Projects to develop unemployment

It seems that some of our officials, especially those proposing country development projects, depend on "awe" of what they see of urban progress in the countries they visit, without looking at their results and implications, and whether they fit our reality or not, and therefore we find them trying to transfer experiences from countries that have been adopted Its planners and developers are a strategy based on the interest of the state and the people, not cosmetic or showiness.

There are many of these dazzling projects that have been proposed and are still being raised, and recently the discussion is going on on the Baghdad suspension train, which the Ministry of Planning says is 22 km long and consists of 14 stations in its first phase and has a capacity of 30,000 passengers per hour, and works for 16 hours a day. It will provide 10 thousand jobs.

These figures aroused my surprise and curiosity and pushed me to search for information about such projects in the countries of the world, only to find me in front of a huge amount of details that could not be found.

The first information I noticed is that countries have resorted to metro networks due to the lack of private and public transport means due to the huge numbers of passengers, and in Iraq we are facing a reverse crisis, as the means of transport of thousands and their drivers complain of their low incomes due to the large, medium and small buses.

Also, transportation projects, especially trains, are among the professions that need a small number of workers, and therefore we are facing a very limited number of workers and we throw thousands into the holocaust of unemployment, as the train needs one driver and an assistant perhaps, and let's assume that every station needs ten employees, and we will find maintenance and cleaning workshops and others With 220 employees, the total in both work hours will be 504 employees, including a driver and an assistant, and in stations and workshops. If the second phase of the project requires this number as well, the total total is only 1008 employees, so where will the remaining ten thousand employees, workers or earners work?

There is an important question that may have been overlooked by the enthusiasts of this project. Is the reality of electric energy in Iraq commensurate with what the train needs in terms of stable and continuous energy in order to operate? !,

As for the economic feasibility of this project, it will not be realized until at least 20 years later, as the cost of the project ranges between 2 to 3 billion dollars, according to the statements, and since the transportation fare currently approved inside Baghdad is 1000 dinars as a maximum, and let us assume that the train will operate at full capacity of 30 For a thousand passengers over the course of 16, the hypothetical annual revenue will not reach $ 150 million annually.

So, what is the use of this cosmetic project that will cost the state badly needed money and will not recover it after decades, and will double the unemployment crisis in the country? I think we need to think about the results of the projects that we are proposing before we are dazzled by their beauty and development.
