I have been to South Africa.

 

I can see Polaris (The North Star) in the sky where I live in the Northern Hemisphere and EVERYWHERE I have traveled in the Northern Hemisphere to include Alaska, Canada, and parts of Western Europe. I can NOT see the Southern Cross in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere.

 

When I was in South Africa, I could see the Sourthern Cross in the sky while I could NOT see Polaris while I was in South Africa.
