious, sectarian and national components in the various countries of the region, which are still waiting for just solutions within national borders. Such solutions will be in the interest of all, but this will not be achieved without understanding and cooperation among all, from a position of complete conviction that justice, not injustice, is what builds man, civilization and nations. As for exploiting these issues and grievances for the benefit of regional, and perhaps international, projects, this means more conflicts, wars and negative outcomes whose harmful effects will be reflected on everyone and in all fields and at various levels.
Will the Iraq meeting be a good beginning for the peoples of our region? It is a prelude to periodic, traveling meetings of a Middle Eastern regional organization that focuses its attention on addressing the region’s problems and works to prepare the ground and conditions for constructive and fruitful cooperation, especially in the economic, scientific-technical, health and environmental fields among various countries, in a way that reassures our peoples after overcoming the causes of dispute, discord and wars that Did it cause painful tragedies and cracks?... This is what we hope and wait for.

The Iraq Neighborhood Summit is preparing to launch amid speculation that Syria is considered the “sick man of Levant.”

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein revealed differences that prevented Syria's participation in the Iraq Neighborhood Summit. This came after the Iraqi Foreign Ministry denied, earlier, any invitation to Syria to attend the Baghdad summit, against the background of a recent visit by the head of the Popular Mobilization militia to Damascus.

Neither Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi nor his office revealed details about the summit, which the local media called the Iraq Neighboring Countries Conference, which aims to address regional cooperation and stability. Invitations have already been delivered to the leaders of Jordan, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. While the leaders of Egypt, Qatar and the UAE were on the list of invitees, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said that no invitation had been sent to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. This prompted observers to say that the summit will tend to be considered the “sick man of the Levant.”

Al-Kazemi's office said that French President Emmanuel Macron had received an invitation and confirmed that he intended to attend during a telephone conversation with the Iraqi prime minister. But the list of participants does not appear to be final, and much of the conference's success will depend on what countries appear receptive and their level of participation.

The Iraqi Minister of Culture, Hassan Nazim, provided some details about the summit, who said that the meeting was part of the "al-Kazemi government's diplomatic strategy to restore stability in Iraq." "When the region stabilizes and tensions decrease, this will reflect positively on Iraq's stability," said Nazim, who also works as a government spokesman.

At the same time, Iraq is facing multiple political, economic and security crises and challenges in the field of governance, and confronting them is crucial to ending the stalemate the country is going through. According to observers, since taking office in May 2020, Al-Kazemi has engaged in diplomatic forays to try to bolster his image in the eyes of foreign leaders, taking advantage of the world's willingness to help stabilize Iraq.

Observers say that on the surface, his proactive foreign policy appears geared toward creating a new landscape of diplomacy with neighboring countries and other countries and promoting regional cooperation. But it was also clear that Al-Kadhimi faces a host of challenges on the domestic scene, from a dysfunctional government to endemic corruption, inept bureaucracy, and a crumbling health care system that has been overshadowed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Iraq calls for a summit in Baghdad aimed at calming tensions in the Gulf

Thursday 26 2021 - 02:00
Baghdad - Agencies: Iraq invited Iran and its opponents from the Arab Gulf states to attend a summit in Baghdad with the aim of calming down The tension that has pushed the two sides to the brink of open conflict in the past few years.

Officials say that the meeting, which will discuss the ongoing war in Yemen, the collapse of Lebanon and the water crisis at the regional level He may take a step towards a Saudi-Iranian rapprochement, although the two countries have not yet announced their level of representation in the world the meeting

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi also invited Egypt and Jordan to attend the Baghdad meeting, as well as Turkey and the French president Emmanuel Macron, whose country is co-organizing the summit expected to be held on Saturday.

A French source stated that Macron and Al-Kazemi want to reduce regional tension by strengthening dialogue on issues including security . "The goal is to start something here and we will continue it after this conference," the source said.

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran had increased after an attack in 2019 on Saudi oil installations that led to... To stop half of the Kingdom's oil production for a short period. Riyadh blamed Iran for the attack, but Tehran denied the accusation.

Saudi Arabia is concerned about US President Joe Biden's administration reviving nuclear talks, which could lead to a easing of nuclear talks The sanctions imposed on Tehran see communication as a way to contain tension without abandoning its security concerns about attacks Which bears responsibility for Iran and its allies.

Iraqi officials hope that Iran's new president, ultra-conservative Ebrahim Raisi, will attend the meeting and expect to attend Ministers from Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

An official close to Al-Kazemi said, "Even if we gather the foreign ministers at the same table, it is possible that we will meet the foreign ministers at the same table." This is a breakthrough to end the tension between the Iranians and the Gulf Arabs.”

The Afghan crisis is another factor that pushes for dialogue. Gulf Arabs, who have long depended on the United States for their security, worry about the end The chaos of Washington's 20-year war in Afghanistan, especially in light of the Taliban's restoration of power This month, foreign forces aim to complete their withdrawal by August 31.

The International Crisis Group said in a report, “The potential for regional conflict and its association with the perception of the Saudis and Emiratis that there is no… "Washington can be relied upon ... it prompted them to seek a limited, tactical, bilateral truce with Tehran."

A politician close to the prime minister said that Iraq, which hosted private meetings between Saudi and Iranian officials, has made public The current one has received "positive signals" from Tehran and the Gulf states that they are ready for more direct talks.

However, Saudi Arabia said it wanted verifiable actions from Iran. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said this month that Iran had grown emboldened and that it… It behaves negatively in the Middle East, including Yemen and Lebanon, and in the seas of the region.

Al-Kazemi: We deeply believe that our people do not lose confidence in the state

923681-af5554c9-adda-4c0f-81a5-018beacab
Baghdad / NINA / - Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said that we deeply believe that our people do not lose confidence in the state, so let us understand that the popular movement in Iraq, its essence and depth, is the defense of the state, regardless of the method of expression and the difference in viewing angles on how to practice defending the state.

Al-Kazemi added in the sessions of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, in the presence of the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, the head of the Arab Journalists Union, Muayyad al-Lami, and the media delegations, that our responsibility is grave, because the main problem in Iraq, as we see it, was not a problem of demonstrations or the intersection of opinions or ideas, but rather the problem as we understood it is the lack of trust and mistrust. In any society in the world is a real danger resource to this society.

He added, "We have faced a real social crisis, more than just a political crisis, even if its causes are political." And when society loses its confidence in official institutions and in the political and electoral process, it is on the verge of losing confidence in the state, and these are the highest stages of danger to any society in the world.

We deeply believe that our people do not lose confidence in the state, so let us understand that the popular movement in Iraq, its essence and depth, is the defense of the state, regardless of the method of expression and the difference in viewing angles on how to practice defending the state.

He continued, "We accepted the responsibility according to a roadmap that consists of three main points: The first is to reach fair, fair and early elections." The second is related to ensuring the security of the citizen and combating uncontrolled weapons. The third is to address the consequences of the painful events that occurred in Iraq in the month of October of the year two thousand and nineteen and their repercussions, and beyond this history and the fall of dear martyrs among our youth who are demanding their rights.

We focused first on compensating those affected by the families of the October martyrs, and we issued decisions to include them with all the martyrs' entitlements, and we insisted on this decision despite the presence of political opposition to it, and we did not back down from taking it to the end.

He stressed that we are still sticking to the election date on the tenth of next October, because we are true to our word before our people. And we said in the letter of assignment that we will reach these elections.

And between we have done our duty and taken many steps in terms of supporting the forces and restoring their prestige to play their role in protecting the homeland and the citizen and fighting uncontrolled weapons and crime, whatever their source.

He stressed that the next government must complete this task, and stress the continuation of the momentum to complete building our security and military capabilities and prevent all armed manifestations outside the framework of the state.

He added: We are determined to prevent Iraq from engaging in regional and international tensions, and we have adopted the principles of good neighborliness with our neighbors and friends, and we have restored distinguished relations regionally and internationally for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

And he stated: The file of foreign relations is at its best for many years, and the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership will be held on Iraqi soil, with wide regional and international participation, which is a reflection of Iraq’s positive foreign policy, which opens new doors for cooperation and support for Iraq in all fields, and Iraq restores its natural and historical size and role in the surroundings. regional and international.

We formed a legal team of retired judges known for their integrity, and confirmed that they had achieved the greatest stride in collecting facts about the events of October of the year two thousand and nineteen and their repercussions and circumstances from all concerned parties.

He pointed out that the institutional work of the legal team needs time to ensure its integrity and non-interference in its procedures. As a government, we have left the concerned team absolute freedom in dealing with all files that pertain to the executive authority, its institutions, personalities and files, and we have also left them absolute freedom to determine the mechanism for announcing the final results of the investigation.

Al-Kazemi stressed that we faced no less dangerous challenges represented by the economic collapse with the collapse of oil prices, and the challenge of the Corona pandemic, and thank God we have overcome the economic crisis together.

He pointed out that many parties that do not want good for Iraq did not want us to overcome this crisis, but our people were vigilant and knew the boundary between the cautious position and the bidding position that traded in the capabilities of the country, and realized that the crisis needed real decisions and not political bidding and shouting at means media.

He explained that we have prepared the reform white paper as a road map to save the Iraqi economy from the state of slavery in oil prices, and move it; To be an effective and productive economy in the coming years.

And what I am reviewing here does not represent a defense of the government, and it is not electoral propaganda; Because, as you know, I am not participating in the elections, but it is a framework that must be clear to understand together the challenges facing this country and the paths that must be established in the next stage.

He stressed: I will work hard to ensure that the recommendations of this conference are present in the government's performance, and I urge all of you to cooperate together as people of one nation to move our country from a state of conflict, difference, deterioration, doubts and distrust to prosperity, development, strength, work and mutual trust.

He continued, "All these goals do not occur with words only, but through two basic issues: the first is to identify the defect frankly, clearly and courageously." The second is to work on fixing this imbalance, no matter how difficult and painful it is, and we together insist that our people deserve the future and that they deserve to move from a state of chaos to a state of stability.

Al-Kazemi stressed that our people deserve the state, and reject the non-state, our people deserve their place among the nations of the earth, and refuse to be a playground for conflicts and passions.

We must put our hand in the hands of each other, the government and parliament, national political forces, popular activities, clans, youth, women and professional unions, to help our country move forward always, and open future horizons for future generations.

And the time for adventures has ended.. Today is our date with hard work, and the elections are the criterion for choosing who will stand up to this work and gain the people's trust. Participate in the elections and support them. Choose your representatives, and be covenant with your people./End of 9
