Saleh asks the Pope to pursue the initiative to establish religious dialogue with the participation of Najaf and Al-Azhar

President of the Republic Barham Salih in a welcoming speech to the Pope of the Vatican

Your quest for peaceful coexistence is respected

Thank you for responding to the invitation of the Iraqis. We appreciate the humanitarian and religious visit and the evidence of its keenness on Iraq.

We ask for your follow-up and deep compassion for the tragedy that Iraqis have lived through as a result of wars and foreign interventions.

The Iraqis feel proud of your insistence on the visit despite the misfortune to postpone it, and that bypassing considerations doubles the value of the visit for us.

Iraqis are proud that they have lived for a long time in cities of various affiliation, adjacent to each other in the same neighborhood and adjacent to churches, mosques and hissinenat.

After the terrorists attacked the Church of Our Lady of Deliverance, the young men came to the side of the Christian youths to defend Al-Kanai.

The unforgettable scenes of the liberation of Mosul, showing Muslim soldiers covering their faces in the dirt of battles, returning the cross to its place in the church, and the officer saluting the statue of the Virgin and Christ.

The association of diversity and peaceful coexistence is an entrenched value in Iraq.

Christianity embraced Islam in the birth of Islam, as the Christian Negus told the Muslim Jafar that religions are no different.

Unfortunately, our world lives today in a time of intersections and polarizations, where the capabilities of transgression and acceptance of the other opinion are taken, and terrorism fuels the perpetration of excuses, and this threatens our entire future, and we must continue to work to combat extremist ideology, and turn it into strength and cohesion.

It is the best gift we give for the future of the next generation.

For decades, the people were victims of wars. Thousands of Iraqis were executed and absent, chemical weapons were used in Halabja, mass graves, and the marshes drained.

In the last two decades, we have lived through the biggest war against terrorism, destroyed cities, abandoning women, destroying churches, and destroying the effects of the most horrific violations against the Yazidis and targeting the components of the Iraqi people. We pray for the victims of terrorism and remember the war martyrs of the army, the police, the crowd, the Peshmerga, and the civilians who sacrificed.

We refer to the suffering experienced by Christians who were forced to leave their homeland, and the difficult circumstances were, and still are.

There are those who lose everyone's money in the black chaos, and there is no solution except with cooperation for the sake of a common solution. The wounds that afflicted Iraq require that it be an arena for harmony and cooperation, not an arena for disharmony, and for it to be independent and sovereign and a basic pillar of the human system.

The Christians of Iraq, the land of this land and its salt, stood up to face various challenges, and their tragedy was of great impact. They were subjected to various crises that worked to limit their existence. Their continued emigration, along with my brother’s whereabouts, would have dire consequences, so it is impossible to imagine the East without Christians.

Success cannot be achieved without the return of the displaced, and it requires action and realization of an attractive national environment, led by Christians and Sabeans.

The Pope’s visit is a historic opportunity to reaffirm love and peace and accept the other in terms that reach the heart of the world. We are descendants of Abraham, the followers of religions.

We will not accept terrorism, the practice of extremism in the name of religion. The Iraqis have the right to be a moment of security, stability and peace, and it deserves the best, and the region deserves more, and we can do that with cooperation.

We hope that the initiative of Beit Ibrahim for religious dialogue will be pursued under the supervision of the Vatican, Najaf, Al-Azhar and Al-Zeitoun.

We gather her surgeons, thanks for the generous historic visit, and we are honored to invite you

Yea, because they can't reform anything at 1450 or 1190...I understand what they are trying to do with corruption but how long can the people tolerate not have purchasing power before they start rebelling. Someone stated it will be another year to 3 years before anything happens and if that is the case there will be no more Iraq if it takes that long. I am hoping something will happen within the next few months with all that is going on HCL etc...let's go Iraq RV and join the rest of the world!!

They have certainly survived the last eighteen years ,  they will continue to survive for however long it takes..,

Iraq has gotten quite great at getting debt forgiven and borrowing

I have to agree Coorslite21, I would assume even our military is on high alert. Normally the Pope wont go into high risk countries, so maybe this says something about Iraq and its future and currency. Now if something does go wrong while he's visiting. (IMO) I would have to believe that would or could hold up a lot of things possibly.
