A member of the Economy Committee in the House of Representatives, Nada Shaker, revealed, on Monday, two steps that can be implemented at the border crossings that will ensure that revenues reach the state treasury without being stolen .

Shaker said, "The Economic Committee provided many solutions and treatments for the government in order to control the revenues of the border crossings," noting that "the percentage of lost revenue that goes to the pockets of the corrupt is estimated annually at more than 4 billion dollars ."

 Baghdad: Haider Al-Rubaie
The consultant in industrial development and investment, Amer Issa Al-Jawahiri, recommended the necessity of activating customs collection operations at the border ports of goods and merchandise, the likes of which are manufactured locally, and seeking to provide various forms of protection for the national product, as well as canceling customs “exceptions” for some imported materials.
These recommendations come with the aim of providing the maximum possible protection for the local product, calls that are consistent with the government’s aspirations to activate the role of the national industry, revive the private sector’s factories, and enable it to compete with imported materials, as stipulated by a number of points of the reform white paper.
Al-Jawahiri pointed out, during his speech to Al-Sabah, that {the local product, despite its smallness, needs various types of protection, empowerment and support to expand and grow, and at the same time, the many stalled factories need guarantees, empowerment and great support to restore work and continue competition} .
The consultant praised the directions of the National Investment Commission, which announced through its president, Suha Al-Najjar, during the opening of the first international investment conference in Basra governorate last week, the activation of investment mechanisms in industrial projects, stressing that this trend is necessary and important, but it needs integrated and effective empowerment programs.
Al-Jawahiri believes that one of the most important ways to empower the national product is to activate the mechanisms of customs collection on products, the likes of which are manufactured inside the country, calling for allocating a certain percentage of the collection funds to develop the national industry, operate the stalled factories, and encourage new ones.
The industrial development consultant also stressed the need to adhere to customs tariff decisions,
Especially for the goods covered by protection, with the need for a clear methodology for tariff and collection rates that seeks to stay away from exceptions and frequent changes and the exclusion of exemptions for any party, noting that {the irregularity of the policy and methodology of tariff and tax rates} is a matter that could confuse the industrial development process and the capabilities of the private sector and investors. .
Al-Jawahiri referred to the role of the Industrial Coordination Council and the private sector in expressing opinions that would revive the role of industry, calling at the same time to the need to activate the role of the "Ministerial Council of Economy" as the body that is supposed to manage the country's economic file within the paths of diversifying the local economy and development comprehensive. The consultant pointed out that one of the most important factors for attracting local and foreign direct investments aimed at implementing industrial projects for the production of various types of goods is through securing the prior protection of its products.
