The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed, on Tuesday, that it is taking a new mechanism to manage and improve the Iraqi currency, indicating that it decided to use the official signature on the banknote, and not to sign in the name, a matter that previously sparked widespread controversy in the country.

The bank’s media office said in a statement that Shafaq News Agency received a copy of, that “The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq,   Mustafa Ghaleb, chaired today, Tuesday, a meeting of the currency affairs committee in this bank in the presence of all members.”

The statement quoted Makhif as emphasizing "the importance of following the context of the official signature on the exported currency, and not using the signature with the name that was previously approved by the committee in a previous meeting."

This is his first chilling decision since he was appointed to his post last week.

The new governor indicated that "the committee discussed a number of issues and took a number of decisions that would contribute to raising and improving the level of currency management."

It is noteworthy that the Central Bank of Iraq issued in 2018 a banknote of one thousand five hundred two hundred and fifty dinars, and the name and signature of the governor were added to the design of the currencies.

Specialists have criticized that procedure. The economic expert, Salam Sumaisem, told Shafaq News at the time that the governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq Agency, committed a "major violation" by placing his name on the Iraqi currency in its new edition, adding that "changing the signature is not something easy for a central bank governor. This signature is approved in Countries of the world, especially in international banks, which are member states of the International Monetary Fund, "wondering," Is there any currency of a strong country in which a person's name is on it? Is the Iraqi dinar crushed to this degree until it is made in the name of a person?"

I’m not really getting this article.. I guess there is some big controversy about the old CBI gov putting his signature on some of the lower demons, but why?? What is the big deal? Our bills have signatures on them.. I guess I don’t understand number 1, what the big deal is and number two why it’s even worth printing in an article..

Here is an article from the CBI website dated Oct 7, 2018:

(Statement) The Central Bank issues a second edition of the denominations (250,500,1000,10000,25,000) dinars

(Statement) The Central Bank issues a second edition of the denominations (250,500,1000,10000,25,000) dinars

The Central Bank of Iraq issued its second edition of banknotes for the denominations (25000, 10,000, 1000, 500 and 250) dinars, stressing that the currently circulating banknotes of the above categories will continue to circulate with the new denominations without any intention of withdrawing them from circulation.

This bank shows that the variables on the above categories were as follows ....

Regarding the categories (25,000, 10,000, 500, 250) dinars, they included writing the name of the governor instead of signing him in the old version, in line with what is now followed in other countries, and the Hijri and Gregorian dates were modified to the two dates (1440 AH-2018 AD).

As for the denomination of (1000) dinars, the face of the banknote was changed, whereby the slogan "Inclusion of the Marshlands and Monuments of Southern Iraq on the World Heritage List" was placed instead of the image of the Islamic Dinar in the old design, based on a decision issued in this regard in addition to writing the name of the Governor also instead of his signature In the old version and amending the Hijri and Gregorian dates to the two dates (1440 AH-2018 CE).
