Mubasher: The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mustafa Ghaleb Makhaif, held a video-contact meeting with the International Monetary Fund.

 

During the meeting, according to a statement by the Central Bank, topics related to the economic situation in Iraq were discussed, and the fund’s willingness and desire to help Iraq by providing technical support and advice, and coordinating financial and monetary policies and financial control plans.

The fund's team offered the congratulations of the fund’s executive director, Hazem Al-Beblawy, to the Governor of the Central Bank on the occasion of his assumption of the position.

And the Parliamentary Finance Committee in Iraq announced, in mid-June, that the Minister of Finance had begun negotiations with the International Monetary Fund to borrow $ 5 billion.

On August 19, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, discussed with the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, the possibility of concluding an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, to support the Iraqi economy and reduce its dependence on oil , by rehabilitating and making other sectors Competition for the oil sector in a way that can absorb unemployment in the country.

I recall when Shabibi was Governor, we were told that “financial stability” was necessary for an RV and financial stability meant Iraq needed to expand the sources of federal income other than oil. 

I’m loving this thread. I am definitely encouraged with the new PM, the new CBI Governor and the IMF’s agreement to help get Iraq on the track we need to get our money.
