Hey tjokie, I believe it was Jefferson, who said (not quoting) that the beginning of the downfall of any country like the US is when the people realize they can take largess from the treasury for free. And we have been there a large part if not all of my 70 years here on earth.

Former The United States Of America President Thomas Jefferson may have said it while Alexander Fraser Tytler appears to be the originator of the quote.

Alexander Fraser Tytler quotes Showing 1-4 of 4

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”

In small government, we are CITIZENS and we have a voice.

In large governments, we are SUBJECTS  and we DO get pissed on.

Thanks for finding that Synopsis, it was spot on. The point to take from this whole discussion, is we the people elect our officials. They work for us. How we forget that, so when the "officials" start giving away freebies paid for with our $$, many of the recipients have not paid into the system, (no skin in the game) but are reaping the benefits of free shiite. Thus the tide turns to where we get a permanent class of scumbag corrupt politicians who remain in their position by giving away OPM which they either took thru taxes or created out of thin air via QE and $$ printing. And down the bankrupt rabbit hole we go.

Looks like it is all how one chooses to hold themself as being under the Pursuit Of Life, Liberty, AND The Pursuit Of Happiness (Citizen - LEGAL, of course) OR being ruled over as bleeple sheeple ("subject").

noun

  1. a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized.
    "a Polish citizen"

      sub·ject

      noun

      2. 2.
a branch of knowledge studied or taught in a school, college, or university.
"math is not my best subject"

      adjective

      /ˈsəbjekt/

      2. 2.
        dependent or conditional upon.
"the proposed merger is subject to the approval of the shareholders"

      adverb

      /ˈsəbjekt/
      1. conditionally upon.
"subject to bankruptcy court approval, the company expects to begin liquidation of its inventory"

      verb

      /səbˈjekt/
      1. 1.
cause or force to undergo (a particular experience of form of treatment).
"he'd subjected her to a terrifying ordeal"

      2. 2.
bring (a person or country) under one's control or jurisdiction, typically by using force.
"the city had been subjected to Macedonian rule"

Yeah, I am a Citizen (noun) NOT a "subject"  (verb).
