The Counter-Terrorism Service will be responsible for implementing the orders of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission (AFP)

Iraqi security sources said that a special force arrested a number of officials, including the former head of the Pension Authority, Ahmed al-Saadi, on Tuesday / Wednesday night.
Local media quoted the sources as saying that the force arrested Al-Saadi at his home in Baghdad, and transferred him to a security headquarters in Baghdad, in preparation for his presentation to the investigating judge on Wednesday. The sources indicated that other officials were arrested, indicating that their names will be announced at a later time.

The sources pointed out that the committee to investigate major corruption and exceptional crimes cases, which was formed by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi on the 27th of last month; It has received large corruption files, indicating that it will continue to implement the decisions issued against the accused, with the possibility that the campaign includes important figures, and it is likely that the next phase will witness accountability for a number of senior local officials (in the governorates).

The government has not issued any official confirmation or denial about reports that officials have been arrested on charges of corruption. However, an Iraqi government official confirmed to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that the government's campaign on corruption targets current and former officials who were removed from their positions earlier, explaining that broad measures will be taken by the government in this field, with the support of Najaf and several political forces, as well as the Presidency of the Republic. .

The spokesman for the Iraqi Prime Minister, Ahmed Mulla Talal, had confirmed during a press conference earlier Tuesday that the Counter-Terrorism Service would take over the task of implementing the Supreme Committee's orders regarding corruption files.

Al-Kazemi has previously formed a permanent committee to investigate corruption cases, headed by a high-ranking officer, and representatives of sensitive security agencies, such as the intelligence and national security services, participate in its membership, while the Counter-Terrorism Service is tasked with implementing judiciary decisions related to the committee's work.
Al-Kazemi authorized the Corruption Investigation Committee the right to request any priorities or information related to the cases it is looking into, from the ministries or institutions not associated with the ministries, and the Counter-Terrorism Service has been charged with the task of implementing decisions issued by investigating judges, or the courts specialized in matters pertaining to the investigation committee in corruption cases. according to the law.

Court summons, travel ban for Kirkuk governor for 'wasting public money'

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Governor of Kirkuk Rakan al-Jabouri has been summoned to court on charges of misuse of public funds and consequently issued with a travel ban, the Iraqi Integrity Commission announced on Tuesday.

The summons and travel ban were issued in relation to "wasting public money" in a project that involved "building of 25 schools in Kirkuk," a statement from the Commission read.

The provincial director of school buildings has also been served with the summons and travel ban, according to the statement.

Arrest warrants were issued to another 23 Kirkuk Governorate and General Directorate of Education employees in relation to the project, the statement added.

The school construction project was given to a "foreign" company, to be carried out for 57.9 billion dinars – close to $50 million.

The court's decrees came a month after the commission "revealed that the company implementing the project had tampered with the basic designs and reduced the number of schools from 25 to 18 and changed designs and spaces, contrary to the terms of contracts and without obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Planning."

Jabouri was made governor of Kirkuk province in December 2017. His appointment by then-prime minister Haider al-Abadi came two months after Najmaldin Karim was deposed from the role when Iraqi forces, assisted by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, known in Arabic as Hashd al-Shaabi) took over the city.

Jabouri, a Sunni Arab, has also been accused of undermining the position of Kurds in Kirkuk since he took office, firing tens of Kurdish officials from top posts in the city and replacing them with Arabs and Turkmen, and reviving the Baath era's notorious Arabization process. In December 2018, Iraq's Federal Court rescinded any decrees made by Jabouri that had authorized the appropriation of Kurdish-owned land.

Kazemi is going after the corrupt, he is draining the swamp and is the chosen one to turn Iraq around to a sovereign and prosperous nation. I agree with our brother Laid Back, I believe we are at the end of this ride as well, still some work to do, but, sooner is now a reality and later is closer then you think 😉

Keep the gears grinding Mr Kazemi, and let’s get this done 💪

With our president spreading his love all around the Middle East all the stars do seem to be lining up. All we can do is keep waiting, my bank account says hopefully not much longer 🙂

I think Al-Kazemi should list in the gazette every last one of these crooks names an under each thief's name include what their offense is. Some of the bigger fish go into detail what they stole an where they were last seen. I would let the Iraqi citizens help punish these thieves. I'm liking this guy, he's the real deal. Going down the list of the protesters demands, I'll be glad when he gets to the increasing the purchasing power of the Dinar part....

I hope Kzemi issues a warrant for Maliki just like Maliki issued for Al Shabibi when Al Shabibi was the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq. Maliki tried to turn the CBI over to the Iraqi Government so he could have complete control but it didn't happen. Things are getting very interesting! I wonder if Maliki intends to return to Iraq. He left for Iran right before this happened. Iran is not going out without a fight but Iraq is receiving international support from the US, France, Saudi Arabia, The UN etc, so hopefully Kezmi will win the election and things will get better!

I really hope so, because that would mean for the first time these accusations actually mean something!! Up until now Maliki has been untouchable, and all the years of accusations haven’t scared him a bit.
