Flattening "flat" Earth errant assertions since the Beginning Of Creation.......

I’ve also noticed that flat-earthers generally don’t understand, and hence don’t engage in, rational arguments. Many flat-earthers use memes to make their case for flat earth on social media. Usually, they post these memes without comment, apparently thinking that the meme makes all the appropriate and necessary comments.. Many of these memes contain misspellings and grammatical errors, which makes them difficult to follow sometimes. Most of the memes contain false information. These memes must pass around within flat-earth groups in social media where they receive zero scrutiny. When flat-earthers finally post the memes outside of the flat-earth echo chambers, they often are surprised by the sharp, and well deserved, criticism that they encounter. Yet, the firm believers of a flat earth are never deterred by this, because, as I pointed out before, flat-earthers have zero skepticism of flat-earth claims and impossibly high skepticism for any opposing positions.

Another demonstration of the inability of many flat-earthers to argue properly is their proclivity of simply stating truth as they understand it. In a discussion group that I participate in, one flat-earther, when confronted with an argument devastating to his position, frequently responds with the comment “The earth is flat!” Apparently, this person, along with many other flat-earthers (he isn’t alone in this sort of behavior), thinks that simply asserting what he thinks to be true is a proper way of arguing a proposition. He and too many other flat-earthers fail to understand that simply stating something (even if it is true) doesn’t constitute an argument for why it is true.

Flat earthers often mistake geocentrism with flat earth. While the flat-earth model must be geocentric, there is a long history of geocentric belief accompanied by the belief that the earth is a sphere. That was the dominant cosmology in the West for two millennia, at least from the time of Aristotle until the early 17th century. Many of the arguments that flat-earthers use are lifted from the modern geocentric movement. Yes, geocentrism is a thing too. While modern geocentrism has been around for nearly a half-century, it now has far fewer adherents than flat earth does. Flat-earthers seem to think that an argument for geocentrism automatically is an argument for a flat earth, but in many respects the two are unrelated

MAYBE, the "flat" Earth "adherents" are better served by a pancake Earth Map depicting BOTH the northern AND Southern Hemispheres WITH each having a pole.

NO "south" "pole" "ice" "wall"........

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, "flat" Earth "adherents" can show OTHER planets in THIS solar system are "pancake" TOO so WE CAN ALL HAVE A STACK OF YUMMY PLANETARY PANCAKES!!!

Can This New Map Fix Our Distorted Views of the World?

You’re going to need some double-sided tape.

This new double-sided disk map aims to minimize six types of map distortions. Animation by J. Richard Gott, Robert Vanderbei and David Goldberg.

Most of the world maps you’ve seen in your life are past their prime. The Mercator was devised by a Flemish cartographer in 1569. The Winkel Tripel, the map style favored by National Geographic, dates to 1921. And the Dymaxion map, hyped by the architect Buckminster Fuller, debuted in a 1943 issue of Life.

Enter a brash new world map vying for global domination. Like sports, the mapmaking game can sometimes grow stale when top competitors are stuck on the same old strategy, said J. Richard Gott, an astrophysicist at Princeton who had previously mapped the entire universe. But then along comes an innovator: Think Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, splashing 3-pointers from areas of the court the rest of basketball hadn’t thought were worth guarding.

“We were sort of reaching the limit of what you could do,” Dr. Gott said. “If you wanted any significant breakthrough, you had to use a new idea.”

Dr. Gott’s version of Steph Curry’s wait-you-could-shoot-from-there 3? Use the back of the page, too. Make the world map a double-sided circle, like a vinyl record. You could put the Northern Hemisphere on the top side, and the Southern Hemisphere on the bottom, or vice versa. Or to put it differently: You could deflate the 3-D Earth into two dimensions. And if you did, you could blow the accuracy of previous maps out of the water.

No flat map of our round world can be perfect, of course. First you need to peel off Earth’s skin, then pin it down. This mathematical taxidermy introduces distortions. If you have a Mercator projection on your classroom walls, for example, you may grow up thinking Greenland is the size of Africa (not even close) or Alaska looms larger than Mexico (also nope). This warped worldview might even bias you, subconsciously, to under-appraise most of the developing world.

Shapes also change in map projections. Distances vary. Straight lines curve. Some projections, such as Mercator, aim to excel at one of these concerns, which aggravates other errors. Other maps compromise, like the Winkel Tripel, so named because it tries to strike a balance between three kinds of distortion.

A 1569 Mercator projection map.

Starting in 2006, Dr. Gott and David Goldberg, a cosmologist at Drexel University in Philadelphia, developed a scoring system that could sum up these different kinds of error. The Winkel Tripel beat out other major contenders. But one big source of distortion persisted: a mathematical incision, often running from pole to pole down the Pacific. The resulting shape can never again be stretched and pulled back into the unbroken surface of a sphere. “This does violence to the globe,” Dr. Gott said.

His new kind of double-sided map, crafted with Dr. Goldberg and Robert Vanderbei, a mathematician at Princeton, skips the topological violence entirely. The map simply continues over the edge. You could stretch a string over the side; an ant could walk there. Without any cut, the map’s Goldberg-Gott distortion score blows all other maps currently in use out of the water, the team reports in a draft study.

Cartographers who regularly study world maps — perhaps fewer than 10 people — will now have time to react. “It never came up to me that it could be done in this way,” said Krisztian Kerkovits, a Hungarian cartographer working to develop his own projections.

The Winkel Tripel projection, which is so-called because it aims to minimize three kinds of distortion: area, direction and distance.

But while the new map excels at addressing distortion, Dr. Kerkovits said it also introduced a new weakness. You can see only half of the planet at once, unlike the Winkel Tripel and Mercator. That undermines the basic premise of flaying out the whole world for inspection on a single page or screen.

To Dr. Gott, this is no different than the 3-D globe itself. But Dr. Kerkovits isn’t quite sure: After all, you can always rotate a globe slightly to see the neighbors of any chosen point. But in the double-sided map, you might have to flip the entire thing.

Ultimately a map’s success depends on which applications it’s used for, and how its popularity grows over time. Dr. Gott, whose paper also presents double-sided projections of Jupiter and other worlds, envisions the new map style as a physical object to turn over in your hands.

You could cut one out of a magazine, or you could store a whole stack of them in a thin sleeve, showing different planets or different data layers. And he hopes you may be tempted to try to print out and make your own using the appendix of his paper.

“Glue it back to back with double-stick tape — I think that’s better than Elmer’s Glue, but you can use glue,” Dr. Gott said. Then cut it out. “Maybe use card stock paper,” he added.

There is NOTHING RATIONAL whatsoever in your pathetic diarrhea mouth rants. You attack and insult members (and even this site) with little more than copy and paste unintelligible commentary, salted with a sad attempt at etymological superiority. Few people ever read an entire post You make.

Blinded by your own perceived superiority you ramble on like a blind child in a China Parlor.

So which is it?

I am ONLY posting credible sources to show I am not acting in malice.

You, @MyLadiesDaddy, quote me and I am not to respond to you?

Compassionate intervention is always difficult for people like yourself, @MyLadiesDaddy.

The “flat” Earth CULT has taken you, @MyLadiesDaddy.

I do NOT want to see people hurt by the “flat” Earth CULT or to stand back and let others be hurt by the “flat” Earth CULT.

Here at DinarVets, too.

The posts I have made are sincere of my own perspective and of others who also have independent studied the matter and have come to the right conclusions.

The behavior you are demonstrating, @MyLadiesDaddy, is typical of people taken in by a CULT.

People, such as yourself @MyLadiesDaddy, callously dismiss and vigorously resist reasonable and valid perspectives showing the errancy of the “flat” Earth CULT belief system and practices.

You can personally verify the fallacy of the “flat” Earth CULT by witnessing the Sun and Moon rise AND set.

The “flat” Earth CULT has the Sun AND Moon appearing and disappearing in the sky.

There are also man made Global Positioning Satellites among many other satellites.

The “flat” Earth CULT misconstrues the Bible noting the Earth is “flat” as has been noted extensively by credible Bible Scholars.

Yes, I will continue to compassionately intervene with you, @MyLadiesDaddy, for your benefit and others.

Flattening "flat" Earth errant assertions since The Beginning Of Creation.......

A very good and comprehensive video noting the errant "flat" Earth interpretations and misconstruals the Bible notes the Earth is "flat".

Albeit a long video but one that uses the directly relevant Hebrew and Greek to note the errant "flat" Earth interpretations of the Bible.

Not far after the 29 minute mark, the Pastor notes the "flat" Earth errant interpretation of Isaiah 66:1 to be construed as the Earth is "flat".

Not far after the 41 minute mark, the Pastor notes the "flat" Earth errant interpretation of Isaiah 44:22 to be construed as the Earth is "flat".

All this to give comfort to know God would NEVER LIE to ANYONE or lead them astray in to error like "flat" Earth baseless assertions.

Also, the video gives a great explanation to assist those giving aide to those who have gone astray into the "flat" Earth cult.

The Sun and Moon rise and set.

The Sun and Moon do not appear and disappear in the sky above.

There really are man made Global Positioning Satellites orbiting the Spherical (geiodal) Earth and have been doing so for multiple decades so people can locate their postion on the Spherical (geoidal) Earth and subsequently navigate.

Navigating from Polaris is ONLY possible in the Northern Hemisphere on the Spherical (geoidal) Earth at night and when there is not cloud cover obstructing Polaris.

Navigating from the Southern Cross related stars is ONLY possible in the Southern Hemisphere on the Spherical (geoidal) Earth at night and when there is not cloud cover obstructing the Southern Cross related stars.

Intervention is like when you, "See Something. Do Something." for Safety and Save My Life related items for one's own safety and that of the others.

Like here at DinarVets.

Act Safe AND Be Safe EVERYBODY!!!

Here is a bonus notation to show how "flat" Earth "adherents" have NOT thought through THEIR FOOLISH "models".

The equatorial distance around the Spherical (geoidal) Earth is nominally 24,901 miles.

So, in the "flat" Earth "model" the distance from the ice wall through THEIR North Pole to the opposite ice wall is double that distance or, nominally 49,802 miles.

The circumference is then nominally 49,802 miles x PI = 156,458 miles.

The tangential velocity at the ice wall for the stars circling above in the "flat" Earth "model" is nominally then 156,458 miles/24 hours = 6,519 miles/hour or, nominally mach 8.78.

At that circumferential velocity, the friction of the rotating "flat" Earth "firmament" "above" acting against the sea level atmospheric air at nominally 29.92 inches of Mercury (absolute) pressure would cause SO MUCH HEAT THE ICE WALL WILL MELT AND THE OCEANS WILL DRAIN INTO, well, WHATEVER THEE "flat" Earth "adherents" "believe" UNTIL THEE OCEANS ARE BONE DRY.

Well, of course, we STILL have MULTIPLE oceans on the Spherical (geoidal) Earth so, INDEED, "flat" Earth is REALLY, REALLY STUPID!!!

"flat" Earth.

You can say that again!

Seriously though...

This is the real proof earth is flat...

There is no nearest star to the sun...

Just pinholes in the firmament— metal dome...

Sorry caddieman I really liked the cat’s theory, too...

Well, NOW, we have seen plenty of flat-earther memes WITHOUT any comment today NOW haven't we.

THIS was noted earlier in THIS thread at the top of THIS page.

Proof POSITIVE.
