EVs Cost 1.6 To 2.3 Times More To Service Than Internal Combustion Vehicles, New Study Shows

The reality of owning an EV continues to sink in across the country, (oh but they are such cute cars).

For example, days ago we pointed out a report that dove into the unique risks of placing lithium ion batteries all over the world (including in electric vehicles).

And just over the last two months, we've written not only about how much driving needs to be done in EVs to make them better for the environment than internal combustion engine vehicles, but we've also noted that EV carbon footprints aren't necessarily as better than ICE vehicles as many people think.

Now, the hits keep on coming: we're finding out that EVs cost more to service than internal combustion engine vehicles. Like the reduction in environmental harm that we noted last month, however, the gap narrows over time.

Automotive News published a report on Thursday of this week noting that EVs were 2.3 times more expensive to service than ICE vehicles after three months of ownership. Analytics firm We Predict compiled the data by looking at roughly 19 million vehicles between the 2016 and 2021 model years.

That figure drops to just 1.6 times more expensive after one year, the report noted, as a result of a 77% drop in maintenance costs and a decline in repair costs. The data showed that service techs spend about twice as much time diagnosing problems with EVs as they do with regular gas vehicles. They spend about 1.5 times longer fixing them and the labor rate for repairs was about 1.3 times higher.

"It's an industry in launch. This is the launch factor you're seeing," said Renee Stephens, a vice president at We Predict.

EVs had a high rate of wheel problems, the study found. This was attributed to wear and tear associated with carrying bulky batteries.

Ford's Mach-E scored the best marks in terms of cost of service. After 3 months of ownership, the Mach-E service costs were $93, compared to $366 for the Audi E-Tron and $667 for the Porsche Taycan.

Thanks bigwave, There's something wrong with the whole EV picture imo. With the push for renewable energy and GREEN GREEN GREEN, where is the energy for charging all these EV's going to come from if fossil fuels are being phased out??

Possibly the tech for self charging will be perfected, but we're not there yet.

They also have a large carbon footprint to manufacture, heavy on environmental stress.

the tree huggers want to cover the planet with solar panels. saw a video yesterday where a YouTube truck driver was hauling a load of panels down to a new solar farm in south Georgia. He was blown away when he got there. A 25 acre farm of nothing but solar panels. He was told this was a smaller regional farm....

What about all the resources needed to build these panels and repair and maintain existing and new panels.

just more insanity.............

Interestingly I've been asking same question, where's the energy coming from to run these vehicles? Were a long ways off from solar, wind etc providing enough energy. Plus cost of repairs and if it costs $6,000 to replace the batteries, can those be recycled or? For people driving a $2500 aged vehicle that remains functional and used, what will they be forced to do?

The Deep State would like to limit We The Peoples ability to travel.

Restrict us to a 300 mile radius.

Plus, the extremely slow recharging process make us "easy targets" to control.

Yeah!! Do the math if you like to travel. Go maybe 350 miles sit somewhere and wait in line to charge up. Then how long does it take to get a full charge to go the 350 miles.
So for me from the Tampa Bay Area is 800 miles to N. Carolina where I like to go. This is a 9 to 10 hour drive for me.
Tesla say full charge is 8 to12 hours depending on hookup. That seems kinda stupid to me.  And don’t tell me “just keep a gas car for traveling”. Because gas is going to be $10 to $15 a gallon.

96.7 hrs at 110V just to charge the battery? That is taking almost 4 days. Man, That is really taking a long time. Let's say If someone charge the battery at home for 4 days/ one time charge dan he charges the battery like 6 times charge/ month , how much is he going to pay for the electric bill monthly? Compared to buying the gas car monthly, which one it is going to cost a fortune?

1.33 hrs at 440V, that is even better and quicker to charge the battery, but is it going to cost a fortune when paying the electric bill monthly?

Most people aren’t aware where the energy comes from to charge those toys.  At best it’s a carbon neutral event because it will take tons and tons of coal to charge all our electric vehicles.

And then part of the master plan is…..

wait for it……pull the rug out from us because we all followed along…

Oops our bad no more coal burning anymore. They’ve already tried to kill the coal industry so imho not far fetched.  Everybody will be stuck at home and can’t even get to work. Controls us and kills the economy all in one easy stroke.
