Yes Iraq - Baghdad

Refinitiv data showed that the Kuwaiti dinar declined against the US dollar in the futures market, ahead of the official announcement of the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Three-month contracts for the dollar against the dinar jumped by as much as 84 points today, nearing its peak in four months, according to Refinitiv data.

On Tuesday, the Amiri Diwan in Kuwait announced the death of the Emir of the country, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, aged 91 years.

The Emir of Kuwait was undergoing treatment in the United States, to complete medical treatment after surgery for an unspecified case he underwent in Kuwait.

On July 18, Kuwait announced the transfer of some of the powers of the Emir of the country to his crown prince, Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (83 years), after the prince was hospitalized.

Al-Sabah, in 2019, made a six-week medical trip in the United States, during which he canceled a meeting with the US President, Donald Trump, due to his health.

The Emir has ruled Kuwait since January 2006. He has pressed for the use of diplomacy to solve regional issues, such as the ongoing boycott of Qatar by four Arab countries, and has hosted major conferences to provide grants for conflict-torn countries such as Iraq and Syria.

After announcing the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on Tuesday, the reins of government will transfer according to the emirate's inheritance law to Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who held important leadership positions in the history of Kuwait.

Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was born on the twenty-fifth of June 1937 in Kuwait City, and he is the sixth son of the tenth ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who ruled the country between 1921 and 1950.  And Sheikh Nawwaf has 4 sons and a daughter, they are Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawwaf, Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawwaf, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nawwaf, Sheikh Salem Al-Nawwaf and Sheikha Sheikha Al-Nawwaf.

Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah assumed many important positions, starting his journey in political work in February 1962, when he assumed the position of Governor of Hawalli, where he managed to transform the governorate, which was a village, into a civilized, residential, and ongoing city full of commercial and economic activity, and assumed responsibility for the Hawalli Governorate for a period of time. 16 years old.

In March 1978, he took over the portfolio of the Ministry of Interior, succeeding Emir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who assumed the position of Crown Prince and head of the Council of Ministers at the beginning of the era of the late Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Then Sheikh Nawwaf assumed the position of Minister of Defense in January 1988, where he "developed work, both military and civilian, and worked to modernize and develop the Ministry of Defense camps and provide them with all modern weapons and mechanisms to fulfill its national duty to defend Kuwait and protect it from external dangers." He was also interested in sending missions to military industrialized countries to train in piloting military aircraft and all kinds of weapons, armor and cannons used by the Kuwaiti army. He was also keen to include in the arms purchase contracts clauses stipulating training and maintenance of Kuwaiti military on them, opening the way for Kuwaitis to join the military corps and giving them many privileges.

In April 1991, upon the formation of the first Kuwaiti government after the war of liberation of Kuwait and the return of legitimacy, Sheikh Nawwaf was assigned to the portfolio of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, where he made decisions to take care of widows, orphans and the elderly. In October 1994, he assumed the position of Deputy Chief of the National Guard, where he left clear imprints to rearrange and organize the National Guard and achieve harmony and balance between the soldier and the human being.

Over the course of 9 years, Sheikh Nawwaf made strenuous efforts to reach the highest levels and rates in similar security institutions in the most developed countries of the world, and he worked to develop the military system of the Guard and make it the right arm of the armed forces.

He laid the foundation for development plans in the National Guard that depend on several axes, the first of which is human development that is achieved, starting with a good selection of human resources, and the second is continuous serious training and educational attainment, whether in the combat military field or in the technical and administrative specialized areas, and the third is to raise the level of the individual, care for his health and raise his spirit. Moral. He also sent many members of the National Guard abroad on advanced military missions and courses, and worked to encourage Kuwaiti youth to join the National Guard.

On July 13, 2003, Sheikh Nawwaf returned to take over the portfolio of the Ministry of Interior, as he is considered "the spiritual father of the security men and the true founder of the Ministry of the Interior in its modern form and its various management," according to the Crown Prince Diwan website. On October 16, 2003, an Amiri decree was issued appointing Sheikh Nawwaf as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.  On February 7, 2006, the Emir of the State of Kuwait issued an Amiri order recommending Sheikh Nawwaf as Crown Prince, and on the twentieth of the same month, the National Assembly pledged allegiance to Sheikh Nawwaf as Crown Prince.

Kuwait's late ruler Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, an acclaimed diplomat and mediator, was laid to rest on Wednesday, shortly after his half-brother was sworn in as the new emir.

Sheikh Sabah, who ruled the oil-rich nation for 14 years, died on Tuesday after undergoing treatment in hospital in Minnesota from July.

A Kuwaiti government Airbus A340 carrying his remains from the United States landed in the capital, where roads were cleared to allow passage of a convoy to the Bilal bin Rabah Mosque for funeral prayers.

The new emir, 83-year-old Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah -- who was sworn in at the National Assembly earlier Wednesday -- was at the airport to receive the body along with other Kuwaiti officials, all wearing masks in line with anti-coronavirus measures.

The late emir's remains were then buried at the Sulaibikhat Cemetery, in a simple ceremony at the public facility, in keeping with tradition.
