Mike Lindell’s rant made his interviewer visibly uncomfortable, possibly because the channel has been threatened with a lawsuit for airing baseless election-fraud claims

Things went sideways just 10 seconds into Newsmax TV’s interview Tuesday afternoon with Mike “MyPillow Guy” Lindell, the pillow-company executive who rose to fame in conservative circles because of his effusive praise of former president Donald Trump.

 

Appearing on the conservative cable news channel, Lindell was asked to discuss Twitter’s decision to ban him for repeatedly spreading misinformation about the 2020 presidential election, which he has insisted for weeks was stolen from Trump.

The MyPillow chief executive immediately launched into an attack on Dominion Voting Systems, an election technology company that has become the subject of baseless accusations related to the election. He said his Twitter feed “was taken down because we have all the election fraud with these Dominion machines. We have 100 percent proof.”

 

Co-anchor Bob Sellers tried to cut Lindell off. “Mike, Mike, Mike. ... We at Newsmax have not been able to verify any of those kinds of allegations,” he said. “We just want to let people know that there’s nothing substantive that we have seen. And let me read you something.”

Lindell just kept talking, his words muted and mostly indecipherable, while Sellers looked down and began to read from what sounded like a legal disclaimer: “Newsmax accepts the [election] results as legal and final. The courts have also supported that view.”

What was left unsaid was that Newsmax has recently faced legal threats from Dominion and Smartmatic, another voting technology company that has threatened to sue right-wing news outlets and personalities for spreading what the companies claim is defamatory misinformation about their role in the election.

 

In late December, a law firm representing Dominion sent a letter to Newsmax promising imminent litigation over “false statements you have recently published regarding Dominion.” No such lawsuit has been filed, but the possibility of a libel case clearly has the networks worried. Newsmax and Fox News have issued extraordinary on-air “clarifications” since the election, essentially disavowing the claims of fraud they had repeatedly aired.

On Tuesday, Sellers tried to get a steaming Lindell back on cue: “We wanted to talk to you about canceling culture, if you will. We don’t want to re-litigate the allegations that you’re making, Mike.”

But Lindell wouldn’t stop talking about fraud. The Newsmax anchor finally asked his producers to end the segment. “Can we get out of here, please?” he asked.

 

Then the anchor simply got up and walked off the set. His co-anchor, former Fox News anchor Heather Childers, was tasked with taking over the segment and trying to calm Lindell down.

 

A spokesperson for Lindell and MyPillow did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “Newsmax and its anchor only wanted to make clear that it has found no evidence of software manipulation involving the election,” network spokesman Brian Peterson said in a statement to The Washington Post. “However, Mr. Lindell is entitled to his own opinion and has a different viewpoint than ours.”

Something similar happened in late December, when Lindell was cut off during a Newsmax segment after saying that “the biggest fraud is the Dominion machines.”

While Newsmax has been able to win over some conservative viewers, Tuesday’s clash could tamp down enthusiasm for the network among Trump’s strongest supporters.

“Newsmax is a joke!” one wrote on Twitter.

“VERY disappointing,” said another.

Seems they came to terms on an interview format.....they shut his false Dominion machine claims down earlier and he apparently agreed not to mention those salacious unfounded claims again in the second interview.  You could see he was trying really hard not to utter the word "Dominion".....Newsmax and My Pillow remain friends....tragedy averted.

Cable News Ratings Tighten With Big Months for CNN, MSNBC

Cable news has never been more in vogue, and more competitive.

Several programs on MSNBC and CNN had their most-watched months ever in January, the Nielsen company said. CNN as a network did so, too, in a newsy month where the Capitol insurrection and President Joe Biden's inauguration left a lot to talk about.

For the weekday prime-time schedule — the heart of the networks — MSNBC averaged 3.31 million viewers, CNN had 3.12 million and Fox News Channel had 2.89 million. Fox has been the top-rated cable news network for 19 years, and this represented the first month it finished third to its rivals since 1999, Nielsen said.

The total day average viewership was remarkably tight: 1.38 million for MSNBC up 11% from a year ago), 1.32 million for Fox (down 31%) and 1.28 million for CNN (up 48%).

Fox News returned to the top in prime-time ratings last week, the first full week of the Biden administration, Nielsen said. The major trends are continuing, however: CNN is markedly up over last year, MSNBC is up by a smaller margin and Fox is declining.

For the week, CBS was the most-watched broadcast network, averaging 4.7 million viewers in prime time. ABC had 3.6 million, NBC had 3 million, Fox had 2.6 million, Univision had 1.4 million, Telemundo had 1.12 million and Ion Television had 1.11 million.

Fox News Channel led among the cable networks, averaging 2.56 million viewers. MSNBC had 2.23 million, CNN had 1.79 million, HGTV had 1.33 million and History had 1.03 million.

ABC's “World News Tonight” led the evening news ratings race with an average of 9.9 million viewers. NBC's “Nightly News” had 8.3 million and the “CBS Evening News” had 6.2 million.

I agree with that sentiment....but it plays both ways as well.  People who leave or ignore news because they can't accept their reality may be false is also very naive, and dangerous.

 

I completely understand CNN's ratings being down....many people have cut their cable news consumption way back since politics has become boring again, as the sideshow that was the previous administration has been cancelled....as it should be.  Now if congress would get it's act together and start acting like adults, maybe they could accomplish some bipartisan legislation.

I for one, appreciate "Big Tech" censoring proven falsities, filtering out the BS.....this thread is about the same thing, Newsmax would not allow the My Pillow guy to push the false Dominion story....it's not censoring, it's responsible reporting by not allowing unproven allegations to be propagated.

In this case "FEAR" was what led the anchor to walk.

 

Lindell is a big financial sponsor of Newsmax....yet the fear that has been generated by this new cancel culture.....a fear of having the Newsmax network shut down was what caused the reaction.

 

Parler was shut down, Conservatives free speech on social media has been canceled....conservative youtubers have been demonitized or cut off......

 

The left wants to throw the 100+ in Congress out ....those that supported Trumps election fraud theory......they have openly stated they want to get rid of FOX...OANN ....and Newsmax......they're going ahead with a second this time illegal sham impeachment of Trump...

Newsmax anchor Bob Sellers issued an apology after storming out of a live interview with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, as the pro-Trump guest refused to stop pushing conspiracy theories about voter fraud on his show.

The anchor of the conservative news outlet was back on screens on Wednesday, and told viewers he got “frustrated” as his guest continued to veer off topic. Sellers blamed himself in part for the confusion, as he attempted to pacify both viewers and Mr Lindell – who is also one of the channel’s biggest sponsors.

Sellers promised the channel’s viewers that the Trump-supporting pillow-maker would continue to be a regular and “important” guest on the channel.

 

Mr Lindell had been invited on to Tuesday’s show to discuss “free speech and cancel culture” after his Twitter account was, like that of Donald Trump himself, permanently banned. The executive had repeatedly pushed the former president’s rhetoric over election fraud claims.

But Mr Lindell, who is facing a potential lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems over his unsubstantiated claims of machines being rigged, instead used the interview as a platform to again rant about the election.

Sellers repeatedly interrupted Mr Lindell, eventually turning off his microphone, and read a prepared statement to reject Mr Lindell’s election fraud claims before storming off set.

The anchor, who was himself accused of engaging in “cancel culture” by the channel’s pro-Trump audience on social media, said he could have handled things differently.

“If you watched American Agenda yesterday, you may have seen something out of the ordinary happen during an interview with Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow,” Sellers said on Wednesday afternoon. “Mike is a friend of this network, and we were supposed to discuss Twitter’s decision to ban him and the impacts of cancel culture on his business.”

He attributed the incident over confusion about what was supposed to be the topic of the segment.

“Mike thought that we were to talk about vote fraud in the recent election. It’s a topic we have covered extensively on Newsmax,” the host said.

“I was frustrated that we couldn’t focus on the current, very pressing issue of free speech and cancel culture and, in hindsight, there is no question that I could have handled the end of the interview differently,” he added.

Analysts saw Newsmax, which rose to greater prominence after it was praised by Mr Trump for its favourable coverage of his attempts to fight the election result, has dialled down its pro-Trump stance in recent weeks after being threatened with lawsuits.

Two major voting machine companies, Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic, have threatened to sue the channel and others accused of promoting false conspiracy theories that damage their reputation.

“We at Newsmax have not been able to verify any of those kinds of allegations,” Sellers said as Mr Lindell again spoke out against Dominion on his show. “We just want to let people know that there’s nothing substantive about them.”

The videos of Sellers’ walkout went viral on social media and drew condemnation from many Trump supporters, some of whom called for the anchor to be fired.

Sellers concluded his apology by saying that Mr Lindell was already back on Newsmax by Tuesday night.
