Ada 1.016 Varian Covid-19 Terdeteksi di Indonesia, Delta Paling Banyak di Jawa

Suara.com - The Ministry of Health noted that there have been 1,016 cases of mutation of the Covid-19 virus in the country which are included in the variant of concern or variant of concern from the WHO World Health Organization.

In data from the Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) of the Ministry of Health as of July 27, 2021, there were 3,650 specimens examined using the whole genome sequencing method, and 1,016 new variants were found.

The variant B.1617.2 Delta became the most common variant with 943 cases.

DKI Jakarta (the capital city) is the province with the most Delta variants, with 298 cases, then West Java with 277 cases, Central Java with 164 cases, DI Yogyakarta with 20 cases, Banten with 17 cases, East Java with 14 cases, and Bali with 8 cases.
While outside Java-Bali, the Delta variant spread in East Nusa Tenggara 41 cases, North Sumatra 20 cases, West Nusa Tenggara 16 cases, East Kalimantan 13 cases, South Sulawesi 11 cases, South Sumatra 10 cases, and Papua 10 cases.

Meanwhile, 10 cases of B.117 Alfa were detected and 13 cases of B.1351 Beta were detected.

These three variants are labeled Variant of Concern (VoC) by WHO because they can affect the nature of transmission, sensitivity of test kits, severity of symptoms, and the ability of the virus to evade the immune system.

2 COVID-19 cases in the Province of Jambi are not the Delta Plus variant, but the local variant
Mon, August 2, 2021 8.06 AM

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Director of the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, Prof. Amin Soebandrio, straightened out the two cases of the Delta Plus variant of the Corona virus found in Jambi Province.

According to Amin, after further correction, it turned out that the two COVID-19 cases in Jambi were not included in the Delta Plus variant. But the Indonesian local variant of the Corona virus B.1466.2.

"Today (Sunday, August 1, 2021) there is a change based on a deeper molecular study, it turns out that there is only one Delta Plus, namely the one in Mamuju," Amin said as quoted by Antara on Monday morning, August 2, 2021.

Previously, it was reported that there were three cases of the Delta Plus variant of the Corona virus spread in two regions, two cases in Jambi and one case in Mamuju, South Sulawesi.

This change means that there is only one case of COVID-19 caused by the Delta Plus variant of the Corona virus in Indonesia, namely in Mamuju.

Delta Plus Variant Derived from Corona Virus Delta Variant
Amin further explained that the Delta Plus variant is a derivative of the Delta variant which underwent an additional mutation, in which the amino acid leucine in the protein portion was replaced with Asparagine (N).

In addition, Amin also answered concerns about the Delta Plus variant which is said to be more dangerous.

According to Amin, Eijkman does not have enough strong evidence to date, "because the number of isolates is still small.".

Delta Plus Variant Cause Severe Symptoms?
Based on observations of cases in Indonesia, Amin continued, there is no scientific data that the Delta variant of the Corona virus can cause more severe symptoms.

Because, not all of those infected with the Delta variant are heavy, and not all of the current heavy patients are because of Delta.

"So, Delta's relationship with increased morbidity and mortality in Indonesia does not yet have strong evidence support," he said.
