The Parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee stressed, on Tuesday, the need to combat corruption in all joints of the state, while it revealed a set of solutions to confront the current financial crisis .

A member of the committee, Deputy Yahya Al-Ithawi, said in a statement to the official agency today, October 13, 2020, that his committee presented a set of solutions to the current crisis, including activating taxes on imports as well as on the sale of hard currency in the Central Bank, in addition to obtaining electricity, water and other services levies. As well as activating the industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors and encouraging investment by granting new opportunities to investors, whether by the national authority or bodies in the governorates, in order to maximize the state’s financial resources, and not to rely on oil.

Al-Ithawi added that "the government is calling on parliament to approve the borrowing law to pay the salaries of the coming months, due to the state's dependence on the single resource, which is oil," noting that "the low oil prices showed the defects of the Iraqi economy, and its total dependence on oil."

He explained that "the investment sector is one of the important sectors in the economy, but the lack of a clear economic vision to attract investors and capital prevented the revitalization of this sector in Iraq."

Al-Ithawi stressed, "the need to combat financial and administrative corruption that is rampant in all parts of the state," pointing out that "the corrupt have money, weapons and other things that make them far from accountability."

ERBIL - The Iraqi federal government has proposed the establishment of a new oil company to be jointly managed with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to operate crude oil production as well as exports from the Kurdistan Region.

This comes as Erbil and Baghdad have already made some good progress in improving their bilateral ties, sparing no efforts to resolve the remaining disputes between the two sides.

Iraqi oil minister, Ihsan Abdul Jabbar, said that "positive understandings between the central government and the Kurdistan Region regarding the production and export of oil produced in the fields of the latter have been reached."

"The ongoing talks between Baghdad and Erbil show new visions and ideas for the region to manage this field."
