Officially.. Gulf 25 postponed in Basra

180

Today, Monday, the Arab Gulf Cup Federation announced the postponement of the Gulf Cup "Gulf 25" until January 2023.

The Federation stated on its website, "The extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation decided to postpone the 25th Gulf Cup Championship to January 2023, during the meeting held today under the chairmanship of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Federation."

The Executive Office of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation decided at the end of last May to hold the 25th edition of the Gulf Cup in Iraq, after Qatar apologized for hosting it, in support of the city of Basra in southern Iraq, in order to organize it.

The Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports, Adnan Darjal, said in a press statement, "The meeting of the Executive Office of the Federations of the Gulf States led to the postponement of the 25th Gulf Championship to January of the year 2023, while Iraq, and Basra in particular, retained the right to organize it."

He added, "The meeting set July 30, 2022 as a deadline for completing all the requirements of the tournament, provided that the engineering inspection committees continue their communication with Iraq in this regard."

Derjal pointed out that "Iraq has fulfilled all the requirements and will gain more time to prepare it in the best way."

It was hoped that Iraq would host the 25th Gulf Championship next December, as it had not hosted it since 1979, and sought to host it in recent editions, but it did not succeed in that because of the security conditions it is witnessing.

It is noteworthy that 6 of the eight teams participating in the Gulf Cup will participate in the Arab Cup finals that will be held in Qatar between November 31 and December 18, 2021, namely Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Oman.
