Mubasher: Ahmed Abdul Sattar, Director of Passports Affairs in Iraq, said that the Directorate has completed all procedures related to the initiation of issuing the electronic passport, as it has reached advanced stages, with regard to the project of twinning passports and the unified card.

Today, Thursday, Ahmed Abdul Sattar confirmed in statements to the Iraqi News Agency "INA" that the Directorate needs financial allocations to launch the project.

He pointed out that working with the electronic system will provide a complete database, which will shorten many steps for issuing the unified passport and card.

He added that work on this project will take place after transforming all civil status departments into offices to issue the national card.

And he indicated that the adoption of the electronic passport does not mean the cancellation of the current passport, which is currently in force in the country, but that the citizen is provided with the new electronic passport, after the expiration of the period allowed for working with this passport.

He explained that the implementation of the new electronic system for issuing passports, as well as the national card, will work to create a common database for all citizens preserved with the directorate.

He stressed that this database will contribute to shortening many of the steps and procedures followed when reviewing any of the civil status, travel and residence directorates, as it contains all the information that the citizen needs to obtain a passport or national card.

He mentioned that the directorate’s workers can identify the citizen, through an eye or fingerprint that is saved in the database, which is saved upon our first review of issuing a national card or passport, stressing that “this mechanism will prevent any attempt to forge these papers by the weak Souls.
