VIVA – The President of the United States (US), Joe Biden alluded to Indonesia in his speech in front of US intelligence officials on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. In his statement, Biden mentioned the prediction that the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, would sink in the next 10 years.

This is due to the phenomenon of climate change which makes a country unstable. That's why the Indonesian government wants to move its capital city to Kalimantan.

"But what happens, what happens in Indonesia if the projections are right that, in the next 10 years, they may have to move the capital city because they will be underwater?" Biden said in a speech at the US Counter Terrorism Headquarters.

"That's important. This is a strategic question, namely a question about the environment," he continued

Biden reminded the US intelligence community that an important and impactful threat to all nations is the challenge of climate change. According to Biden, climate change has accelerated instability in the US and around the world.

Extreme weather, food and water insecurity, rising sea levels, lead to climate change and encourage greater migration and pose fundamental risks to the most vulnerable communities.

Therefore, Biden asked the intelligence community to anticipate this situation and think of a way out of each threat.

"I will never forget the first time I was sworn in as Vice President, after I was elected. The Department of Defense said what the greatest threat facing America was: Climate change," Biden said.

"If, in fact, sea levels rose another two and a half feet, you would have millions of people migrating, fighting over fertile land. You look at what is happening in North Africa. What makes us think this is unimportant? It's not your responsibility. , but it's something you watch because you know what's going to happen."
