Baghdad-Al-Sharqiya, March 11: The President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, said that the March 11th agreement in 1970 with the government was a gateway to a new stage of struggle and a great step towards achieving great gains and victories for the Kurdish people. To sign the March agreement, denying and ignoring the rights of the people of Kurdistan and violating the constitutional and legal agreements and principles related to their rights does not in any way break their will because the people of Kurdistan have long experiences of struggle, awareness and steadfastness. It is noteworthy that the agreement stipulated the establishment of an autonomous region for the governorates of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk, and constitutional amendments stipulating that the Kurdish nationalism is considered the second in Iraq after Arabic, and that the Kurdish language is considered the first in the autonomous regions, and that a Kurdish vice president is appointed with five ministers in the government, Promote Kurdish culture by establishing broadcast stations and Kurdish-speaking newspapers.

The following is the text of the statement: Today we commemorate the fifty-first anniversary of the March 11, 1970 agreement, which was a historic achievement of the great September revolution led by the immortal Barzani. The struggle of the Kurdish people forced the Iraqi government, for the first time, to formally recognize part of the legitimate national rights of the people of Kurdistan. Unfortunately, the Iraqi government soon violated the agreement at a later time, and as a result it resorted to violence and war against the people of Kurdistan. The March 11 agreement was the product of the struggle and sacrifices of all classes and the different components of the people of Kurdistan, and their desire for peaceful coexistence and the rejection of war and devastation. On this occasion, we stress the fundamental solution of our problems with the federal government on the basis of preserving and ensuring the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan and laying the foundations and principles of the federal system in Iraq. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, March 11, 2021
