Hussein said, in a statement carried by Al-Arabiya and Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath, that "Iraq asked Iran to intervene to stop targeting the Green Zone," warning that "Washington may take drastic measures if its embassy is targeted." He added, "Baghdad is working with diplomatic missions to provide the necessary protection," noting that "the missile attacks on the Green Zone embarrass the government." He noted, "Iraqi forces have arrested a number of the perpetrators of the attacks on the Green Zone," stressing that they "are working hard to stop these attacks." He noted, "The government is working to prevent uncontrolled weapons in the country before holding the elections in which the United Nations' participation was discussed to ensure its success." He pointed out, "Iraq needs the coalition forces to confront ISIS, as well as training," explaining that "the terrorist organization is still present in the border areas with Syria." The foreign minister rejected "foreign interference in the internal affairs of his country," stressing that "the tension between Washington and Iran negatively affects the Iraqi arena." On the relationship with Saudi Arabia, Hussein referred to "the great development in relations with Saudi Arabia on many files," explaining that "Iraq looks forward to working with President Joe Biden's administration."
