The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, who arrived in Kuwait yesterday, at the head of a high-level delegation, discussions on the latest developments in the region.

The media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister said, in a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that Al-Kazemi affirmed that "the Iraqi government is working to transform Iraq into a meeting point, dialogue and exchange of views between the various parties, and intensify efforts to enhance international cooperation to support Iraq, Strengthening relations with neighboring countries. Al-Kazemi indicated that "Baghdad will host at the end of this month the leaders of Iraq's neighboring and regional countries at the Baghdad Conference," expressing Iraq's desire for "the participation of the State of Kuwait at the highest levels."

This comes as the countdown to the Iraqi elections to be held on October 10 has begun, amid a conflict of electoral maps between the Shiite parties that intensified after the leader of the "Sadr movement" Muqtada al-Sadr announced his boycott of the elections, while efforts continue to discourage him from boycotting.

As for whether the electoral maps will be affected by the absence of the “Sadr movement,” an Iraqi politician told Asharq Al-Awsat that “at a time when the maps have stabilized at the level of Kurds and Sunnis; It is still worried and threatens the Shiites.” He added: “About 4 or 5 forces are still controlling the Shiite scene, making its political map unstable.”
